I had lamb shank which was cooked to perfection and my wife went for the scallops and monkfish which she told me was the best shed had in a long time,we both shared a warm chocolate brownie with a small glass of dessert wine which complimented the richness of the chocolate to perfection! I have to say I was very impressed with the whole experience and will be going back very soon, this time mob handed with friends!

A friend and I ate here Wednesday 1st June 2016 it's a small ish restaurant with around 10 tables for 2/4 on the ground floor, but a surprisingly larger room upstairs where functions such as tribute band nights a private do's are held I was impressed with the food quality. I had scallops raped in proceto, and my colleague had the veg soup. Both were tasty and well cooked the fish was tender and flavoursome the ham was crisp and and balanced well with the scallops, four scallops and a salad dressing My main course was Duck cooked pink with shaved root veg again flavesome and well balanced. When you first walk into this place you think, this is a bit small to be good, but eat your food then judge I was pleased with my food and so was my colleague. The beetroot is wrapped & deep fried, quite goat cheesy said my friends. Salmon cooked perfect. Seabass was a few fillets, all with crunchy skins but again, cooked perfect. I asked for a med-well ribeye which came out well done. No matter. It was a nice cut, tender, nicely seasoned. The peppercorn sauce I asked for on the side & it was wonderful. It was more of a gravy then sauce & I enjoyed it. Both deserts were wonderful. The cheesecake our fave. Couldn't taste the mulled wine, which was fine by us. The crust was solid & broke away nicely with a fork & no effort. The main road, depending on direction you're coming from, is very narrow & doesn't allow for 2 cars to pass easily. There are turnouts & many blindspots & corners due to design & landscaping. Will definitely return on my next visit to England.

Well must admit pulled into car park and yes there were some nice cars to be seen. But we also saw folk dressed casually but definitely no chavs . Quickly shown to window table for two, drink order taken and delivered quickly. I had a Sunday lunch of pork and beef with nice veg and roast potatoes done in duck fat. £24 . Ouch but it was worth lots of meat very nicely cooked. I would go for a 9 out of 10 simply because potatoes could have had more and larger. We waited around for several minutes until we were seen to. b) They had no record of our booking. Luckily they had a free table. c) We were seated, but although it was obvious we had a baby with us I still had to ask for a high chair. d) The waitress who seated us didn't offer to take drinks orders. e) Fifteen minutes later she came back to take our orders. I had to prompt her to ask us whether we would like some drinks. f) Another twenty minutes passed. I could see our drinks order waiting on the bar. It had been there for ten minutes. I had to ask another waitress to go and fetch it. g) We finally got our food an hour after arriving. My burger was quite average, unlike the price (£12). It was also well done, despite me asking for medium. The chips (or "frites", according to the menu) were standard average pub chips. h) We were given two dessert menus. One was for the Sunday roast, the other for the standard menu. The pudding I wanted was on both; on the Sunday roast menu it was £3 and on the other menu was £5.45. I was charged £5.45. The difference was taken away again when I pointed out that you can't charge almost double simply because an item is printed on a different piece of paper. I get the feeling that somebody has put a lot of money into this place, but they've ignored the basics, i.e. good, honest food and well trained staff. The chaos between the kitchen and front of house was obvious. All style and little substance, as another reviewer said. During our time there we noticed two other people making complaints. We didn't leave a tip and we won't be going back.

I have not had any food at the Malt Shovel but from what my friends have told me, the carvery is very nice. The beer garden is pretty spacious. It is a lovely place to be when it is a warm day and you have got a pint. Toilets are not too bad in terms on cleanliness. I found that a lot of old people do visit the Malt Shovel particularly during the afternoon. The Malt Shovel is a great place to be when it comes to live sports being shown at the pub and there are plenty of screens around the pub. I will be going back to the Malt Shovel and next time out I am going to try the food on offer at the pub. Should be interesting.
