Very accommodating venue. I attended this venue 5.2026 for my son's graduation from Hampton University. It was perfect for the large crowd of attendees. The free parking was certainly appreciated. Came here for one show in November 2009 and one in June 2010. Both were great. The building is big and has a distinct shape and structure to it. I used to also visit the fair/amusement park they used to have in the parking lot many years back. Until something nonsensical and idiotic happened that rendered it permanently discontinued. We decided to grab tickets to the "We Them Ones" Comedy Tour for Saturday night. The show started at 8pm but we arrived around 7:30pm. The parking lot across the street was being patrolled by police and they were also guiding us where to park, which was helpful. Even though there was a large crowd of people all walking in at the same time, getting into the Coliseum was very easy. Once we walked through the detector and had our tickets scanned, we were able to walk right inside to our seats. There were some lines for drinks and snacks but since we ate previously, we didn't grab anything. We purchased Floor Seats (Row 30) but unfortunately, the seats were the foldable, metal kind and were very small. By the time everyone got to their seat, it felt like we were sitting on top of each other, they were also quite uncomfortable. The show was great though! Mike Epps was the headliner but Mojo Brooks, Chico Bean, Karlous Miller and DC Young Fly were some of the comedians that also performed as well. We definitely had some good laughs. Leaving from the parking lot was difficult because everyone was trying to leave at the same time. It would've been nice if they had someone outside patrolling the parking lots after the show as well. It took us quite some time to actually get to the main road. Outside of that, we had a great time and we'd definitely return. read more

Took the family to a Monster Truck Jam, and it was a fun experience for all! Parking was very easy, we parked in the grass at no cost, and walked right up to the entrance which wasn't very far at all, where they look throughout your bags, and have you walk through metal detectors. I noticed they won't let you bring in any sort of water bottle or beverage, so people were having to toss them or run them back to their car. After you have your phones out to have them scanned for your ticket and that was very easy as well. We walked into the main space and there were lots of merchandise stations, as well as food concessions, and beverages areas. We got one can of beer and one bottle of water and it was $20. Beer $15, water $5. So be prepared to pay some money for food and drinks which is expected. The show was so much fun, and the littles as well as adults all had a blast watching the monster trucks put on a great show!!! We will do this again. The restrooms are crowded and lines are very long and bathrooms are clearly not going to be the cleanest. So be prepared for that, and don't wait too the last second to use the restrooms cause the wait is extensive. The Hampton Coliseum is large and beautiful from the outside and the inside is as clean as it could be with loads of people constantly coming in and out having large shows! read more

Went to the Hampton Coliseum for a Monster Jam Event and was pleasantly surprised at how streamlined the process of entering was! First pro was free parking! The parking lot is directly in front of the Coliseum and was a very short walk to the doors. It was free to park at my event and there were plenty of staff on site to direct traffic. Second pro, was the security! They were fast and efficient getting us through the metal detectors and checking bags. Finally the third pro, was seating. The seats were not too uncomfortable and each one offered a great view! I did not order any food so I can't speak on that but they did have a variety of hot/cold options for sale including popcorn, chicken tenders and snowcones. Overall the experience was pretty great for a large scale function! The only thing is the bathroom lines are long so make sure to go early. But I'd definitely reccomend the Hampton Coliseum if you're looking to go to an event. read more

If you haven't checked out the Hampton holiday winter walk, you really need to get down there and see it. They did a great job with the lighting. There was even a free game with prizes. I won a jingle bell wristlet! So many photo ops, and I got a free gingerbread house kit (cardboard & stickers). There is Christmas music playing throughout the walk-through. It is a very family friendly event. Families and couples walking through, smiling and giggling and taking pictures. They even have Christmas carolers when you first arrive, in costume, they are wonderful! The workers are very friendly and full of Christmas spirit! Hours of operation are from 5 to 8. The 1 star is for the production. We came for a 2-night concert. For starters, they don't sell liquor. Fine. But at least provide some decent wine/beer alternatives (Bud Light and Barefoot are available ) I've never seen such a sh*tty array of available beverages. Security is strict, fine. Bathrooms are pretty mediocre with long lines (for women). But worst of all! The temperature is freezing - do not attempt to come in a crop top like I did with no jacket/sweater. You will freeze. I would reconsider coming all this way for an artist you enjoy. Check out their schedule and see if they're playing elsewhere or somewhere less tedious/cold/where they actually sell drinks. read more

