Friendly and helpful staff. The food is out of this world and always unique they really have a way of making the most delicious selections and wide variety! I love the chocolate cookies!! The place itself is cute and whimsical with small a small sitting area and picnic tables outside! Make sure you get there always as there is typically a line before they even open!! read more

The best bakery! They are open 2 days a week, and sometimes they close for the week so you have to watch their Facebook for announcements. They usually have 3-4 bread options with pizza focaccia and some side dishes like mac and cheese or knish; cookie options; croissants, pies, muffins. read more

Hammerbacher Bakery is easily one of my favorite spots whenever I'm anywhere near the area. While Germans may not have the global reputation for baking or cooking that some other cultures do, such as Italy or France, this place completely flips that assumption on its ear. The quality, flavor, and consistency of everything they make are outstanding. Every time I stop in, the baked goods speak for themselves. You can tell a lot of care and skill goes into what they produce, and it shows in both the taste and the loyal following they've built. The only "downside," if you can even call it that, is that there's never a lull in the action. This place is always busy. If you show up an hour before they're set to open, chances are there's already a hearty group of customers standing outside waiting for the doors to unlock. That kind of crowd tells you everything you need to know. If you're in the area and enjoy great baked goods, Hammerbacher Bakery is absolutely worth the stop. Just be ready to share the line with plenty of other people who clearly feel the same way. read more

My first visit to Hammerbacher after following the bakery on social media for a year (!!) exceeded all expectations! As a Brooklyn resident who comes to the Ventnor area in summer I can say -- this place would have a line around the block (and be twice as expensive) in NYC. There's still a line but it's withstandable :) What looks like a random building down a side street in EHC houses a cozy, eclectically-decorated bakery that feels like a cool giant living room with 70s-meets-mid century decor. There's a ton of seating to enjoy the treats you buy (or to keep a patient husband comfy while you wait on line). Once it's your turn one of the employees will patiently guide you through the MANY fresh selections -- and probably convince you to buy much more than you planned on! I walked away with triple chocolate and chocolate chip cookies; a chocolate chip scone; strawberry cream "poof"; strawberry rhubarb cream tart; mini herb and cheese focaccia; and a bbq pulled pork knish (?!!). Somehow all of this was only $30. Everything is picture-perfect and beyond delectable -- but favorites were the scone and rhubarb tart. Recommend getting there close to opening to avoid a long wait and have the best selection possible. Can't wait to go back! read more

In pains me to write this because I've been a fan for many years. Their bread, pastries, baked goods, and savor items are phenomenal. They put a lot of work into creating some of the best products I've tasted. However, my criticism is only based on their hours and sometimes closing for other events that you wouldn't know unless you follow them on social media. We haven't been their in awhile because of a recent change in their hours and selection going down. Went out of our way this Friday and it was closed due to preparation for an event. I still wish them great success and tell all my friends about them, which was another level of frustration when they changed their business model and hours. Please continue to follow them on social media to keep track of hours and any closings because they are that good. read more

So good, we just randomly picked things to take home and try, breads, pastries, cookies, brownies, knishes, all are amazing - my first time there, but we will be regulars moving forward! read more

Went yesterday and waited in a very long line and bought much more than I intended after the wait. Honestly everything was the best. Loved the knishes, chocolate croissants, focaccia...all superb. Even a zucchini blueberry muffin was way beyond expected. ...and they randomly had hamburgers. OK how good can a hamburger be? Trust me that good. read more

It's a bakery that if you let it will transport you via your taste buds to carbo-heaven. Their CROPS cookies are the better version of what oatmeal raisin wishes and prays it might grow up to be. The rotation of their focaccia versions with or without some gooey cheese... the one off creations that you beg to have them re-do and put into their regular rotation like their rice pudding?!! I mean GAH! It's tooo craveable. They will do "surprise" offerings of breakfast sandwiches like in the photo attached. You need to log into their web page to get the "secret" word and without knowing what it is, just go got it! You'll never leave unsatisfied. They are up on the COVID restrictions. Ensure you wear your mask even whenever the state or county relaxes their requirements. They use Square for payment. Quick. Touch-less. Easy. Worth every penny. Treat yourself and your loved ones with this baker's creative comfort. read more

Hammerbacher - Their serendipitous breakfast sandwich!!! German sliced luncheon meat. Scrumptious - Bakeries Near Me - Egg Harbor City, New Jersey

This is baked-goods-heaven inside a discrete location in Egg Harbor City. Apparently always has a line and been there for a very long time. Everything I had was delicious and satisfying. Special mention to the mashed and cheddar knish - it was amazing. Staff here - very pleasant, helpful and very patient with every customer's whim to add more to their tray. The set up in here allows you to browse some more while you wait in line - great for marketing even if it wasn't on purpose. Even with the limited hours of W, F, Sat, this would have been a five star review had it not been for the prices. So fair warning that it really can be a very expensive trip. read more

