Hotel issues Not a great area. Front door difficulty getting in the office. Elevator only available if turned on. No light cover in bathroom Dirty vent & switches. Prior persons dirty cup left in the room with liquid. Floor was a bit sticky Bathroom pipes & holders rusty. Walls are super thin. You can hear other alarms going off. You can hear all street noise and neighbors talking at 3 in the morning. Smoke alarm disassembled and never replaced. Never Again

How did it become acceptable to have a broken shower curtain and say, "meh, good 'nuff?!"

I'm thoroughly disappointed in myself for booking this place. I started documenting the problems experienced here in sentence form and started to realize that it exceeded 3 pain points. So far, numbered in no particular order, (because they range from simply annoying to discarded flesh gross,) here is my list of problems: 1) How did it become acceptable to have a broken shower curtain and say, "meh, good 'nuff?!" 2) Also, a broken heater... IN WINTER! I did not sign up to experience the last season of Game of Thrones. 3) Someone else's hair strands extending from the hand towels made available. Always good to know that HoJo likes to get us in touch with previous guests. 4)Dead Earwig chilling in the corner. 5) "Clean Remote" has what looks like 'used human' taped to the front sensor. 6) Pillow has a boot print on it. Hope that cat in construction gear got the laser on the ceiling that was plaguing them all these years. These discoveries were made upon our initial inspection upon entering room 206. All this suffering because the nicer hotels in Monterey/Carmel that I preferred required a minimum of a 2-night stay and did not offer a refrigerator. I'll have to search harder next time. Or start my own franchise. Positives so far is that they have an artsy mirror and a 2-part painting. Both items in every room, however, so not as unique as once thought. Just parent company Wyndham trying to add some flair and character into their Motel 6 style rooms and hope patrons don't notice.

Its places like these make you want to hope for a 0-star rating availability on Yelp. Before someone says you get what you paid for, this place isn't cheap. My only reason for booking this was because there was literally nothing else available and this was over $200 for a queen room too. The room was damp, things were visibly dirty. It was so difficult for me to spend the night here. I kept waking up thinking I am contracting some infection while I sleep. I would suggest trying really hard to get something else before you absolutely have to book here.

The shower!! With someone's eyelash! Black mold & absolute filth

Do yourself a favor... Stay somewhere else this hotel should honestly be closed down for safety. It reeked of questionable odors, the surfaces of every item were filthy & the last straw was the black mold & absolute neglect to the bathroom... I'm just speechless. Manager was kind but the establishment is severely run down & claims to be "under construction"

    This was the bed skirt

They have rude CHILDREN who work the front desk, they charged me two nights when I was only checked in my room for 3 hours but was only in my room less then a hour and half after noticing all the details of how dirty it was and taken pictures I went to the office no adult was available the child said I was checked in for to long for them to give me a refund and they was to "booked" to change my room hmm ok with only 5 cars in the whole drive way oooook so I went back to my room packed my stuff and said I wanna just cancel it the CHILD took my keys didn't give no receipt or anything and continued to charge me for both nights I called the next day same child said no manager or adult was available and said she didn't know when they would be back as I start telling her the problem she told me to call back in a hour and hung up on me . I called the next day spoke to a women who claimed to be the manager I started to tell her about the issue and it's quite funny every time I mention I have pictures they quick to rush you off the phone so she said she will give me a refund for a day but not both and I'm like I never stayed there that's b.s but what ever fine then she said she needs to speak to her manager about the refund and will call me back it's been 3 days haven't got a call or email, or a refund highly recommend not staying here way over charged for the quality of the room will be posting pics

I needed a room for the night to get some rest before I continued my trip home. I usually use booking.com to book my rooms and the rating this place had on their wasn't bad at all. Upon looking on Yelp and reading nothing but bad reviews, I had a feeling that maybe I made a bad choice. I'm here to say, DONT pay attention to the Yelp comments this place has been remodeled, and the rooms are clean, smell good, and the customer service was good. Depending on which side your on you can hear a little noise during the day, but I was in room #105 and didn't have a problem at all.