We saw Disney on Ice. The show started at 7 and we arrived around 6:30. There were plenty of parking attendants to show you how to get in so there was mi ital traffic. It was very organized so there were 2 lanes to get into the venue which was nice and allowed people to come in from different directions. The bathrooms were decently cleaned and they had stocked soap and paper towels (hey, sometimes being big events they are not prepared so it was nice). When entering the show the had staff waiting to show you directly to your seat so no worry of being lost. We purchased Cotton Candy that must have had gold hidden inside because IT WAS 15 DOLLARS! There was another one with a crown that was 20!!! Totally insane... but expected. Parking was very organized as well when we left and there was minimal traffic. I would definitely eat before hand (as we did) because food prices are astronomical. Ticket fees are crazy, it was $13 for the ticket but with fees the tickets were over $24 each. This was definitely a once in a blue moon thing because of the insane price hike. read more

Awful Customer service!! I asked for a pretzel and it came with no salt. I hate to be the person who complains but I had to. I said " I'd hate to be that person but I can I get this with salt". The lady without saying a word snatched the pretzel out of my hand and threw it at the wall. She got a new pretzel, quickly squirted it with water and shoved it in some salt. I have 3 stars because the parking was horrible they had us driving through hotel parking lots and no directions clearly given as to where to park. The sound system is not the best. Went to see Maxwell, Joe and Anthony Hamilton. Great concert! Sound and visuals were great and we were able to purchase floor seats to which we enjoyed that experience. I have two recommendations for a better experience. More food vendors as the lines were very long. Also, I did not like the seating arrangement. My boyfriend and I sat at the end and there was only one way out on the row so whenever anyone needed to get out, everyone on the row would have to step out in the aisle. Seating is very packed and you are sitting shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers. We are still in a pandemic so I wish that they would keep that in consideration. I also appreciate how seamless the traffic/parking is with a large amount of people. Very strategic. read more

The family came here for Monster Trucks on January of 2019. The coliseum itself is a bit aged and could stand for some TLC. This is understandable since it's been around for decades, but it would be nice to have them update it. It was very hard trying to find our seats inside, because even though they have the sections painted over the entrances inside, the seat and rows are not shown on the concrete floor. (It's even more horrible trying to find it in the dark). We were very disappointed to have been told to throw our water bottle away at the entrance only to see that water bottles were being sold for $3. RIDICULOUS. They also had concessions including nachos, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, etc. Of course the prices were a bit much. I will say the security is pretty legit here. The show was pretty entertaining. Our seats were pretty good and the prices for the tickets were reasonable. read more

I haven't been here for a concert in years...nothing much has changed. It definitely depends on the event taking place here. Because, when the circus comes it's always a great time! Great seats pretty much anywhere you sit! However, I came here last Friday night for the 'Spring Jam' and nothing much has changed since my last visit in 2013. First and far most, the sound system is super horrible. I could barely hear the words through the microphones of the singers. They were so suffocated by the music you couldn't tell if they were singing or better yet even knew the song. Just awful! Screeching sounds and all. This place needs a serious uplift on the inside and outside. Until then, I will not return for another concert. But please be aware of the long walk from the parking lot (free parking) to the venue. And ladies, please please please leave your high heels at home. The doors usually open one hour before showtime... this is a great perk. Ticket box office is onsite...this is a great perk. IMO if you do not absolutely want to see a particular show save your money and wait until the act performs elsewhere. Have fun:) read more