I was on my way to Atlantic City and I heard this place has good cinnamon buns. I don't know what to expect when I got there but the place was very cute, amazing design and has a variety of pastries and goodies. I came late, close to closing which I was bummed because a lot of the items were sold out for the day. I was lucky they have one cinnamon bun left so I took that as well as a brownie, cupcake, and a chocolate cake-looking bakery. Everything tasted good, not overly sweet. I wish the cinnamon bun would be fresher but I understand I got there late. I would try other items next time when I'm there. read more

I can't rave enough. Went today and my hubby said it was the potato knish he ever had, even better that the lower east side. WOW, that is saying a lot because we live Yona shimmels. The Stick bread has these burnt little nipples on each end that are insane! They should just sell bag full of the bread nips, they are that good! What a gem of a bakery, they know what they are doing for sure! read more

My family goes here at least once a week. No exaggeration, EVERYTHING is good here. The breads are amazing, the olive and sunflower in particular. The cookies are perfect, the sun flower and the chocolate chip are top notch. Some of my favorite treats were the brownies, so gooey and soft in the middle when you heat them up for a few seconds. The cinnamon buns were also great! One show stopper was these little lemon blueberry cakes with a torched meringue topping, so light and airy but not overly sweet. Be warned they have very limited hours and they sell out of items quickly, so get there right when they open for a full selection of goodies! read more

Quirky little place. I had a knish. Fresh and was very tasty. The workers were very friendly. I would go back. The place was very tiny and there wasn't much left since I went late -- go early in the day or everything will be sold out. Hidden gem. read more

This bakery is a vintage diamond hidden away in the back streets of Egg Harbor City. It is truly a culinary experience. Walking in and looking around at the amazing pastries and breads, is a sight to behold. It was my first visit and I was warmly welcomed and given a tour and education of the baked goods on the center island. Everyone there seemed to love what they were doing. The cupcake with the buttery decadent moist yellow cake was delicious. The brownie was so decadent moist and chocolatey that you could only eat half of it. There were lots of people in line but you didn't have to wait long. This is a must see place. They tell me they're on Facebook. They do have limited hours and days that they are open. Check it out! read more

There are no good bakeries in mays landing area. This place is a gem ! Everything that I bought was delicious starting from egg sandwich to apple pie to cinnamon rolls and so on. I would love for them to add coffee and lattes to the menu. They do have a pop up of "offering coffee" sometimes. I definitely recommend. read more

Excellent baked goods, definitely worth the wait! We were lucky to find this gem while visiting May's Landing.

Hammerbacher has been my saving grace during this new normal. They have set up certain days and times for goodies, as well as a well thought-out process to keep people safe that allows you to order ahead of time to pick up later in the day. I truly look forward to seeing what they have each week and am also glad they change up the menu. My favorites are: almondines, sin buns, barnacle, brioche ball, danishes, brownies, blondies, chocolate CRX (croissant) - probably missing a few but everything is SO GOOD. People are friendly! Always a pleasant experience! Shout out to @chauweeat on Instagram for getting me hooked. read more

Every Saturday I wake up and lunge for my phone to check Facebook for what is on the menu at Hammerbacher. Then when something catches my eye it's a mad dash to get there before they sell out! Love this place! They only open for a few hours a couple times a week so it pays to follow them on Facebook- you can keep track of when they will be open and what they are baking! Each time they are open they have a whole different menu of amazing baked goods (with some recurring favorites). While I personally think their strengths lie on the savory side with their breads and especially the knishes, they also have lots of sweet breads, cookies, pies etc that show up on the table and sell out just as quickly. Definition of a local gem where you walk right into their kitchen to buy freshly baked creations. To be honest I hesitated to write a review because I don't want any more competition buying their limited supplies before I get there! read more

I read the reviews and thought this must be a great place. I decided to visit on 7/19/18 . At first glance the baked items looked great . Forget it, I don't know what the hell everyones talking about it sucked! The brownies were undercooked and tasted terrible. The blondies were also under cooked and terrible. The chocolate cookies were bitter he used unsweetened coco and no sugar absolutely horrible. Look I love food and if I thought this review was unfair I wouldn't write it. This is another example of people writing reviews that have no idea what's good. The only edible thing was the bread . I just don't understand don't they taste the stuff they make? read more

This place is definitely a hidden gem (literally...). Every time you walk in, there's always something new and delicious for you to try. You won't always find the same thing every time you go, but you're bound to find something great. You get to watch them make everything right in front of you, which I thought was pretty cool.
