We arrived on a Friday night without reservations and waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. First, we got a drink by the bar and stood around. Then when seats opened up at the bar, we sat there and ordered two appetizers. Before ordering, I asked one of the bartenders if something was gluten free and she came back with a sheet of paper labeled GLUTEN listing about 25-30 things that were gluten free such as dressings, jambalaya, and egg rolls (which we found out later they are NOT gluten free). I have a picture but I won't share it so that no one is deceived. A few minutes after ordering, we were buzzed that we had moved up the waiting list and to check in. My husband checked in and came to tell me to go to the hostess stand because they are ready to seat us. He went to let the bartender know to send our two appetizers to our table. When I got to the hostess stand, the hostess said that we already had been seated and to just walk upstairs. Even after I explained we had not gotten seated yet because my husband had just checked in, she instructed my party to simply head upstairs and just turn right. We walked upstairs and found a table we assumed we should sit ate. Then when my husband arrived, he went to look for menus because we didn't have any. Ava came by to greet us as our two appetizers of Sauteed Crab Claws and Boudin Egg Rolls arrived. Ava was really friendly and personable. I was so happy the sheet had indicated they are gluten free. I ate half an egg roll and started to suspect it was not gluten free. I flagged down Ava and asked and she said she was pretty sure they were not gluten free. Ava came back to apologize that the egg rolls had been changed and were no longer gluten free, and then are gave me an updated "2026 Gluten-Free Allergy Menu" with a subheader "All items listed are SAFE for you to eat." The egg rolls were no longer listed. For my entree, I ordered the Charbroiled Catfish served over spinach. It came with a salad and apparently a side. I thought my spinach was the side so I didn't ask about my side options and Ava didn't ask me what I wanted as a side. I had a side mixed green salad with no croutons. Surprisingly, everyone's side mixed green salad looked different when they arrived. Mine had croutons. Another had cheese on their mixed greens while another person was served iceberg lettuce. It was very strange. My catfish arrived with French Fries which are not gluten free. I flagged down another waitress who had checked in on us earlier to explain that I wasn't offered a side and that I couldn't eat the French Fries. I asked for cooked veggies and she brought me cauliflower. I thoroughly enjoyed my catfish and cauliflower. Others are the table had the Seafood Lasagna, Seafood Pasta, Charbroiled Oysters, and Crawfish Etouffee. Everyone liked their dishes. The portions are really big. The meal would've been much better if they were better trained on how to handle food allergies. And what the hostess did was not customer friendly at all. We learned from the second server that Ava was in training. Ava did a good job as she was really friendly, attentive, and seemed to genuinely care. I don't think she understood what a gluten allergy was but she followed up when asked to check on the egg rolls.

As a child growing up in New Orleans I remember by grandfather from New Iberia coming to visit frequently. I have a lot of fond memories from his visits, but one of the things I remember is applicable to this review. Whenever he would arrive he would have several gifts for the family. I'm not talking about traditional gifts either. He would bring several packs of boudin and hogs head cheese from a local New Iberia shop. That must have had a lasting effect, because since then, I am on a never ending quest for good boudin and head cheese. I was on such a quest just the other day when I noticed Boudreaux's. The moment I walked in, I knew I was in the right place. There were coolers filled with stuffed chickens, roasts, pork loins, gumbo, étouffée and all other sorts of Cajun delights. In the fresh counter is where I focused my attention and will elaborate on a few items. Boudin - fresh, homemade and with the perfect combination of meat and rice. It had a slight kick, but not to overwhelming. Stuffed chicken thighs - stuffed with jalapeño cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. $375 for around 30 minutes covered and 20 uncovered. Oh my goodness gracious was this delicious. Even if you don't normally like thighs, I strongly recommend this item. Smoked boudin - I don't remember smoked boudin when I was growing up, but what a great idea. Boudreaux's version was perfect. Smoked sausage with pepper jack cheese - whatever you do, but some of this sausage. The sausage is made and smoked in house and this is, without a doubt, the best smoked sausage I've ever had. I don't know how it hod hold up in gumbo or some other dish, but it is amazing on its own. The people working behind the counter were friendly and very helpful. If you're like me and miss the Cajun butcher shops of Acadiana, I recommend you take a trip to Boudreaux's.

Buster's Place 819 E. Boston Street, Covington, Louisiana…read more70433 September 18, 2026 We stopped into Buster's Place while visiting Covington and overall had a very good experience. The restaurant has a cool, casual Louisiana atmosphere, the service was good, and several of the things we ordered were excellent. We had the following: * Dozen raw oysters - $14.99: Very good. The oysters were large, fresh, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. My only complaint was that they were a little skimpy with the cocktail sauce. With oysters this good, a little more cocktail sauce would have been appreciated. * Hot sausage 1/2 po' boy - $7.99: Excellent -- 5 out of 5. Really flavorful and something I would definitely order again. * 1/2 fried oyster po' boy & seafood gumbo combo - $14.99: The fried oyster po' boy was excellent. The oysters were fresh, flavorful, and fried correctly without being overdone. The bread was lightly toasted and it came dressed with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, just as it should. Unfortunately, the gumbo was the weak point. It was extremely thick, almost more like a stew, and really lacked the authentic New Orleans flavor we were hoping for. * Side of jambalaya - $4.99: It was okay, but nothing special. This was a brown jambalaya, and we personally prefer the red style, so this one just wasn't really to our taste. * Sweet tea - $3.29. The food subtotal was $46.25, with the total coming to $52.50 after the supplemental fee and tax. Overall, Buster's Place earns a solid four stars. The raw oysters and both po' boys were excellent, especially the hot sausage po' boy. The gumbo and jambalaya didn't quite measure up to the rest of the meal, but the good service, nice atmosphere, and quality of the oysters and sandwiches more than made up for it. We would definitely return the next time we're in Covington.

I was glad I found this spot on yelp, and I was more than happy to try it out. They have plenty of food to choose from, and it is kinda hard if you don't really know what to get. So I played it save with the smoked chicken thighs, and tried out the boudin sandwich. The chicken seemed thigh was so cheap I didn't believe it, for a pice that by itself filled me up. The Boudin sandwich was a good meal also by itself, you got to eat it fast though. I took my time, and it became a bit too soggy. I loved the experience though. The store looks like a big meat market, not too fancy, but this is a place to get your meat, and not for a romantic date. Maybe you do, when you're from Louisiana. j/k
