The Hampton Coliseum was a great place to host the Phish March 2009 reunion shows. Though MSG would have been more convenient for many (and held more people), the sound quality was outstanding. Security was pretty lax all over. This meant a chaotic scene trying to get in, especially the first night and seemingly an over-capacity audience inside. But it also created a laid-back character and I saw the stage security bat balloons back into the audience rather than pop them as they do at some venues. High marks overall, but I did not venture too far away from my little patch of stairwell to investigate the food or beer options. The music was all I needed. read more

Came to see Pearl Jam couple of weeks back, great experience overall! Pros: The food is cheap compared to other venues and the staff friendly. The bathrooms were ok. Cons: Sticky floors and crazy lines even for the men's bathrooms, I headed to the lower levels for less crowded ones. The acoustics of the place aren't that great for a concert so if you're an audiophile, it'll drive you nuts. read more

I saw my first concert alone at Hampton Coliseum--meaning without my parents. My parents were young and hip and they took me to concerts as a kid, but this was the first one I went to with just me and a teenage friend. It was Aha. As in "Take on Me." Yes, feel free to snicker amongst yourselves. I also saw Public Enemy there. Are you still snickering? I thought not. Anyway...Hampton Coliseum used to be the shizz-nit as far as big concerts around here before the VB Amphitheater stole some of their thunder. Not so much anymore unless you count Phish or Disney on Ice or the Hampton Jazz Festival or the Monster Truck Rally, none of which excite me very much. But still, it's a cool place to see a show or an event. And I love when they have the cheesy multicolored lights on it at Christmas time. read more

The highlights of my coliseum visits stem mostly from my childhood. I saw silly 80s acts like Debbie Gibson, New Kids on the Block and Bryan Adams to name an embarrassing few. It is truly hard to critique the Hampton Jazz Festival 50th. It was our first time seeing Kem, Jill Scott, O'Jays, (artist we really wanted to see) in person. My wife and I attended 2 separate nights and the sound was horrible both nights. Therefore, we could not truly understand the words as artist and host spoke throughout the 2 days we attended. This made the experience non enjoyable and very uninterested in attending any future shows in Hampton Coliseum as we drove 200+ miles to attend. Definitely do not intend to spend $366 here again...this is MY experience. read more

Carrie Underwood was amazing, but the sound quality is HORRID inside this venue. I am not sure who was responsible for the sound, but it was like listening to an AM radio station. Lots of static and not clear one bit. Carrie is an amazing performer and its no reflection on her, but this venue needs some updating. read more

Attended the 51st Hampton Jazz Festival and was happy to attend. The first two nights were great with Lakeside, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Avery Sunshine, Jazmine Sullivan, Charlie Wilson, Gregory Porter, Boyz II Men, and local group Kustom Made. The last night had Confunkshun, who were very good. There was also Lalah Hathaway and Xscape3, who were terrible. Kenny G was the highlight for Sunday night and NEVER disappoints. Gregory Porter was excellent. About 1/2 of the people left before Kenny G came on because they were bored. read more

I just attended a Valentine's Day concert. Parking is free, but the entrance to get to it was a little confusing. It would've helped for them to have more signs pointing to where parking is. The coliseum itself is a good size. We sat in the floor section (Section C, Row 13). We had a good view and the sound was great. My only complaint is how they crammed way too many seats together on the floor. I was uncomfortably close to the person on one side of me (other side was my boyfriend)...his arms were literally on top of me and as much as I wanted to move, the seats were so close I didn't want to inconvenience anyone else. If I ever attend an event in the future I may try to get the first row of the seats higher up. They appeared to be a lot more spacious. read more

Saw two Monster Jam shows here. The place is still holding its own after all the years. Ticketmaster pricing is a rip off at best. $5 kids tickets went to $12 once all the "fees" were added. We paid at the box office and saved all of that. Worth the drive in my opinion. Exiting the parking lot afterwards was slow but steady. read more

I wish this venue did what it was built for specifically and actually had concerts regularly like the old days. Instead, now there are only 2-3 major shows a year jammed in between the never ending circus acts and monster trucks. This place had bands like the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin coming all the time up until the mid 2000's. It's the only large scale concert venue in Hampton, and now to see any decent live music you have to go to Virginia Beach or Portsmouth which is a nightmare, especially if you're not able to travel easily like myself. Hampton Coliseum, please bring back the music both new and "old"!!!!! Heart, Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam (that was a treat this year!), Van Halen,, they're all still touring right now and I guarantee you they'd sell out or come very close. Many others share my opinion and wish to see more music here instead of in VA Beach. read more

