Apart from the check-in, we were very happy with our stay at the Salinas Hampton Inn. Apparently, the communication between housekeeping and the front desk was not happening; our room was anything but clean when we checked in. However, we were quickly given a new, very clean room and snacks, so we were fine. Accommodations were comfortable, with plenty of hot water and towels. The fabulous breakfast buffet that Hampton Inn is known for did *not* disappoint. Parking and Wi-Fi are also included in the room fee. Location is great; very near the Steinbeck Center and downton Salinas. Also, convenient for day trips to Monterey and the surrounding area.

WHY I WENT HERE: - business trip THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located on the corner of Work St and John St - located next door to Starbucks - surface lot parking and parking garage parking available THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - signage throughout informing patrons to NOT park next door or you'll be towed - indoor pool is next door to the gym - decently sized room and bathroom CUSTOMER SERVICE: - warm and welcoming - need to go to the front desk to obtain a parking pass to display on your dash if you drove a car in despite being able to check-in and check-out online/via app

I recently booked at Hampton Inn & Suites Salinas and had one of the worst hotel experiences ever. I called around 11:30 PM on July 10, 2025, before the cancellation deadline, because I had a sudden medical emergency and needed to cancel or adjust my reservation (#97812932). The person who answered told me no manager was on site and I'd have to wait until morning for them to decide if they'd even consider my request. How does a major brand like Hilton not have a manager available at night to help guests? The next day, the manager told me they needed a doctor's note to process my cancellation, which is completely inappropriate and feels like a violation of my medical privacy rights. No hotel should demand personal medical documents to cancel a room, especially when the cancellation was requested within policy. Because of their refusal to help, my stress escalated to a medical emergency. On top of everything, they still charged my Hilton Honors card $418.52 for a room that was never even used or prepared for us. I'm a Silver Honors member and have never been treated like this at other Hilton locations, including Anaheim where I often stay. The General Manager, Michelle Love, showed no empathy in email communications, ignoring the stress, discrimination, and health crisis this caused me. What was supposed to be a special birthday surprise for my wife turned into a nightmare. Reading other reviews, I now realize I'm not alone in experiencing poor treatment at this property. I regret not checking Yelp first. Please save yourself the stress and money - avoid this hotel. Hilton should be ashamed of how guests are treated here.

After a long drive from Whittier, California to Hearst Castle, we decided to stay the night in Salinas so we could visit Monterey the next day. We're so glad we chose Hampton Inn & Suites! From the moment we arrived, the two ladies at the front desk were incredibly personable, respectful, and welcoming--exactly what we needed after a long trip. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained, which made for a relaxing night's rest. In the morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. The area was spotless and everything was fresh and delicious. Overall, it was a great experience. We definitely recommend this location for anyone traveling through the area!

This hotel is very clean and comfy. Also has a Starbucks in the same lot. The breakfast (free) was good, serving all the hot usual items including eggs, potatoes, sausage, waffles, oatmeal.. also served the usual items like cereal, yogurt, toast, bagels patties etc...the staff are nice and helpful. This hotels does have a hot tub, pool, gym and on site laundry. The rooms are nice and have an artsy feel. Recommend.

Good place to stay. Nice breakfast! EV charger available for free. WiFi works ok. Location is good. Windows are available to open for vent.

What a blessing that the windows open and you can breathe fresh air!

Good hotel. Clean room. Good staff. Normal breakfast. The windows open and you can breathe fresh air.

Each pic gets a little closer. You can see the thermostat set back behind the backboard in the last pic.

This place is terrible. With the first room we had the keys didn't work. No big deal, we went back and got new cards. Entered our first room and it was hot. We spent a few minutes looking for the thermostat and found it hidden behind the desk. The desk backboard was literally pushed up to the thermostat covering it up. The front desk person didn't believe me until I showed them pictures. If there was a way to control the AC with a remote or tv, we weren't told how. We couldn't figure it out and the front desk person had no clue. We switched rooms. Gave us a room on the first floor by the exit door. I wasn't theilled about the extra noise, but whatever, we flew in and had a wedding to go to. We split for the afternoon and evening and got back in the room before 9pm. Got cleaned up, laid on the bed and tried turning on the tv. It didn't work. Of course not, figures. I called the front person and they tried walking me through the process of using two different remotes to get the tv to work. I told her it wasn't connecting to the internet as per the error messages I was getting. That must have reminded the front desk person about something, because then she told me our room doesn't get the apps on the tv. Awesome! The property isn't bad, definitely not good, but not gross, but it surely is mismanaged. What a waste of my time and money... Pics are of the hidden thermostat. I'll assume it's probably controllable by a remote and the tv, but if it was, the front desk had no clue. If they knew about it, I'll just assume the remote or tv internet wouldn't have worked anyway. What a joke, total clown show.

