Service...there is no happy people working there Selection....good Value....not worth selling books there.....or buying....donate... People are rude....even buying or selling they think they are doing you a big favor... You can buy most "new" books that are actually old, that are cheaper on Amazon... They sure won't care that I will never go in that place again.... IMO, if you don't buy a lot of books there, they will put a real cheap $$$ on the ones you sell.... read more

Very disappointed at the service I received. While looking for a book I was approached by an employee who rudely told me to move so that she could access books. All staff were very terse and acted displeased toward me. Never have a I felt more disrespected as a customer! read more

I love the Half Price Books franchise so I don't enjoy writing this review. Many of the Appleton employees forget they work in customer service. We're gone there since it opened and have NEVER seen one particular employee smile at any customer EVER. They seem to have fallen under the delusion that working at a used bookstore makes them hip & cool. Sorry, but that isn't true when you work in North Central Wisconsin. Their prices seem way off the mark, especially when compared to the other WI HPBs in Milwaukee and Madison. And the money they give when you sell your items is the lowest between the 3 locations in Appleton and Milwaukee (we tested). BUT... they are, sadly, the only real used bookstore in town (hence the 3 stars). read more

I have been to this book store on many occasions. They rarely have the item I am looking for, which is frustrating. Yes, when you ask at the counter, they can order it... but Often times I wait til the last minute and need that book NOW. HPB is typically my second choice of bookstores. My #1 place is also reviewed and scores VERY high. This place always seems to be disappointing to me. But my review is for last nights walk inside. I came with my mom, who was very excited to find a new book store (she doesn't get to this side of town often) She picked out 2-3 books and went to pay. The price tags on the books said "4.99" and "3.99" She went to the counter and the cashier told her that those were not their stickers and they wouldn't honor those prices. She then told her That she had to pay the balance off of the publishers price, which was 7.99 and (I cant remember the other price) My mom told them they should honor the price of the sticker if they are not going to take the time to peel the stickers off. I agree wholeheartedly. The cashier however, did not. And not only did she not agree... she was very rude about not agreeing. My mom paid for her items and said "this is crazy, you can't charge people more when you have stickers on for less. For this reason, I wont be back" The other cashier who was next to the lady rolled her eyes and audibly mocked my mother. In front of her. So, have I had ok experiences here before? Yes. Tho it is hit or miss. Will I be back and recommend them to others? Absolutely not. I don't expect people to bend over backwards for their customers at all times, but to not honor prices that are on the books they sell, is quite ridiculous. So if you come to this store... good luck finding the books you need, and paying the price you are expecting to pay. read more

Great selection and service. Always a friendly staff. Sometimes I think the prices could be better on newer releases.

There really is no better place to find great deals on books, music, movies and really any other type of media. The inventory is fresh and changes often enough that you don't get bored of stopping in weekly. It's a great place to not only buy, but sell as well. You can bring in your old books, movies, etc.. and receive cash for them. It's usually not much, but it's a good way to clear out space and get a few bucks in your pocket. A pleasant atmosphere rattles throughout the building and the staff is top-notch. The place maintains a clean look and, unlike many other used book stores, a fresh smell. Half Price Books is an excellent discount book store. The location is right and they have very accommodating hours. I would highly recommend stopping in! read more

I really am enthused about this store. Having lived in Dallas for many years, I utilized the "Flag-Ship" Store, but find the selection and variety just as interesting in this store. The main difference is that in the Appleton Store the personnel are so friendly, helpful and courteous. Tuesday drove down from Green Bay with a huge collection of CDs, books, and DVDs and the personnel helped cart all into the store and then quickly started their appraising and when completed they even helped tear down the boxes we used for transport. I love this place in my efforts to down-size in my "ancient" years. Plus they now carry new bestsellers (never used) at good prices. Enjoy. read more

I like this store because book or dvd are less then a different store sometime.!! I like go to this place sometime you find a lot of stuff and sometime you want a book that they Don't have,then you find something you like!! There is little to complain, besides the basic comments: "It didn't have what I was looking for." "There should be more books and movies to choose from." "The prices are a little high for some items." As far as these things can be true, the store is great at finding generally what you want. You might not find exactly what you are looking for, but what store does. You don't get a lot for selling, but they are always buying books, movies, etc. Plus, you get cash for what you sell, never credit. You can find good deals on an array of media. The staff is also excellent; there might be times when they get short with you, but that is okay. They get all kinds of customers. read more

Great selection of books and music. The staff was very helpful in helping me find all the books I needed. I was really impressed by the selection of games and especially vintage games they had for sale. I like to collect vintage games and Half Price Books has a large selection. read more

9 boxes of books and we got less than $25 for them. I should have loaded them back up and donated them. I couldn't help but feel that I was being ripped off. I w see how much they get for them donating these books. read more

I understand that they have to pay for electricity and rent, and pay their staff but I have still been incredibly disappointed at the prices they offer for your books. If you're facing starvation then sell to them. Otherwise, do yourself a favor. And they want your telephone number so they have a record of what prices you'll take or you won't. read more

Half Price Books is my go-to book store! I'm a quick reader, and go through books fast. I enjoy being able to own the book. They almost always have the books I want. When they don't, you can put in an order. They will ship the book to the store and call you to get it. The books are usually in great shape. The store itself has a home like feel. It's cozy in this store. It's fairly neat, but sometimes a bit messy. The staff is always kind and helpful. I buy most of my books here and will continue to shop here! read more

This is a bibliophile's version of a Scavenger Hunt in Heaven. The prices are great, the customer service is excellent. I have spent hours browsing and choosing the next great 'find'. There are books, albums, CDs, calendars, etc etc etc. The variety of products is huge and the inventory changes continually. Suggest signing up for the email list to get the coupons. If you are a trivia buff, try to answer the trivia question posted on the wall behind the buy counter. You could win a 15% coupon! This used to be a great place to sell your used books. But my 30 year old son went in to sell 3 books today and was told they reserve the right to make him provide proof of ownership, like a receipt. Let's face it, no one keeps receipts for every book they bought over the years. They just didn't want to buy from him. I used to go here a lot, but they just lost a regular customer. He needed the money and was discrimiated against for some reason or another. Never going here again!!! read more

Good store for buying books, Horrible place to sell. The sellers scam people out of $ when you bring books in. I brought in at least 20-30 books in perfect condition and was offere maybee $10.00. Other used book places in the area pay 2 3 or 4 $ per book. Here your lucky to get $1.00 or $.50 for that matter. When confronted with this question the sellers would not listen to there own customer and said I had to leave. Dont trust this store when selling books., read more
