I visited here with a friend and honestly didn't know what to expect at first. I thought the name might just be a cute gimmick for a bookstore, but the selection completely surprised me. There was a huge variety of books and an impressive selection of games as well. The overall atmosphere was what really stood out. It wasn't overly "designed" or fancy, but it had such a warm, welcoming vibe. Everyone seemed relaxed and happy--almost like stepping into a little utopian pocket of calm. Even the staff were incredibly friendly. The cashier chatted with us about different sections and recommended a book because we looked like we were enjoying ourselves. It felt playful, social, and genuinely fun. The store was very well organized too. Nothing seemed out of place, which made browsing easy. There were maybe 15-20 customers while we were there, but because the space is large it didn't feel crowded at all. At the same time, it was nice that there were other people around--sometimes being the only customer in a store can feel awkward. The pricing on games was another pleasant surprise. Some were as low as $6-$7, and a few were even sealed, which you almost never see at that price. I'm not sure exactly how their inventory system works, but the deals were great. Location-wise it's super convenient--right off the highway with plenty of parking. Overall, it was a top-tier experience and a genuinely fun outing. If you're visiting Dallas, especially with kids, this would be a great stop. It looks like a chain, so I'm curious if other locations have the same vibe, but based on this visit I would absolutely recommend it and would definitely go back. read more

I will never hate on half price books so that's why I'm not giving them any less than 5 stars. BUT...BUT! My issue is with their buying your books concept. I showed up here with a huge duffel back filled with brand new books- I've been cleaning out my closet and decided why not get some money for these anyway-- I read on my iPad now (I know, I'm sorry.) The guy at the desk was super nice and helpful-- explained the process of how it works: -They scan each book in their system and the computer basically tells them how much each book is valued. I didn't wait that long until they called my name and I'm thinking "ok, I'm at least gonna get like 90$ for these..." NOPE! The huge duffel bag filled with books was worth to them... Ready for it? $12.87!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Insane. I'm sorry but that is such a scam. I will always love half price books, I spent a lot of time in the one off Northwest Highway as a kid and got all my books from there. But this was just extremely sad. I know for a fact if I said ok, that's fine, they would turn around and sell EACH BOOK for AT LEAST $9.99. Don't waste your time lugging a heavy bag filled with books. Just keep them or sell online. Good selection and options/ pricing for a variety of items. Locations as great for our needs. Staff was lukewarm, but did hand out discount books when we went at the holidays. Overall we will be back, but liked the online option for the most recent purchase to find a specific book! I think just going to get something new this is great, but trying to find a specific book or media could leave you let down if they don't have it onsite. read more

For that reason, shopping here is kind of like shopping at a little less expensive Barnes and Noble. If you want anything else but popular fiction, the selection isn't great. For example, there's a huge section on Christianity, but there are maybe a few small shelves with books about other religions. I love visiting HPB. I usually make the pilgrimage here at least once a quarter. I rarely read hard copies of books anymore, but I still enjoy visiting bookstores, especially the quirky Half Price Books retailer. In addition to books, they have records, games and gifts. My most recent visit was to see about a birthday gift for someone. However, I ended up purchasing a couple of audiobooks on CD for my cross country drives. The store is well laid out and books are grouped according to subject matter. Signs are large, clear and easily read from most areas of the store. They used to have a few lounge chairs so you could sit and enjoy your time there, but I don't recall seeing them since the pandemic started. Masks are required even though the state mandate has been lifted. You can even sell back your books, records and CDs; although, I don't think they pay cash, and it certainly won't be for a lot of money. Instead, you will get a store credit that you can use towards the purchase of something else. Not a bad deal if you frequent the store often. read more

The service seemed to be ok at first until the book I tried to sell for maybe $5 received an offer for 50 cents!!! That's a 99% markup so if I were you, go somewhere else because it's a huge waste of everyone's time. The book was brand new and is actually $19.99, buy from the clearance section to avoid paying too much for anything. The selection is limited and the prices are too high. It's a book, so why are they lowballing everyone...just buy off eBay or online anywhere else. read more