I remember my first concert at age 13. My best buddies (to this very day) won three tickets to the Pantera and Anthrax (yes, even back in the day I was hard-core, homie!). It was at the Hampton Coliseum. And maybe that's why, to this day, I still love the Hampton Coliseum. Before the Virginia Beach Amphitheater and before the Norva, the Hampton Coliseum was the venue of venues, the only place to find stadium sized entertainment. Even though I wasn't a Pantera and Anthrax fan, that first concert--complete with a mosh pit on the huge floor of the coliseum--completely rocked! The acoustics were nice and there was plenty of space to get crazy. read more

This venue is very unique! Some perks include free parking, easy to access off the highway, plenty of bathrooms and space. The show I saw was GA, which made my experience much better. When the crowd by the stage got to crowded or too hot it was easy to slip back a bit. The venue is small enough that all the seats have a great view and the floor has a lot of space. The staff was very helpful and relaxed. Certainly will be back! read more

Saw Basslights here and have to say out of the dozens and dozens of venues I've been to over the years the sound quality in this place was unbelievable. I came here for Kiss Alive 35 and twice for Basslights. I am truly sad to learn that Basslights won't be returning to the colosseum, however all of my visits have been pleasant ones. I was quite pleased with the ease of mobility throughout the venue and the availability of microbrews on tap. Upon entry there are smoking sections available on the second floor, however they are almost unbearable in the winter season. My only real complaint is the steady additions to restrictions for events; the last Basslights banned LED gloves for no commonly understood purpose. 8/10 would go back again! read more

Venue is decent but the seats are absolutely not for women with a voluptuous rear end lol! I like the acoustics and the location is really easy and parking is a breeze. They absolutely need to upgrade when compared to more modern venues up north. read more

This review is explicitly for Monster Jam. I really had a great time! It is definitely worth the ticket price. The only thing I can suggest is to BRING YOUR OWN HEARING PROTECTION! The line to get in was less of a wait than the hearing protection line. The concession stands sold three different hearing pro: $25 nice over ear muffs, $15 monster jam ear muffs, and $2 ear foamies. I was so glad that I got the ear foamies because they work just as good if you put it in your ear correctly. The monster trucks are unbelievably loud! The children that had cheap parents and didn't buy hearing pro for them were so miserable. Other than that, the event is really cool! I enjoyed the sweet jumps and the half time show where a girl was shot out of a cannon. All the food available is regular concession food, I'm not going to harp on any of it. Normal cheap fries and chicken tenders or burgers and hotdogs. It's a great time with the family and you should definitely make time to go! read more

Venue has great sound and allows you to see the stage from every seat. The staff is very friendly and does not cause more trouble than necessary. It is located right off the highway making it very easily accessible. Food and beverages are not overly priced. I always have a good time when I'm there and look forward to my next visit. read more

I had a terrible experience dealing with the Coliseum but to their credit they did try to make it better, after much anguish I must say. I paid cash, $270, for tickets and the show was subsequently cancelled, no notice was provided to me so when my child (2yrs old) & I showed up, he was instantly disappointed. Crying and everything. The Coliseum was completely unsympathetic to my request for a complimentary seat for their next child-friendly show, I was willing to pay for my own admission but I wanted something for the disappointed 2yr old who showed up in his super hero costume and didn't get to see the show. They eventually offered one complimentary child ticket for our trouble but I will never patronize the Coliseum ever again. read more

Went to see cirque du soleil on Sunday, 11/16. Have not been in this venue for last 5 years. In a nut shell....the seating sux! It is like being inside "coach class" aboard some cheesy airline! VERY, VERY, UNCOMFORTABLE. When the hell is the owner of this venue going to invest a few bucks to allow folks to have some comfort? This building is approaching 50 years old and very little has been done to the interior to make it more convenient and comfortable for the patrons. I honestly hate to spend good money to go here to enjoy a show....it is downright humiliating! Get off your asses, stop counting all the profits and fix this problem, for god's sake. read more

I saw The Black Eyed Peas here. It was a great concert. The arena is fine. It was really easy to arrive, park, enter, and depart. The facility is cool looking...like the other reviews say, like a spaceship. I would definitely return here if another performer I enjoyed was going to play here. read more

I went to the coliseum to watch a WWE event. The show was great but I found the rest lacking in some areas. The staff seemed annoyed when customers asked them for help to find their seats. They need to keep in mind that the customers are the reason that they have a job so they might want to extend a little more friendly customer service., Also I found that the food and the souvenirs were running out early. For events this huge they might want to prepare better in the future. read more
