Each morning's amazing breakfast was exceptional and my hosts Roland/Steve were very accommodating, If I was ever hungry, it would have been my own fault, but each morning's breakfast got me started in fine fashion! One morning my hosts allowed my sister to enjoy the breakfast with me, even though she was not a guest. The Inn is an oasis from the busy world and while I was staying there it allowed me to finish one book, and take in all the ambiance of a richly appointed Inn. The Portobello is ideally situated so that I could easily get to Utica, Herkimer, and the wonderful Little Falls Canal Days celebration during my stay, Driving a car is a delight in the Mohawk Valley! It was clean, the water hot, there was a TV and mini fridge in the room, free wifi, plenty of clean towels, and the service was incredible. We arrived later than anticipated and the host greeted us warmly. The staff was amazing and when I accidentally left my phone charger in the room, they mailed it to my home. I've stayed in a LOT of hotels and for one at a modest price, Inn Towne Motel can't be beat.

But if you're a weary traveler looking for an inexpensive place to have a hot shower and sleep for the night, you'll want something more name-brand. Trust me. The extra $10 you save by staying here is NOT WORTH IT. Not even for the free nightmares and hair left behind by the cleaning staff. Just driving up to this place gave me the urge to Yelp it, and that desire only got stronger the longer I stayed, which ended up not being very long because the smoke smell of the (non-smoking) room and the overdry air from the non self-regulating heater had me completely dried out within hours, the bed was scratchy, and I had the distinct feeling that the man in the room next to ours who bragged that he lives in this place for weeks at a time was hard at work packaging for transport either stolen goods or a body. Not interested in my belongings or my person being added to his inventory, I left six hours after I arrived, turning in my key to a silent, surly woman on my way out. Don't let this hotel happen to you. Go anywhere else. ANYWHERE ELSE. You won't regret it.

When I found their website, I was immediately attracted to the decor. I LOVE antiques! We booked our stay for the Tiffany Rose suite. Shortly after we booked our stay, we received an email from Barry. He asked if we were staying for anything inparticular (wedding, anniversary, etc.). He also asked if we had any dietary restrictions because he prepares breakfast every morning of your stay. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by both Barry and Denise. They gave us a tour of the Victorian and then showed us to our room. I was in awe from the moment we pulled in the driveway. They also gave us some ideas for places to eat and things to do. Now let me tell you about breakfast...all I can say is WOW! Our 1st morning we walked downstairs to the smell of bacon and piano music playing. We walked into the dining room to find 2 beautiful place settings for us, with juice, coffee and fresh fruit waiting. Denise came out and grabbed our plates, then brought them back out with the most delicious breakfast. We got to start our morning with a crustless quiche, hashbrowns, and "my dad's bacon", as Barry called it. So we got to start our morning, and every morning we were there, with full, happy bellies. It was a great start to each morning! Each morning was something different, but equally delicious. If I have my choice, I will skip hotels and stick with B&Bs. If you are traveling to the Herkimer/Cooperstown area and not traveling with children under 13, I highly recommend the Raindrops on Roses B&B. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Saturday and had the option of dining outside on the patio or inside. We opted for inside and were promptly sat at a window table. We had a great view of the lake and the patio. It was a perfect night watching the sun set over the water. (For anyone who finds restaurant proposals to be their thing, this is definitely worth a consideration). Our waitress was on top of her game noting the specials, recommendations and quick to answer our questions. Every special sounded delicious and it was hard to choose. Our meal was absolutely delicious. We ordered the spicy lobster pasta and the chicken francaise. Huge chunks of lobster, fresh pasta and a sauce perfectly spiced. The chicken was cooked perfectly. I was a bit surprised they did not serve bread with the entree but TBH we were both stuffed after finishing our meal. There was enough leftover pasta to box up for dinner the next night. After dinner we walked out to the water and checked out the boats. Ladies, be careful where you step on the dock. Seems like the geese like it here too! The back patio is huge, and has a dedicated bar. Attire was both dressy and casual and the clientele was a mix of young and old. While being more of an upscale restaurant it has a neighborhood vibe to it. I would 100% recommend dining here! I can't say much about the inn except that the building itself is beautiful. We sat outside, and something about the property and the view genuinely reminded me of sitting at the Corleone compound in The Godfather in the best possible way. It's a gorgeous place to have dinner right on the water. Service was, however, very slow, but they were also extremely busy and I want to make it clear that we didn't blame our waitress at all. She was excellent. She was friendly, attentive when she could be, and did a great job considering how busy everything was. The food was good, but a little inconsistent. My swordfish was slightly overcooked, and my friend's NY strip was as well. Dessert, however, was excellent. We had the chocolate mousse and coconut pie, and both were great. Our biggest disappointment was that they were out of both Heady Topper and Focal Banger despite having them listed on the menu. We understand those beers are difficult to keep in stock and tend to sell out, but their availability was actually one of the reasons we chose to come here for dinner. If they're regularly unavailable, it might make more sense to list them as a rotating or availability dependent offering rather than a standard menu item. Despite those issues, we still enjoyed ourselves. The beautiful setting, excellent waitress, desserts, and overall atmosphere made for a really nice evening. With a slightly better execution on the food and a more accurate beer list, this could easily have been a five star experience.

These AppleGreens are the convenient store of the East Coast, for if you get off the turnpike the toll will just bill your license plate. They are all inclusive for the area. Actually it's a great little store inside. Along the wayside, this is where the humans go for snacks and drinks, and the potty . The car parks outside at the gas pump station and gets its fuel. They are separate entities. It's wild, being from the West Coast . You feel like an outsider. "Being that outsider," we are going to just see what these little applegreens have to offer. The unique experience is different station to station too. On a road trip, I'm the individual that has to go potty every few hours. So we have to stop "a lot !" This particular roadtrip, we spent a lot of time in these road side shops. It was great . This is better than others. They have comfortable chairs and even places to sit for a while. The snacks are a local flavor. We actually found chocolate covered Oreos. We are in upper New York, and we still found trinkets with New York City badging for a souvenir. The experience at these little shops is quite different and unique compared to where we live. Time to get to living and enjoying life again. When you stop have fun doing it see how life is different from your ways.