It has quite a large parking lot and is located right off the highway and near downtown Hampton and a lot of hotels. It has a nice decor, giving an almost Sydney-like feel to the coliseum outer design. It does seem very old however, with some parts in clear need of cleaning and/or maintenance, and not capable of holding very large events where the activity needs a lot of room. read more

Came here once for a concert. First, I was surprised at 1. How much parking there was 2. Parking was free! So convenient! When I arrived, getting in wasn't too bad. There were several lines/doors to go through so it went quick. Once inside, we were a little confused because they don't check your ticket until you're at the 2nd door of your section. So it took us a little to figure out what side we needed to be on. The seating signs are a little confusing, so we asked a guard for help. He told us how to get to our seats, but I noticed others walking guests to their seat. Not a big deal but worth noting if you'd like the extra help. I love the seating -- the seats are at a slant so I was able to have a clear vision of the stage from mezz c/13. Side note, this place gave me high school gym vibes! Not a pro or con, just an observation. Also, the sound cut off at various points, but not sure if that was on the coliseum or the concert folks. read more

I love this venue because of its history with some of America's best rock and roll bands. The parking lot is enormous and easy to get into. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby. The place is dated, but the sound is still incredible and gets bouncing when the bass hits, which can be scary but exciting at the same time. The staff and local police are always excited for the fans and enjoying the moment. The concessions could be upgraded, but it's not one of my main concerns when visiting for a show. For the smokers in the crowd, there is a beautiful patio that wraps around the arena, which has excellent views of the surrounding area. You must catch a show here before it's too late. read more

Sweet baby jesus this is one of the best places for a show/concert. First of all, it looks like a goddamn UFO from the outside. So spacey.. and beautiful. Freaking love it. Obviouslyyyy was here for BASSNECTAR and he makes everything amazing. The one thing I was thinking though, is that I was actually expecting more from the Sound system, seeing as though it's shaped like a UFO :p But I guess it is a stadium.. that's the only thing. I've been here for a number of events, concerts, Disney on Ice, Ringling Brothers, etc. I would personally like a renovation with regards to the seating. The seats are dated and can become uncomfortable after an hour or so sitting. I enjoy the venue however. The ushers are always on point with seating location/assistance. The food/beverages are highly priced as you'd expect. Some events hosted will have alcohol, others not. The sound can be "iffy". One concert the music/sound was loud but distorted and unclear. Last concert the sound was outstanding, so maybe they've updated that side of the house. Parking used to be a pain, the getting out piece especially. However they've done a good job of coordinating with local police and getting out of the parking lot was easy/peasy, and so far parking has been free. That's always a plus. read more

Could not have asked for a better venue for Bass Center XII. Visually stunning, contracted security was so nice, lines were never too long, staff was so sweet and patient. The actual setup is easy to navigate and never feels crowded, so as a GA ticket holder who can move about the venue, we never felt like we were packed in a sardine can. Thank you, Coliseum! I'm a fan - while inside it's not as large as I was expecting (I'm not sure how many people this particular location seats) there was plenty of free parking and the architecture of the building on the outside is neat. Also - after our show they reversed the entrance traffic so both sides and all lanes were allowing everyone to depart instead of forcing everyone to bottleneck. Traffic flowed very smoothly and everyone was able to depart in about 10-15 minutes - far faster than i was expecting. Great job. read more