This is one of the nicer Half Price Books locations in DFW, both in terms of their offerings and the appearance of the store. I stop in periodically to see what's new in their tabletop role playing game and science fiction sections. The prices on older finds are getting higher than I'd like but I usually find something good I don't have to sell a kidney to afford. I appreciated the advice from a store employee who found out I was interested in the Pathfinder RPG and recommended a set of Adventure Path modules to run for my players. read more

Half Price Books is currently having a holiday special, take 20% off your entire purchase, now through Dec 29 (also available on line as well). After checking out the flagship store yesterday evening, I decided to check out this location with my husband and our little girl dog (yes all Half Price Book locations are very dog friendly!). I actually am annoyed with myself for not buying a book at the flagship store last night, thinking it would be cheaper on Amazon, but with the 20% off discount, the price still beat Amazon. This location is their newer location in Texas, located in a plaza off the freeway, a few doors down from Party City. This location is specifically located next door to Udipi Cafe (Indian vegetarian restaurant). We came in after 3:20 pm and the place was not crowded. We were greeted right away and asked if we needed help finding anything. My husband and our little sat down on one of the chairs by the entrance while I browsed the store (this location is definitely not as big as the flagship store, but still was excited to wander the aisles). Actually, while I walked around, a few employees in the store smiled at me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I ended up purchasing my book and then made my way to the register (please note that best sellers currently are 20% off, which you can take an additional 20% off with the special sale... which makes for an excellent score for your bank account). The employee at the register was nice while he took care of my transaction. Just a few things to point out if you come here, the restrooms are towards the back of the store (the ladies restroom was clean upon this visit and adequately stocked with the essentials). Also the clearance section is towards the back of the store (right next to the restroom). The clearance section here had more new books versus the clearance section at the flagship store (in Dallas, off of Northwest Hwy). Although a smaller section, I thought this clearance section had more variety of books than the other location (but I am sure with this section, it is a hit or miss). And of course, there is free WiFi in case you wish to price compare and/ or check out book reviews (I like to read the reviews on goodreads.com for some input on books I am possibly considering). Currently, right now, Christmas books (located at the front of the store, by the registers) are an additional 50% off (even cheaper with their current 20% off special). Stop by if you are a lover of books (if you are not, please stop looking at the screen and pick up a book and R-E-A-D something to keep your mind engaged) and get lost in the shelves of the many genres that this store offers. read more

I just love this store! It's better then going to the library. So many choices! They have hardback books, paperbacks, and my favorite, books on DVD's. Perfect for when you're stuck in Dallas traffic or any traffic for that matter! There is a super huge store on North West highway, you'll need a good half-a-day to go through all the different sections of books they have there. I'm not kidding, there are a lot. That's always a bit of a drive so I tend to go to the stores that are located close to me. I got a coupon in the mail for one item at 40% off. So I made sure I visited a bookstore close by to take advantage of the discount. I'll have to visit another store on Sunday since I have another coupon for 50% off. All you have to do to take advantage of the discount is give them your email or mailing address. Well worth the discount. They have a section that is dedicated to gamers. They also have an area dedicated for comic book fanatics. They have lots of reading material to catch up on at great prices. Always treasures to be found in a book store. 2017/41 read more

Great shop with an eclectic vibe. Friendly staff and a nice variety of both new and used items. Books, vinyl, CD's, movies, games, toys, etc. They have it all. I went today to sell a bunch of used books, and ended up buying a new deck of cards as well. Places like these are a nice change of pace when placed against the "digital world". I took a brand new set of the paperback Game of Thrones collection into this store, still wrapped in the plastic. I got them for Christmas, and wanted to trade them in for some cash, along with 7 other slightly used books that I've had for a few years. I gave them to the lady at the desk, and then proceeded to browse around while they processed my books. I was called back, and the lady offered me $7 for everything. Absolutely ridiculous. The GOT books alone retail for over $30, and were obviously brand new. The other books I was expecting at least $2 a piece. This location is lowballed and greedy. Won't be coming in here again. read more