If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. They do not clean at all for the next guest, the carpet was very wet when I first walked in, there was mold on almost every wall, the bathroom is filthy, the sheets were dirty and had someone's hair still in it, and to top it all off I found not 1 but 2 used condoms on the floor. I went and talked to the front desk and the man didn't really want to take responsibility for the issue and mostly stayed quiet while I explained the situation. He said the floors were cleaned, but that was obviously not true. I asked for a new room and was eventually given one. No apology was given. I walked into the new room with low expectations and sure enough beer bottle caps on the floor. Proving once again, they do not clean here. I could keep going about how filthy this place is but I'm sure you get the point. I would never stay here willingly, and the only reason I am here is because I carpooled with my boss who chose and paid for the room. I know to stay away from places like this.

The last two nights of our business trip we stayed here. The hotel staff was absolutely fantastic. No problem with room. It was clean, looked recently remodeled. Bed was great, 4 pillows, work table and TV. Also had a microwave, coffee machine and mini fridge. Bathroom sinks (dual) , tub/shower combo (soap, shampoo, conditioner & lotion provided). Breakfast offered waffles, cereal, yogurt breads and muffins. Coffee machine with several selections. Fast and free breakfast. Only issue is they don't open until 6:30pm, 6am would have been ideal, since we had to be on our job site by 7am. Room 214 is left side of property. Definitely can here street noise. If your a lite sleeper, wear ear plugs. We will be back for the next 2 weeks, we will be booking here. Close to restaurants and movie theater.

Doesn't even deserve a 1-star review. EXTREMELY rude staff and hotel manager. I kindly asked for a refund or partial refund, or quite frankly anything after realizing I did not feel comfortable leaving our Porsche Boxter outside in a parking lot with NO OTHER LUXURY CARS.. not to mention there was a completely smashed Honda Civic also parked in that lot with several white trucks. Drove right off the property after this rude interaction, where the staff checking us in was literally talking me down with his hand on his hips while making weird facial expressions. This review would not be necessary if both the staff that night and the hotel manager were kind and understanding, despite whether or not a refund was applicable. Corporate customer service equally sucks and got me nowhere. Forget the refund at this point, what happened to good customer service?? How hard is it to talk to someone with respect? I am truly astonished. Needless to say, Wyndham Hotels and Affiliates will never get my business again. If you're reading this please be advised not to book a stay here if you have an expensive car. Just drive up the street to the Hampton Inn and Suites next to the Starbucks where they have an incredibly friendly staff (Gary the Hotel Manager was a delight). They also have free breakfast, more amenities, AND GATED UNDERGROUND PARKING only accessible with a room key. It was only $30 more than what I paid at this terrible place. *Please note this review isn't about the refund BUT lack of excellent customer service and care. *I have attached the distasteful email sent to me by the manager below.

    Scuffs and falling apart chair

By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! Got sent here for a work trip and barely stayed in the room because it was so bad! First off it started when checking in because I got a weird feeling then. I've never seen a front desk employee wearing a tee shirt, jeans, and flip flops. The hotel clearly states it's a none smoking hotel but as soon a I opened the door to my room I got hit with cigarettes. So I went back to the front desk to let him know and so I don't get the service charge for smoking. He then proceeded to come knock on my door and upon opening it he came in and sprayed a whole bottle of Febreeze which made the room 10x worse because those two scents don't blend together well. After he left I walked around the room and noticed how dirty it was! It had boogers on the walls, dirty sheets, scuffs all over the walls, and a chair falling apart! The place was so bad I didn't even end up staying their the second night! Definitely seems like some sketchy stuff is going on there too because different people were in and out of the same room multiple times a day!

    Missing smoke detector

Terrible room, do not stay here if you can help it. I checked out a day early and was charged for the entire stay. The manager claims that it is because of the cancellation policy of 72 hours before check in. I checked in on time and stayed two nights. Checked out 1 day early. Room did not have a smoke alarm. When I asked for one to be installed I was ignored. I have submitted a complaint to Wyndham Corporate and my credit card company. I also submitted a fire code violation complaint to the Salinas Code enforcement office.

Hope you don't have mobility issues and need to leave your room at night.