We came to the Hampton Coliseum for the 48th Annual Hampton Jazz Festival. Although traffic coming to collisiem for such big events like this one always seems like it will be a pain because you're just gonna inch your way to find a decent parking spot, that is not the case at all. Police officers are there to make the task seamless at best. We went to two shows that occurred on a Friday and Saturday night and it took us all of 15 minutes from entrance to parking to walking into the venue. I think that is excellent. Upon entering, of course they check your bag ladies to ensure no contraband makes its way into the venue ( to cut into their food and drink sales), but that is the norm when going to any concert event. l swear there is not a bad seat in the house. We sat in two different seating areas, the Arena area, which were the tiered seating just off of the Arena floor and Section Q, tiered seating the was high up to the right of the stage. I preferred the Q section because there seemed to be more room to be comfortable, or it could have been because there was an empty seat beside me. View of the stage was great. The Arena seating had a great view of the stage, but you had to sit slightly turned to the right to view the stage and with someone sitting directly beside you, it became uncomfortable quick with the occasional touching of arms and legs. The wonderful thing about this venue is that the seating goes BEHIND the stage as well and the artist occasionally acknowledged the patrons during there various sets. The sound system was pretty decent on Sat, but Fri, there was so much feedback from the microphone that the show was not the greatest to enjoy when you are a purveyor of jazz. The food and drink vendor were what they were, serving standard arena fare and drinks at abhorrently jacked up prices. I never partake in such robbery. The bathrooms were clean. I always enjoy the events at this venue, but the next time l will def try to purchase the seating behind the stage to explore that interesting vantage point. read more

Came here last night for the first time for the R&b valentines rewind concert. I got here about 45mins before the actual concert and there was plenty of parking. Also the parking was free which was a pleasant surprise. The building itself is kind of older inside and could use some remodeling. The staff at the event where helpful and nice they seemed happy to be working. Went for a two-night show. The venue is beautiful and so unique. Lines were slow but not anymore so than any other sold out show I've been to and staff were patient and courteous. What most prompted me to write was the lack of accessibility. Well after our trip was planned, I completely tore a knee ligament. Knowing that I would be in a knee immobilizer, potentially on crutches, and moving very slow my partner emailed the venue with this information to help us determine whether we could still reasonably make the trip. We were told there would be an ADA entrance and plenty of seating and we felt reassured. But this has been far from easy. Turns out the ADA entrance is combined with the VIP entrance so the line was twice as long as the regular entrance. The first night we did arrive close the band start time, and I ended up having to climb five plus flights of stairs (no elevators observed) to sit in the top most row of the venue where the only seats remained. Believing it was our mistake for not arriving earlier, we arrived to the venue much earlier second night. And two in my party walked well ahead to try to find a seated spot. Yet, we still ended up on the top most row. Thank goodness they at least did that or I might have been without a seat all together. Our other frustration is that they block the street outside the venue after the show. We had multiple ride shares cancel on us night one before we realized this. And then it was a task to both get to the end of the block in time to connect one and find one who was willing to wait on us because I'm moving so slowly due to my injury. Under normal circumstances this would have been a great experience but left feeling as if we had tried to do our homework and assess and were mislead. read more

On the upper level, doors lead outside to the wrap around terrace and views of the lake. First of all Chris Brown and Ty killed it. Show started on time and the dj kept the show going in between sets. I was entertained but not so much by Tory Lanes. Anyway regarding the venue, there was confusion about purses and whether they were allowed. Some security lines were allowing them and some weren't because of this I left my purse in car so I wouldn't be turned away. Besides that there were pricey concessions, messy bathrooms etc you know normal venue things. I felt safe would return. read more

I volunteer at pretty much every event at the coliseum. Amazing concerts and shows come to this venue. Different genres too. There is ample parking, ample seating and ample concessions. The concessions are a bit pricey, but it is to be expected for an entertainment venue... You can purchase tickets online or at the ticket booth. Also all of the seating provides a good view of the main stage for a concert or center floor for a show such as Disney on Ice, or Monster Jam. The employees are all kind too and willing to help if you have any questions or get lost. Getting lost is easy to do because the venue is a circle. I've been volunteering 2 years and still get lost!! :-) read more

