Mississippi Moon Bar is a great medium sized venue for catching a band. There really isn't a bad…read moreplace to sit/stand where you don't feel close to the action. The general admission floor area gains you an up close and personal experience right up to the stage. Unlike many venues there's even a concession stand near the front area. You can't beat $3 cans of beer at a concert. Of course being a casino there's even a few dozen slot machines within the venue to pass the time while waiting for your act to start. We saw The Struts and they really put on a high energy show. Our tickets were $30 and with that we were within touching distance of the group throughout the show. This was our first venture to Mississippi Moon Bar and the Diamond Jo Casino, and likely will not be our last.

I generally try to avoid casino music venues, as I find it depressing as hell to walk through…read morecasinos and seeing people who can least afford it plying slot machines with their earnings. Also, cigarette smoke. But I really wanted to see The Mavericks perform so I went with my best friend. I was surprised how nice it was. I had a floor GA ticket and my friend was stuck standing by the bar. I tried to upgrade her ticket to no avail. They said the floor was filled to capacity due to fire rules. However we were able to get her down there anyway. I almost laughed out loud at their definition of "full". In New Orleans or Philly, this floor would only be considered 2/3 full. There was plenty of room which made it great! The acoustics were quite good. Great sight lines. Staff friendly and drinks cheap. No one was smoking in the music venue, only in the casino itself. Free garage parking. There are a couple of restaurants and a Subway if you want a quick hoagie. I did not eat here.

This is one of my favorite rock n roll clubs/bars in Iowa! Located right off the Mississippi where…read morethe boats are docked to shore, this is a great place to cast your anchor and hang out for a night and watch some music! When entering the bar you might think you are in a different land, and in a different time! It feels kinda like an Irish pub in a dungeon! But there's a pool table so you know your safe! There are two long bars one on the side room where the music is and one in the main room! I have been here numerous times of the past 10 years and the bar tenders always seem to be the same. And they are great! Prices are great too, you can get your fancy whisky or craft brews, but they also carry cans of PBR, and Old Mil for us on a budget! The music room is great, it has great sound, and Aaron H. who has booked here for years brings in great stuff, a totally curated room of music! The locals just come here cause there is live music and they usually leave satisfied in their choice cause Aaron has great taste! I have been lucky enough to play here a few times and every time I have had a great time! They have a great back patio as well, but like I said they are right off the Mississippi so it might get kinda buggy sometimes! This is a total gem if you find yourself in Dubuque!

We went here on 4th of July weekend after the kids baseball tournament (we are from out of state)…read more Inside is a good size, sports bar-ish vibes. Public parking is close by. It's probably a 15 minute walk from Grand Harbor hotel. We came for the burger variety and milk shakes. Unfortunately they were out of ice cream so not everyone in the party got to enjoy shakes which was disappointing considering that was one of the selling points. Server was very polite as we know it wasn't his fault. Burgers were fantastic. Breaded Fries had great potential but a bit greasy for me. My son ordered a plain burger but was served a fully loaded. When the kitchen server came out and asked whose burger it was, we said it wasn't ours because he ordered a plain burger. She stated that it must be this one and handed to him. No harm done as he's not allergic to lettuce, tomato or pickles (kind of...he's a kid!) but just a miss there considering it wasn't the least bit busy. While I appreciate the casual atmosphere and table graffiti, they were rather sticky. There was a film on them so thick you could scratch with your nail. When your arms stick to the table it's a little annoying but it was upper 80's and humid. If I was local I'd give it another go. If you're visiting and love burgers, try it out as maybe we just had bad luck on a holiday weekend. Burgers were A+, just minor misses but nothing deal breaking unless it's a common occurrence.

If you're with folks who wouldn't be comfortable in seating that height (as we were), not to worry! They have additional traditional table seating through a doorway to the right of the bar. They have a large menu so there's definitely a little something for everyone. I ordered the brie grilled cheese with fries. It was good. I expected more flavor from the brie (it tasted very mild) but the jalapeno jelly added a nice sweetness and a bit of flavor. The atmosphere is your standard pub. It's in a historical building and they provide a bit of the history on their menu which was neat to read. The service was accommodating and efficient. Get to it!