This is a great location just off of Belt line and 75. Located in the shopping center by Alamo Draft House and Taco Joint, this store is in an up and coming area of town. The store is organized and open. I love that they have chairs scattered throughout the store. It makes it more comfortable to sit and wait while you sell your books or browse. They have multiple locations in the DFW area, but this has to be one of my favorite stores. It's just walking distance from restaurants and the Alamo Drafthouse, so it's a frequent stop when I'm in the area. HPB sells almost everything you can think of. Books, board games, movies, vinyl records, and even video games! The prices are always super cheap compared to other book stores, and there's always a good chance you'll find what you're looking for. Don't be afraid to ask the staff for directions or to help you find anything. They're always super helpful and nice! Read on y'all! read more

This location is severely overpriced. Most of their items are marked up way higher than you would find elsewhere, such as online or even in a retail store. If you are going into this store for the collection of rare Funko Pops they have, please use Pop Price Guide & check the prices the pops are worth. HPB has the pops marked up 3x's their value. Heck they have some items still available on Funko-Shop for $15, priced at $25-$35. Just go elsewhere if you are a collector, because honestly it seems like they just want to sit on their inventory forever. read more

Let me first say that I love half price books they're a great company. I went into the new location and was immediately asked if I needed help which I did. He was helping another customer which was fine. He got on the phone and asked someone to come to the front and help. He looked up the books I needed and they happened to have all three! I also bought four records some classical and big band all for 50 cents each. 2$ for 4 records and my three books all cost 16.24$ now that's an excellent value. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Typical store, nice enough and I know you don't get rich taking in used books, but the guy was SO cheap and offered me 50 cents for 7 clean, recent trade copies and hardbacks--very rude and insulting. I've gone to HPB for years and have never gotten such a low-ball offer. I'd rather donate the books to a school or library than accept his change! Why don't they just give credit instead of pennies? This is pretty nice store that they move here from Central and Campbell road store. Very clean and fresh wood smell with lots of good books and next to Indian supermarket and snack store call Taj Mahal imports, Alamo draft movie hall, Haystack burger and few other stores. read more

This is my favorite of the Half Price Book stores. The selection is great and feels less picked over like the Northwest Highway store can feel at times. They have one of the larger used boardgame selections in the area and loads of records. The location is also great. Plenty of restaurants and the Alamo Drafthouse right next door. read more

This is a new location for HPB at the southwest corner of Belt Line and 75. We enjoyed shopping here this evening. Store is spacious, clean and well-lit. Everything is organized and neat. Went here to kill time before the movie I was seeing at the Alamo Drafthouse and sooo glad I did. My father bought an old PS2 for my niece and nephew at a garage sale because he remembered how much my sister and I loved it. Well went in here and they had such a huge selection of games. I nearly cried seeing the old titles I played such as SSX3, Pacman and Wheel of Fortune here! I stocked up on games and books for them. Got to the register and they had a "Buy $25 worth of stuff and get a free tote" promotion which I reached! This location has an abundance of new vinyls from popular artists such as Adele and kids toys as well. It is spacious, clean and the staff is very helpful. So glad I came. read more

After the "Godfather" on NWY, this is my favorite HPB. It's laid out well for it's size..the shelves are a little high, but when you've got limited space it's a neccesity. They've got a good selection of everything.. Well not as much as NWY, but let's face it NOTHING is as big as NWY. If I'm in the neighborhood I always stop in. Love HPB and visit locations all over the city. For whatever reason at this one - on vinyl Records -they've marked up used vinyl by at least 30% more than any other location. Some they've marked up by 150%. Just saw a Beach Boys record in the locked collectible bin for $40 that is easily found just about anywhere for $4-8 in excellent condition. Just one example and many many more throughout their inventory. I like the store but not friendly for vinyl lovers. read more