Stayed here the other night and it was a decent experience. Booked direct and was able to select my room 24-48 hours prior to arrival, as well as select my time of arrival. Upon arrival, the front desk associate informed me that my selected room wasn't ready yet, but assured me that it would be ready within the next 30 minutes and that she would call when it was. Alternate rooms were "unavailable" as the hotel was "full booked" for the evening... Came back again after 4 hours to the same front desk associate, this time with a mask and name tag and my room was "ready," although she was "too busy" to call me when the room was ready... The hotel is in fantastic condition. There were Lysol wipes by the front desk along with coffee and hot water. The room itself was also in fantastic condition with the main entry and bathroom lighting able to be controlled via the TV and perhaps the Hilton app. The bathroom was gigantic with decent water pressure and typical Hampton Inn amenities. Wifi was complimentary and worked flawlessly. The TV had a good selection of premium channels including a Netflix icon. The window HVAC was a combo heat/AC unit that was surprisingly quiet. The biggest challenge of the evening was the extremely basic Bonnell inter-linked coil mattress. Padding was extremely minimal and moving on one side of the mattress meant that the entire mattress was bouncing along for the ride! #poorCarrot Sheets and pillowcases looked clean, same with towels that were in decent shape. To my surprise, the parking lot merely 1/3 full when waking up first thing in the morning. There were merely a few people at breakfast which featured decent breakfast sausages, pre-made scrambled eggs, and continuously steamed breakfast potatoes. There was also a waffle maker, some muffins, along with a juice machine. There is a Starbucks in the same FREE parking lot along with gated parking underneath the building.

The biggest issue we had here was with our bathroom sink. At first it started with the water taking a long time to go down and eventually started backing up. One of the outlets in our room was defective and every time we tried to plug a cord in the cord would fall out. In the gym the cup holder was empty as well as the wipe container. There was a sign at front desk saying to remove valuables from your vehicle. People should do that regardless, but I've never seen that warning at a hotel. The area is very sketch and I would discourage people from staying in Salinas especially if you're not familiar with the area. Monterey is way better. Both elevators were extremely slow and one of them broke during our stay. After mentioning all this to the manager they gave us points, but refused to give us a partial refund.

The Hampton Inn is the same as most. The problem here is the Front Desk. Very Rude, he needs training!!!

I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience needs to be shared…read more I had a prepaid reservation at Best Western Salinas Monterey Hotel for myself and my two young children. We had already driven in from Bakersfield earlier that day to attend a funeral and spent several hours there before going to check in. At the front desk, I was told there would be a $40 additional person fee. I questioned it to better understand the policy, and was told that if I didn't accept it, my reservation would be canceled and I would still be responsible for the full prepaid amount. As the conversation continued, the explanation kept changing. I was told the room could only accommodate two people regardless of age, then that it was corporate policy, and later that it was related to fire safety and California law. The room included a sofa bed and had even been described as an upgrade, which made the situation even more confusing. At that point, I agreed to pay the additional fee just so my children and I could stay and deal with the rest later through corporate. Despite that, the proprietor still refused to honor the reservation. While I was still standing in the lobby with my children and on the phone with customer service trying to resolve the situation, the proprietor canceled my reservation at the front desk. My seven-year-old daughter became very upset and started crying, and there was no empathy or effort to help resolve the situation. We were left without accommodations and had to drive three hours back to Bakersfield that evening, getting home close to 11 PM after an already long and emotional day. The drive included long stretches with limited services, which made it even more difficult traveling with kids. This wasn't just an inconvenience -- it was how it was handled. The situation could have been resolved, especially since I was willing to pay the fee, but instead it escalated unnecessarily. Very disappointing experience.

The front desk explained that they had breakfast available from 7-10am, a pool and vending machines. Parking was easily accessible. Additional parking available as well. The room was tidy. There is a microwave and fridge available. Per my Mom, the bed was a little hard and they didn't clean behind the sink area. Besides that, it was a decent hotel. The staff were exceptionally nice and happy to help. This morning our breakfast table was a little off set and the employee helped us adjust it. Also, we forgot our room key and the housekeeper opened the door for us. In n Out, McDonald's and AmPm are within walking distance.

It was spacious and comfortable. As others have noted, the stairs are a bit steep but we had no issues with it. The downside of the property is that it feels quite impersonal. You check in like you would at an AirBnB rental. There is ostensibly an innkeeper on site but we never met (nor needed) them. There were also some difficulties getting our reservation payment process finalized. Even though we reserved via Booking.com, the property uses their own system and the information did not coordinate well. It took multiple messages back and forth with a remote service center before things got squared away. Knowing what i know now, I would just book direct if the rates aligned. BOTTOM LINE: A nice choice at a memorable but slightly quirky property. We would stay here again.

Upon arrival, the front desk associate, Alma, was on a phone call assisting another customer with detailed questions about previous stays, including requests for emailed statements. While I understand the need to assist guests thoroughly, the call appeared likely to take an extended amount of time. During this period, I waited approximately 20 minutes, along with three other guests who arrived after me. What made the situation more disappointing was the lack of acknowledgment. At no point did Alma pause to let us know she would be with us shortly or offer any kind of reassurance. I did ask if there was anyone else available to assist, and she replied that there was not, then continued the call without attempting to address the waiting guests. At one point, another individual approached the desk and was given a room key without any visible verification ( seemed like it was her bf) which raised some concerns. When it was finally my turn, the interaction felt rushed and came across as unfriendly. Overall, the check-in process left a negative first impression and impacted the start of my stay. I believe better customer service practices such as briefly acknowledging waiting guests or placing lengthy calls on hold when appropriate, would greatly improve the experience for everyone.
