Had some of my kids old school books that they paid me $9.00 for. They are quick and save us some room on our shelves.

I love visiting HPB. I usually make the pilgrimage here at least once a quarter. I rarely read hard copies of books anymore, but I still enjoy visiting bookstores, especially the quirky Half Price Books retailer. In addition to books, they have records, games and gifts. My most recent visit was to see about a birthday gift for someone. However, I ended up purchasing a couple of audiobooks on CD for my cross country drives. The store is well laid out and books are grouped according to subject matter. Signs are large, clear and easily read from most areas of the store. They used to have a few lounge chairs so you could sit and enjoy your time there, but I don't recall seeing them since the pandemic started. Masks are required even though the state mandate has been lifted. You can even sell back your books, records and CDs; although, I don't think they pay cash, and it certainly won't be for a lot of money. Instead, you will get a store credit that you can use towards the purchase of something else. Not a bad deal if you frequent the store often.

The service seemed to be ok at first until the book I tried to sell for maybe $5 received an offer for 50 cents!!! That's a 99% markup so if I were you, go somewhere else because it's a huge waste of everyone's time. The book was brand new and is actually $19.99, buy from the clearance section to avoid paying too much for anything. The selection is limited and the prices are too high. It's a book, so why are they lowballing everyone...just buy off eBay or online anywhere else.

20% off total purchase through Dec 29

Half Price Books is currently having a holiday special, take 20% off your entire purchase, now through Dec 29 (also available on line as well). After checking out the flagship store yesterday evening, I decided to check out this location with my husband and our little girl dog (yes all Half Price Book locations are very dog friendly!). I actually am annoyed with myself for not buying a book at the flagship store last night, thinking it would be cheaper on Amazon, but with the 20% off discount, the price still beat Amazon. This location is their newer location in Texas, located in a plaza off the freeway, a few doors down from Party City. This location is specifically located next door to Udipi Cafe (Indian vegetarian restaurant). We came in after 3:20 pm and the place was not crowded. We were greeted right away and asked if we needed help finding anything. My husband and our little sat down on one of the chairs by the entrance while I browsed the store (this location is definitely not as big as the flagship store, but still was excited to wander the aisles). Actually, while I walked around, a few employees in the store smiled at me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I ended up purchasing my book and then made my way to the register (please note that best sellers currently are 20% off, which you can take an additional 20% off with the special sale... which makes for an excellent score for your bank account). The employee at the register was nice while he took care of my transaction. Just a few things to point out if you come here, the restrooms are towards the back of the store (the ladies restroom was clean upon this visit and adequately stocked with the essentials). Also the clearance section is towards the back of the store (right next to the restroom). The clearance section here had more new books versus the clearance section at the flagship store (in Dallas, off of Northwest Hwy). Although a smaller section, I thought this clearance section had more variety of books than the other location (but I am sure with this section, it is a hit or miss). And of course, there is free WiFi in case you wish to price compare and/ or check out book reviews (I like to read the reviews on goodreads.com for some input on books I am possibly considering). Currently, right now, Christmas books (located at the front of the store, by the registers) are an additional 50% off (even cheaper with their current 20% off special). Stop by if you are a lover of books (if you are not, please stop looking at the screen and pick up a book and R-E-A-D something to keep your mind engaged) and get lost in the shelves of the many genres that this store offers.

This store has a nice feel to the place. Friendly staff and more comicsbook stuff then normal which is cool for me. Found some good hard cover I needed for my collection. Just want to add that this store is what I look for in a HPB store, thanks.

They got signs. Be careful what aisle you walk down!

I just love this store! It's better then going to the library. So many choices! They have hardback books, paperbacks, and my favorite, books on DVD's. Perfect for when you're stuck in Dallas traffic or any traffic for that matter! There is a super huge store on North West highway, you'll need a good half-a-day to go through all the different sections of books they have there. I'm not kidding, there are a lot. That's always a bit of a drive so I tend to go to the stores that are located close to me. I got a coupon in the mail for one item at 40% off. So I made sure I visited a bookstore close by to take advantage of the discount. I'll have to visit another store on Sunday since I have another coupon for 50% off. All you have to do to take advantage of the discount is give them your email or mailing address. Well worth the discount. They have a section that is dedicated to gamers. They also have an area dedicated for comic book fanatics. They have lots of reading material to catch up on at great prices. Always treasures to be found in a book store. 2017/41

Great shop with an eclectic vibe. Friendly staff and a nice variety of both new and used items. Books, vinyl, CD's, movies, games, toys, etc. They have it all. I went today to sell a bunch of used books, and ended up buying a new deck of cards as well. Places like these are a nice change of pace when placed against the "digital world". Stop in and have a look around, I'm sure you will find something you can't live without.

one of the bigger selections of romance out of the half price books I've been to! I found quite a few that I've been hunting for!

Is there free wifi? A place to sit and study/read?

