I was visiting Chicago for the week for work and found this gem of a yoga studio. Loved the whole experience from texting staff with questions (super responsive), getting signed up, and taking the actual class (I took the vinyasa flow class and loved it - the teacher was amazing!). The studio itself is welcoming and has such a great vibe. They provide the mats and water (or hot tea if that's your jam). They even gave me a little welcome gift which was a very thoughtful added touch. I only wish this studio was close to my home! Joining a new studio is always a little nerve-racking for me, but my introduction to Half Moon has been great. The teachers are all very kind and focus on creating warm and non-judgmental environments. I particularly love the Zen + Sound, Half Moon and Wild Thing classes. Shout out to Afsoon, Emma and Mara for being some of the best teachers and guides I've had in yoga. I love the emphasis on breath too (specifically when it's heavy) because it never feels like the room is holding themselves in--we're prompted to release and to let go, which in turn normalizes the heavier breathing that comes with vinyasas or more challenging postures. A note for Wild Thing: it's described as the most challenging class, and while it was, I've never experienced anything like it. We were all laughing as we guided our bodies through the different postures, and Mara was an amazing teacher! I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up, but she gave a million modifications, checked in with each individual at the start of class, and the energy was extremely welcoming! A super welcoming place, the owner herself handed me a welcome gift which included a mini lotion and face mask. I greatly appreciate how there are a variety of types of classes and many different instructors, each with their own styles; you can find a class to fit whatever mood you are in or whatever you're looking for! Instructors change their flows all the time so things are always fresh, keeping me interested and challenged both physically and mentally. I have been attending classes here at least once a week for over a year. As a newbie to yoga, I started with a yoga101 workshop (which isn't a regular class but I love them!), but I would have felt welcome in any class. I started with the reduced price unlimited membership and moved to the mini membership. Every teacher has good instruction and a beginner could really try any class. My favorite is Glow with Lauren or Nikki - can be challenging but still a focus on breath to movement and a good flow. Zen and the Zen/Exhale/Sound Saturday class is such a treat when I am extra stressed. I've also enjoyed Half Moon and Reset classes. Highly recommend this place! So cozy and Val, the owner, is the sweetest. Yoga has changed my life physically and mentally - the mental health aspect is huge, and most classes make sure to give time for a proper meditation at the beginning and savasana at the end. Yoga has always been my "white whale" something I felt was unattainable for me. Either I felt intimidated by the women in class with lumber bodies that seem to gracefully do every pose or I didn't see myself in the instructors. I would go months or years without trying yoga again for the umpteenth time thigh I know the benefits are so useful. In the fitness community I belong to, Half moon was the studio of the month and I happened to be in town to try it and boy am I glad I did. The studio space is beautiful and so welcoming. The ZEN class I took was awesome and a class I didn't know how much I needed. After going to Half Moon for almost a year, I can say that they offer a wide variety of classes that are adjustable for your individual needs or yoga experience level. I have introduced at least five people to Half Moon, and they all agree on this and enjoy Half Moon. Even if you only take one of the class formats, you will never be bored. The most impactful aspect of the studio is how you can clearly feel the intention of welcoming and compassion from teachers, students, staff, and the space itself. A few things that contribute to this are the complementary tea and hot chocolate, natural space for conversation before and after class, optional silent mediation before class, and dim cozy design of the studio. I feel immediately comforted and centered coming in. I always leave feeling lighter and more aligned, physically and mentally. read more

I'm so surprised not to see more reviews for Half Moon already on Yelp, but I really cannot say enough good things about this studio. It is so rare in 2025 to find a kind and inclusive community, but that's what Val and her wonderful team have managed to build at Half Moon. The place is also serene and gorgeous, and I've always had a seamless experience booking classes and workshops. There's tea and water, and mats, bolsters, and props already either set up or easily available. The classes themselves are fantastic, of course. I really can't recommend Half Moon highly enough. Best way to start a Saturday in Chicago!!! While visiting my daughter in Chicago I had the pleasure of visiting Half Moon Yoga! My daughter recently celebrated completing her 110th class with Half moon & has been singing their praises for months. I was thrilled when she said a spot opened up so I could join her for a Saturday morning class. From the moment I walked in I was made to feel special with a personal welcome sign & special gift bag made by a local entrepreneur. Just started going here and I'm already hooked! The studio is so lovely and everyone is very friendly. I've taken a couple morning classes so far and it's just the best way to start your day. Mats are provided(very nice ones too!) so all you have to bring is yourself. They have different classes for different skill levels; my favorite is GLOW with Caroline, she's such a great instructor with a great flow! Finding a yoga studio to practice at during my travels is so important , but with the prospect of relocating to Chicago, finding the right one is even more paramount. I am so grateful I found Half Moon Yoga on my most recent long visit to Chicago. Val, the owner is incredible...Prior to my visit she communicated with me, answering all my queries with so much patience! Upon entering the studio, Val greeted me with a genuine smile and so much warmth. Yogis entering were all greeted by their name adding to the community feel of the studio. Additionally, yogis were all types (age, body type, fitness level) making the feel of the studio inclusive. Stepping through the lush curtains into the main studio, chill music was playing. Mats and props were already laid out on the floor for you to choose your spot to practice. The studio was incredibly calming and zen with beautiful dim lighting willing me to relax. During my visit I attended a variety of classes and thoroughly enjoyed them all. From zen (a restorative, chill class) to glow (a flowy vinyasa-type class). I discovered the Half Moon Yoga studio while staying in a hotel nearby during a work assignment. I signed up the next day. Val, the owner, was very welcoming and kind, and made me immediately feel at home. I took as many classes as I could while in Chicago. The classes were truly the highlights of my days there. The whole atmosphere of this studio is wonderful. The studio is very tastefully arranged. The teachers are all great. The workout selection is great, too. They have slower classes, and faster, more challenging classes, something for everyone. The teachers play wonderful music during the classes, which makes the classes even more magical. They have the mats, blocks, straps, etc. all available, which was phenomenal for me, as a visitor. One of the last classes I took was with Val.
