After receiving a high price quote ($300+) from the leading competitor in town to clean and reshape 2 old felt cowboy hats, one of which was pretty badly squashed, I went to Hamley's to see what they would quote me for the job. I wasn't looking for freebies, but I couldn't afford the other guy's quote. Rachelle, the employee there that fixed my hats, did it for $20 apiece and did a phenomenal job - I couldn't be happier. She even fixed me a new hat band to replace the one that the competitor crumpled up and tossed at me across the table. I highly recommend her work and I will be back to bring her the rest of my collection. read more

Great store for anything Western / Cowboy! They have been making saddles and leather goods for over 100 years. Super friendly staff! We enjoyed just talking with them. There is also a cafe, steakhouse and bar in the same building. Wish we could have spent more time there. Apparently this has been a staple in the Pendleton area for years and years. This review is going to be strictly on their 1883 Cafe & Wine Bar. We decided to stop her before eating at the Steak House. We wanted some wine & an appetizer so we could enjoy the evening before dinner. We got two wine flights (one red & one white) and the Spinach Artichoke dip. The young lady who served us was very knowledgeable and was an amazing server. The Spinach Artichoke dip with the Pita bread was wonderful. In fact it was probably some of the beat we had. While we didn't enjoy the white flight of wine, that is our own palette and we did love the Reds that were offered in the flight. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and a wonderful introduction to Hamleys. read more

Literally the worse run bar I have ever experienced. When are here 3 years ago the food was great but don't go here to get a drink. I am not telling you the bar tenders are bad. I am saying the process is completely broken. People stand in line where a bar tender will provide help serving stations not a new concept. read more

Stopped here as I was passing through the area for a late lunch on Memorial Day. The lady working was super friendly despite my raid weary appearance. I have a great pulled pork sandwich with their own unique sauce. The brioche bun was a nice touch and the pulled pork had good flavor. Great coffee too. read more

What a beautiful western store. Rachelle greeted my husband and I immediately today upon entrance to this take you back in time shop. The moment you walk in your nostrils are enveloped with the aroma of leather. I've been wanting a pair of boots and this was the place I found them. I tried a few different type boots on while seated on teddy Roosevelt's horse hair filled cushion bench. They allowed our dog to be off lease and roam around greeting and sniffing anyone that came through the doors. After I found my boots it was my husbands turn to find his hat. Walking to the other side of the store is a leather workshop behind glass doors, saddles freshly made, and a multitude of hats decorating an entire wall that is framed by a solid oak wood bar from a century old saloon. He quickly fell in love with a hat hand made and Rachelle steamed and sculpted the hat and brim to his specific likings. Upstairs you can find a bar table butch Cassidy himself drank around and portraits of princesses of the rodeos. read more

We travelled to Pendleton to celebrate my birthday by eating a meal at one of our favorite places. Unfortunately they were closed so we opted to go by and have dinner at Hamley's. It was not a good experience. We were seated in the bar and it took a long time to get any attention from the staff, I ordered a drink and my husband ordered an iced tea. He got his tea and was served his salad and finished it before I ever got my drink. As it turns out, it was sitting, completed, on the bar for a good 15-20 minutes. I couldn't even get the attention of any staff to check for me. Our food arrived. The steak was OK but the chimichurri sauce was bland. The fingerling potatoes were so dry I couldn't finish them. The side vegetables were charred and most were wilted, and not in a tasty way. I was really disappointed to pay for a very sub par birthday dinner. Super cute cafe. It has two levels inside and really gives you the western feel. My friend and I came over after the Pendleton underground musuem. It was chilly outside so my friend and I decided to grab a hot coffee. The girl inside was very friendly. We decided to wait on comfy lounge chairs for our coffee and the barista even brought us our drinks! Great service and my mocha was good! read more

Just visited during Round Up. Even found a silver pendant I decided to buy. When I went to pay... ooops not the right price tag. Two other pendants exactly the same both had different prices. The guy said he wasn't part of Hamleys just in from Oklahoma for the week. Well, sure reflects poorly on Hamleys. Don't know how you operate in Oak but here when it says a price that's what we pay. Didn't know what I was stepping into. Annoyingly, the waitresses stood there and waited until you walked up to the counter and ordered their food. What's the point? It wasn't slammed on the Sunday afternoon we ate there. Oh well, less tip. This store is such a blast! My husband and I visited while on a roadtrip that took us through Pendleton. They have some AMAZING things in stock! Really high quality stuff at good prices. Take a moment to stop by - we spent over an hour and left with 3 shirts and a jacket. My favorite thing (and so very important, but often overlooked nowadays) was the welcoming staff. Everyone was so friendly and warm, we could've spent another hour just hanging out with those kind folks. We had such a great experience that I just called and ordered a leather jacket today. A "cafe" it's not, a creepy version of a Starbucks, yes. Pretentious and plastic wrapped baked goods do nothing to tempt the senses. In fact, the lack of sensuality in this "tourist trap" is completely surprising given the visual charm of Pendleton, OR. Oh, my cashier's/waitress's snarky attitude and passive aggressive smirk made my experience intolerable. Sadly, my husband had paid before I could suggest we get out of there. Had lunch here today and was pleasantly surprised by how great the food was! Everyone enjoyed their meal, nothing was bad and their potato salad was the best we've ever had. This is supposedly the place to go, but it's very expensive! Most of their clothing and boots are run of the mill stuff you can get anywhere. I found the same pair of boots at another retailer for $20 less - both on sale. Everything I purchased except one sweater was on sale.
