It is located in the old Waterdown, Ontario that is now merged into City of Hamilton. It is a curtain fall that is 10m high and 5m wide. It is beautiful, powerful and breathtaking. To get to the Great Falls, go south on Mills Street North, go under a railway bridge, park at the Smokey Hollow Park on the right. You have arrived at the entrance of a hiking trail that leads to the Great Falls.

It's done through a park kisok. You can use the same parking ticket at Tiffany Falls within around 2 hours or so. The price not too bad for vehicle with at least 3 people. There's lots of parking nearby (compared at Tiffany Falls). If you visit in the afternoon, it's might be a little hard to find a spot.

Do a good deed today. If you have a trash bag in your car, bring it with you and I'll bet you can find a couple of pieces to pack out and dispose of properly. There is a dedicated parking lot at Skyvalley Crescent but it can get busy as it's one of the only ones. The issue with parking is that the neighboring suburbs do not allow for street parking, so it makes parking a little difficult. There are a lot of well maintained and wide trails that people were using for a stroll, bikes (we did see some aggressive bikers so listen for bells), and jogging. Dogs are allowed here as well, as long as they are leashed. There are "non-official" trails that can take you down to the creek - these ones are narrower and not of the brush has been cleared away. To get really close to the water you kind of have to walk through these. There is a payoff during late September and early October as you can see the salmon run! They are a little hard to spot but just wait by areas where there is some rocky elevation in the creek. Those are the choke points where they're normally charging up to make a leap!

The path through the woods is very well marked and easy to follow up it's clear that some folks think it's okay to wander off the path. I stuck to the route and the observation platform. Partly because I'm a rule follow and partly because I'm the clumsy sort that would fall and hurt myself. Leave only footprints, take only photos. There are clean bathroom right at the entrance, the staff maintains the park very well even provide dog bags. There are easy to ready maps everywhere. Terrain: there are different trails that range in various levels of difficulty. The front entrance map provides a details overview of the trail. Some routes are accessible, since do have narrow paths and are more challenging. The park it self features trails, fountains, bridges overlooking falls, multiple look out points, streams & plenty of shade. It's beautiful in the spring, summer & fall. Highly recommend coming by early and enjoying a calming stroll.

The trails are not hard and you can enjoy beautiful views both at the lookout points and of the forest. You also can spot turkey vultures from Buffalo Crag look-out point. It offers different campsites and the most famous trail is the Nassagaweya Canyon trail to Crawford Lake which takes up to 5 hours for a roundtrip. It has 2 parking lots on the upper side and lower side of the park. You need to make a reservation during COVID-19 pandemic (especially for weekends) since they have reduced the capacity.

This is a nice park with lots of hiking trails and lush woods, offering plenty of shades on a sunny day. The only trail that allows you to go down to the creek is #6 Half Moon Valley Trail. I would also recommend #4 Lookout Ravine Trail which is almost completely covered by trees and would be beautiful in the fall. You shouldn't miss the famous White Oak Tree, likely germinated since 1685 and at least 300 years old, close to parking lot A. The Spruce Lane Farmhouse is another highlight near parking lot F, which is a Victorian-style house showing visitors what life was like back then. The antique furniture, well-decorated rooms, farm equipment, and friendly volunteers wearing Victorian costumes gave us an immersive experience at the farm. The only problem is that the amenities are a bit dated, especially with the signage. The park staffs should hand out free maps as you enter the park, and there should be more directions as to where you are. I often had to rely on Google to check location and the pre-downloaded map from their website. The swimming pool remains under renovation as of summer 2024, so the park is not yet at its full potential.
