There are cracks in the walls from poor finishing. The counters pulled away from the walls after just a few years. Any "repairs" take forever to schedule, are half-measures at best, and require at least three repeat visits for the "fixes" to actually do anything. We finally gave up and paid thousands to have the roof repaired by someone else to avoid any potential structural damage from Dila's continued shoddy work. It is currently raining in my half-bath because I've been asking them since August 2020 to fix the leak they created when replacing the house trim. (A job that they had to be pestered to finish, that left black paint on the rest of my house that they just tried to cover with the existing lighter paint, and the trim is already showing damage.)

I see that today, Chad Hall, the owner responded to my review with blatant lies. I was not refunded. I sued and won my case (Fairfax County General District Court case number GV18005396-00). Then my attorneys spent months trying to collect on my judgement. In the meantime, I had to find another contractor to completely demolish what Remodelmate did and start anew. I even had to replace my carpet on the upper floor due to paint spills and the floor on the main level due to a flood caused by the contractor. Less than zero stars would be appropriate. Buyer beware.

My wife and I were very disappointed by our experience attempting to work with Remodelmate. The…read moreonly positive thing I can say is that we didn't have to sign a contract for the whole project up front, and that allowed us to back out after it became clear that they were not being upfront about how much they were going to charge us for the work when all was said and done. We first contacted Remodelmate in March 2022 after realizing that there was significant damage to the sewer drain pipe connecting to the toilet in the bathroom of our fixer-upper. Because we knew this was going to be a big issue, we jumped on a call with Chad early-on to confirm that repairing/replacing this was included in the estimate (list of "Milestones") they provided so that we could fairly compare it against other estimates that also included it. Chad assured us that it was included and noted that they remodel bathrooms in various conditions with all sorts of problems, and this isn't really that big of a deal. We made the mistake of taking his word for it. Relying on the list of Milestones and their corresponding prices, and our conversation with Chad, we decided to work with Remodelmate. We paid them a $250 deposit, an additional $500 for professional design, and purchased thousands of dollars in materials in anticipation of the start date they assigned us. Much to our surprise, when the contractor showed up on our start date they almost immediately informed us that the sewer drain was not included and would add approximately $4,500 to the cost. The contractor also informed us that a number of other charges had been omitted from the List of Milestones, and there would be significant additional charges to complete the job they helped us design. On the day the work was supposed to start, the total cost for the job went from just over $12,000 to more than $21,000. We immediately contacted Remodelmate expecting that they would honor what Chad told us with regard to the sewer drain. This time we were put in touch with Logan, who initially agreed to talk with Chad to determine whether there was a misunderstanding, but he never gave us an explanation despite repeated requests. He matter-of-factly explained that we would have to pay the full additional charge if we wanted to proceed with the work, and we never heard from Chad again. It was infuriating. We did not understand how Remodelmate could provide us with a design, and what we understood was a complete estimate, only to then say they left out almost half of the steps needed to complete the project as designed. To their credit, Remodelmate ultimately acknowledged mistakes were made and offered a couple of small freebies, but nothing that came close to making up for grossly underestimating the cost of the work, which caused us to choose them in the first place. We were fortunate that at the time we realized who we were dealing with we were only out the $750 + materials, and still had the option to walk away. I'm thankful that we were able to find another reputable company to do the work that was honest and up front with us about the true cost of the work. At first, I worried that may be this is just how the remodeling business works, but we didn't have any of these problems with the company who ultimately did the work on our bathroom. If you decide to go with Remodelmate I would suggest recording any phone conversations with them and if you intend to rely on a commitment from them be sure that every word of it is in writing.