In light of the Phish reunion to take place at the Hampton Coliseum this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I thought I would write up a review on this old hockey area turned spaceship... thats right, spaceship Now I should mention that the only events I have seen here have been Phish shows so I have only seen this area as a spaceship. It seems that the parking lot was made for a Phish show. An endless walk way into the venue which makes for a perfect area for Shakedown! At about 4 pm they turn on the outside lights of the coliseum, which makes it look like a giant spaceship (how many times can I say "spaceship" in one review) very cool sight to see. Once inside you walk through the doors and right to the floor area, nice! All the shows I have seen here have been GA and have never been up in the seats, why be in the seats when the floor is right there? Although I have blindly, spunly stumbled to the area behind the stage a few times and the sound is just as good! which brings me to the acoustics, crystal fucking clear! I have seen Phish in arenas all over the country and this one has by far the best sound! For arenas that is. So if you find yourself in Hampton, VA when Phish is in town, swing by and say hello T-minus 4 fucking days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Eh I'd say this place is ok. A big concrete entertainments structure with stadium type seating. If you pay more for floor seating, they just set out folding chairs. Nothing fancy. I haven't had the greatest experience at the concession stands. When the cashiers were having a problem with my order, followed by cash register issues, 4 of them just stood there watching the register happenings instead of taking orders to all the people behind us! Everyone was annoyed. Perhaps it is their first job or they haven't been thoroughly trained. This wouldn't be my venue of choice for any entertainment. 3 starts for having good entertainments tho! read more

This is indeed the mothership. I have been dreaming of going to see a show here, and of course I wanted it to be Phish so when I saw Fall Tour dates and checked the calendar and I was off to Hampton! It was so worth the money and the travel to see my band here with such amazing friends for 3 nights just after my Birthday!! The coliseum was everything I wanted it to be. It was packed, hot, sweaty, and loose!! No people working to tell you to move from the aisles, all GA so you could go where ever you wanted. Short bathroom lines, great beer served (until they ran out) clean, and loud!! CK 5 light the place up and Phish lifted us off. The parking lot was a hang out too. I went to the Hampton Coliseum for a WWE Live event. Funny, the last time I was there was in the late 90s for a WWF Raw event. For all you wrestling fans, the referenced Raw event was when DX invaded WCW. I really don't think this place has been updated in years. The outside fountain area looked quite aged... The concrete looks like it could use some repaving. Inside on the floor were a bunch of old chairs. But hey, I was sitting in the third row and got to see Lana and the Bella Twins. It really didn't matter where I was! By way of event venues I would rather go to The Ted, Norfolk Scope and then the Hampton Colisuem. read more

I have come to the Hampton Coliseum several times for the Circus. This time I am here for Jazziest. Its a great place to attend a special event. They have several areas of concession stands with options like Pretzels, pizza, chicken, Funnel Cakes, etc. They also have areas for beers, and wines. During intermittions you can smoke on a terrace. The only complaint i have is the sitting is very cramped. It could be an uncomfortable experience for sold out events. read more

So one friend once told me that the group Phish loves the Hampton Coliseum, in fact he said it was their favorite place to play because it looks like a spaceship. Now, I'm not the biggest Phish fan in the world, actually I'm not really a fan at all, but I gotta agree with them on the whole spaceship thing. Oh, and on the Hampton Coliseum being pretty darn cool thing as well. I have been going there since I was a kid and I've always been pretty fond of the place. There are lots of different shows and activities that come through the Coliseum and I've always enjoyed them all. I love Hampton Coliseum and the variety of shows it hosts. I love the lighting, sounds and just the setup/layout. It is very spacious and easily accessible/conveniently located in the Hampton Coliseum District, woohoo! I love the fact that it's free parking - AMEN! And the ticket box offices are conveniently located inside. I love their water fountain feature outside. When The Mothership came into view for my very first glimpse of this magnificent venue, I knew it was a special place. When My Wife Mary and I purchased our tickets for the 11/21 &11/22/97 2 night stop there by our favorite band Phish, we didn't realize that the magic that takes place there is legendary and we were not to be disappointed. From the opening notes of the bands debut-cover of The Rolling Stones "Emotional Rescue" to the close of the Saturday Tweezer Reprise encore, the bands stop in Hampton 1997 were 2 more classics in a now legendary Fall 97 Tour. read more