Hi Johanna, our locations do provide public wifi but seating is limited in our stores due to social distancing. Please give your local store a call to ask about their particular seating options. ~AH

I have been shopping at Half Price Books for most of my book-buying life. I remember shopping here…read moreall through high school, and I've continued to shop here when I return to Dallas (my hometown) for visits. To sum up my review, Half Price Books ruined me for all other used bookstores. Since leaving Dallas, I've lived in 6 other cities. While some had some pretty decent used bookstores (others not so much), none even come close to HPB. It was one of the many things I took for granted growing up in Texas/Dallas. I thought all cities had stores as large and well-stocked as HPB until I left. Most cities (even large ones) just don't. I've been shopping at HPB since the early 2000s (maybe the 1990s, too), but it's been open since 1972, and this Northwest Highway location is the original - its flagship store. It's huge. In a world with fewer and fewer bookstores (thanks, Amazon), bookstores have also gotten tinier and tinier (some are about the size of postage stamps now, but I'm still happy to visit and support them!). Not HPB. This location is 54,000 square feet. 54,000 square feet!!! There's a coffeeshop (La Casita Coffee at HPB), a large community space (where they host signings and author events, live music, and a monthly game night), and tons of places to sit, read, study, etc. (I should point out that not all Half Price Books locations are THIS large. Most - and I've shopped at a lot of other locations across Texas - are still pretty large stores, but this flagship location is massive. Founded in Dallas, many - 37 - of their 100+ stores are in Texas.) The store is also incredibly well stocked, housing more than half million books and then tons of movies, vinyl, CDs, games, and other items. When I say well-stocked, they have more books than this bibliophile can even process, including tons of mass market paperbacks, rare books, art/photograph books, and more. If you're looking for a classic, they'll have 40 copies (I was looking for an anthology of plays by Eugene O'Neill with a certain play included when I visited this past Saturday, had had about 10 options - and that's for a play not included in the larger anthologies). If you're looking for something rarer, they still might have it. But it's also a great place to browse - to come not knowing what you want. On my most recent visit this past weekend, I left with 3 or 4 books - two I wasn't really looking for and 1 I was. I also grabbed a coffee with my family in the cafe. If you have books you need to sell, this is the place. There's an area in the back where they'll take your books and then you can shop while they review. Then they'll call you up over the speaker in the bookstore when they have an offer for you. Don't expect a lot of money per book, but it's a great way to pass along a book you're done with to get something new to read. I can't say enough about this location of Half Price Books. I've loved it for more than half my life, and it's still the used bookstore I measure all others against. If you love a bookstore, you simply have to shop at this flagship store.

I absolutely love this location and could spend hours on end roaming the aisles with my TBR list…read more Whether you're searching for a new title off the NYT's Bestseller List or one from five years ago, it's more than likely here. Music, games, DVDs and rare titles/collectible items have huge sections, as well. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly; especially those in the Buy Back area! There is plenty of quiet space tucked away for workday tasks or a quick Zoom meeting and you can even bring your puppy (on a leash, of course). There's an attached coffee shop for sustenance and nice, clean bathrooms, too.

The first time I went there, it was admittedly a bit overwhelming as it took me an hour or so just to get a grasp on the lay of the land. DVT really shines with vintage Star Wars and GI Joe '70s and '80s figures, vehicles, and playsets - both loose, on card and in box. It's just as much of an art gallery as it is a retail business. DTV has a dedicated room of officially graded toys if you're looking very top of the line, several thousand dollars in value. And it also has loose complete Star Wars figures you can buy for $24.99, depending on the character. I really enjoy re-releases of my favorite toys growing up, and often prefer commemorative editions so I can enjoy the nostalgia without the heavy financial investment, and DVT has good finds of later releases. There's so much variety. If you don't prefer figures, you might score an item like the Yoda puppet from Empire Strikes Back or other merchandise you don't see all the time. While DVT makes its high-value offerings visible, you might very well dig up some treasure in the aisles as you browse. This past weekend, I came across the Hot Toys Jack Nicholson '89 Joker 1/6 scale figure - an undeniable Grail. It was just hanging out in the Batman section on the shelf with the rest. I forced myself not to look in the box and walk away as I've never seen it in person - I knew I would fall in love. It's $500 I don't have to explain to my wife! While I have purchased a few things from DTV, I am not familiar with the experience of selling a collection there. In the late 90s/early 2000s, I sold many of my old figures to a similar establishment and really regret it. What I will say is that Shaun and his staff are readily available for advice and to bounce ideas off of, and so, if you want to sell, it's definitely worth consulting with them. Just know you very well could get a third of what you perceive your collection to be worth - and that's anywhere. These businesses need to eat and pay bills just like the rest of us! If you haven't been to this nostalgia museum, take some time to relax, know your spending limits before walking in, and enjoy. May the Force Be With You!

They have an excellent array of new toy collectibles, vintage toys, parts, grab bags, MOC, video games, reissues, comics, lunchboxes, etc... etc... One thing that really pleases me about this place is that since I started going there a few years ago, they've expanded their girl-centric vintage toys. I've purchased many pink box Barbies from them for my collection. I feel like their prices are fair when you compare costs to the same items on eBay which is kind of exploitative to sellers anyway. I haven't sold anything to DVT yet, but I feel like I could trust that they would be fair. I think it's important to understand what DVT specializes in and not walk in expecting to sell them just anything and get a pretty penny for it. They do a great job of organizing and displaying everything as well and they keep their social media updated daily with new merchandise. They also have celebrity meet and greets too which is fun and they also have the occasional sidewalk sale (so sad I missed the last one). I really can't understand why anyone would rate DVT low. It's an amazing place.