Reached out to them as my wife and I are interested in remodeling both of our bathrooms and had received several recommendations so I was interesting in talking with them. Since I had already done demo on the guest, I had a framework of a layout for the guest and master baths and shared that with Glickman. Doug and Tim (I think was his name?) met with my wife and I, looked over the space, talked with us, gave us their approach, how this would work, etc. Tim presented some potential alternatives that were interesting but that would greatly increase the scope of the remodel. Both gentlemen were very professional and polite but the conversation circled back to budget several times and the numbers that they were referencing were quite a bit higher than the range that we were thinking, which at time, I thought, 'ok, I am completely off the mark?'. After some discussion with my wife, we decided that we wanted to make a slight change to the master bathroom layout so I sent Doug the updated drawing for the framework that we were thinking. This was on a Monday. Fast forward to the following Wednesday (9 days later), I finally hear back from Doug saying that Glickman will have to pass as: "We don't think you would be happy with how this would look" "We don't want you to have buyer's remorse" "You wouldn't be happy with a smaller tub" It's every business' right to pass on work, I have no problems with that but it's the manner in which this was communicated by telling me how I would feel. If you are THAT worried about how I would feel, perhaps propose some alternatives? Especially since I repeatedly stated that it was a design framework and I didn't know if it would even work? Or perhaps just say "We don't think we can give you what you are looking for". Also, with regards to the budget numbers, I've now spoken to 6 different remodelers, the numbers that Glickman were throwing out are still 30% higher than the next highest number. And these other remodelers are reputable design/build establishments. It's possible that the numbers I'm getting are deceiving so will have to see how it all pans out. If Glickman is focused on higher end, higher budget work, then that's perfectly ok but make that clear at the start.

Although Lee did not perform the job himself, Ivan and his team came out to repair the drywall and replace the carpet. Some highlights were: 1) The crew was able to start working almost immediately after I called Master's Construction. 2) Ivan worked very hard to find the closest match to my existing carpet. It sounded like he was checking out quite a few places until he found someone all the way in Richmond that had our carpet! As you are aware, I have 2 dear friends that highly recommended W Builders; there is nothing like having people you know and respect give you the courage to move ahead with work I've been wanting to have done for some time now. Embarking on any home project is often very daunting; between the cost, your house turned upside down and of course having workers in your home while you still have to live there. I am so happy to say, you somehow made all of this quite seamless! I've owned my home for over 30 years and have done countless projects so when I tell you that your company has been my favorite and an easy one to recommend, it's saying a lot! The quality of your work is excellent and your staff does not cut corners! One day in passing, your workers specifically mentioned to me how much they enjoyed working for you as you allow them to perform their designated trade in the way they would like things to be done, even if it may take a bit longer. The gentlemen that you had on this job always respected my home which means a lot. The other compliment I would like to pass along is timeless; something that rarely happens in this line of work. Upon requesting a consult for the scope of work, you were quick to set up an appointment and equally quick on providing me with a written estimate. The estimate was detailed and accurate and if I added any additional work you were good at following up on a written statement with the additional cost. The fact that you started the project early and the crew showed up every day, on time and worked more than a full day is impressive and sadly a rarity in this business. Lastly it was easier to make choices on flooring, bathroom fixtures and the like by having you go with me to the store, being honest on your thoughts and guiding me based on my budget. Even when I purchased too much flooring you graciously took it all back and had a credit put back on my card. Thank you for renewing my faith in contractors and for exceeding my expectations with this project, something I had wanted to do for such a long time but had no idea where to start or who to use. Scott, the owner, is an ex-Marine, and after receiving several personal recommendations from friends who had used him for much bigger projects, we felt confident in our decision. The estimators and project managers were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. One thing that really set Abode apart was the itemized breakdown of costs, unlike other contractors who gave flat quotes with no explanation. They weren't the most expensive option we looked at, but they also weren't the cheapest. We felt that, based on the quality of work and the transparency in their pricing, their pricing was fair and reasonable. We received cheaper quotes, but they lacked the detail and professionalism that Abode provided. In the end, we felt we got excellent value for what we paid. The house was built in the '80s, and the bathroom had never been updated, so we knew we might run into some surprises. But Scott and his team were great at walking us through the entire renovation, keeping everything clear and transparent from start to finish. I was able to manage the project from a distance while they worked closely with my parents, ensuring everything was just right. They installed features like grab bars and a curbless shower to make the space safe and accessible, all while maintaining a stylish and modern look. In the end, the bathroom is not only safe and functional, but it's also beautiful. My parents--who are in their 80s--are thrilled with the transformation, and the updates will allow them to stay in their home longer.