Skipping the hyperbole generally inherent to 1-star reviews and getting straight to facts. 1) we show up to check in at 6:30pm and the front desk attendant tells us he has to see if housekeeping has finished cleaning our room. At 6:30pm... 2) we get to our room and the keys don't work in the locks. There's another party who has just checked in with the same issue. There is no resolution; just "keep trying it" and "try pulling the handle up instead of down". Eventually it works. 3) once inside the room, we realize the walls are paper thin as the Banda music that was loud outside is nearly as audible inside and continued until 9:30pm. There's also a screaming baby in the next room. 4) the front desk attendant calls us after 8:30pm to ask "the spelling" on our party name. We booked the reservation through a third party who transmitted the info; he just forgot which party he assigned to which room because of how disorganized he was on the key issue. 5) the toilet broke in the middle of the night. There are no other restrooms to use because the lobby is closed from 10:30pm to 6:30am. 6) we stood around for 10 minutes to wait for someone to check us out. We rang the various "ring for service" bells and eventually had to call the main hotel number to get anyone to show up. Sure, the rooms are clean and smell good (unless your toilet is backed up) and are remodeled or whatever. Does that matter if you can't get into your room at 6:30pm, can't sleep because of noise, can't use the bathroom, the staff forgets where they put you, and there is nobody to be found when you try to check out?

The common areas look finished but it was hard to tell with my room as certain aspects like the bathroom show age. Plenty of up front parking and no parking fee! Luggage carts (although they all have flat tires) and two elevators made it easy to unload my vehicle and get to the room. The bedroom was very large, and the bathroom was roomy. There are not enough lights in the bedroom area and it was difficult to even unpack. The mattress was cheap and awful, hard as a rock. The standard low flow shower head turned a ten minute shower into a 20 minute shower. Housekeeping knocked on my door an hour before checkout but didn't speak any English so I have no idea what she wanted. The counter staff were friendly. Overall this Hampton Inn is average although I would not stay here again due to the uncomfortable mattresses.

I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience needs to be shared…read more I had a prepaid reservation at Best Western Salinas Monterey Hotel for myself and my two young children. We had already driven in from Bakersfield earlier that day to attend a funeral and spent several hours there before going to check in. At the front desk, I was told there would be a $40 additional person fee. I questioned it to better understand the policy, and was told that if I didn't accept it, my reservation would be canceled and I would still be responsible for the full prepaid amount. As the conversation continued, the explanation kept changing. I was told the room could only accommodate two people regardless of age, then that it was corporate policy, and later that it was related to fire safety and California law. The room included a sofa bed and had even been described as an upgrade, which made the situation even more confusing. At that point, I agreed to pay the additional fee just so my children and I could stay and deal with the rest later through corporate. Despite that, the proprietor still refused to honor the reservation. While I was still standing in the lobby with my children and on the phone with customer service trying to resolve the situation, the proprietor canceled my reservation at the front desk. My seven-year-old daughter became very upset and started crying, and there was no empathy or effort to help resolve the situation. We were left without accommodations and had to drive three hours back to Bakersfield that evening, getting home close to 11 PM after an already long and emotional day. The drive included long stretches with limited services, which made it even more difficult traveling with kids. This wasn't just an inconvenience -- it was how it was handled. The situation could have been resolved, especially since I was willing to pay the fee, but instead it escalated unnecessarily. Very disappointing experience.

Upon arrival, the front desk associate, Alma, was on a phone call assisting another customer with detailed questions about previous stays, including requests for emailed statements. While I understand the need to assist guests thoroughly, the call appeared likely to take an extended amount of time. During this period, I waited approximately 20 minutes, along with three other guests who arrived after me. What made the situation more disappointing was the lack of acknowledgment. At no point did Alma pause to let us know she would be with us shortly or offer any kind of reassurance. I did ask if there was anyone else available to assist, and she replied that there was not, then continued the call without attempting to address the waiting guests. At one point, another individual approached the desk and was given a room key without any visible verification ( seemed like it was her bf) which raised some concerns. When it was finally my turn, the interaction felt rushed and came across as unfriendly. Overall, the check-in process left a negative first impression and impacted the start of my stay. I believe better customer service practices such as briefly acknowledging waiting guests or placing lengthy calls on hold when appropriate, would greatly improve the experience for everyone.
