Vibes: secluded, quiet, charming B&B…read more The stay at Valley View: - The spacious lanai provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Lawai Valley. Absolutely enjoyed reclining in the lounge chairs (one has a mosquito net) and snacking at the table with a cup of coffee in hand while soaking in the greenery and sounds of nature (mostly rooster crows) - Appreciated being able to use the washer/dryer as well as borrow snorkel equipment, beach chairs and towels - Loved that Alexis kept a well-stocked fridge and snack bar for guests easily accessible from our room. - Wished we had the chance to use the pool! - Appreciated the light housekeeping while we were gone each day The breakfast: - Served 7:30-9ish on the common lanai - Comprised a self-serve bar replete with fresh cut fruit, local granola, hot drip coffee, homemade bread and pastries as well as an entree created by Alexis Other notes: - Alexis is the most gracious and generous host. She made sure we had supplies to pack out snacks, provided maps for trails, offered showers even after check-out time so that we could make the most out of our trip all the way to the very end. - Thankful for Robbie, the activities coordinator, for providing tips on local snorkeling and arranging our ATV tour. - The property is just a short drive from Poipu Beach Impression: one of the greatest gems of Kauai, will never choose to stay anywhere else when we visit!

Reached out to the property manager and they said everything was working fine before we walked in the door??? Took them 18 hours (8:51 p.m. to 3:03 p.m) to fix it so we didn't have a working toilet through the night. I had to find a bucket on my own to use to fill with water and get it to flush. We also could walk about 8-10 minutes down to the beach and use those filthy toilets or ask the local restaurants. Next issue was a concern of our privacy in the bathroom. There was a large hole in the wall (partially covered with a picture) and I mean LARGE that led to a closet/storage area. If someone was in the closet, they could see directly into the shower. The hole was big enough to where someone could tip the picture out and literally grab you. Pictures attached. When I raised this with the property manager (who you never actually see on site), they simply said that nobody was in the closet so don't worry about it. Lastly was the bathroom was disgusting. More pictures attached. I asked for a partial refund and they said they would mail us a check (even asked for the mailing address). No check ever arrived and they stopped responding to my follow-ups.

He claims we "No Showed", but we clearly showed up and stood face to face with him as he fumbled through an explanation as to why it was our fault that he rented our room to someone else. VRBO failed to honor their rental guarantee which states we 'have the right to enter the rental for the ENTIRE duration of our rental term'. Throughout the process of trying to get a refund, Pete repeatedly sent multiple inappropriate text messages to my wife telling her to "F$#% You"... "Sh@# Head". He only stopped after we filed a harassment report with Kauai Police. We are considering pressing charges. Pete is very two faced and what he says to in front of you is not how he feels or what he thinks about you when he is behind a computer screen. Don't let him SCAM or BULLY YOU. GO ELSEWHERE

It's very peaceful and beautiful. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Cathy but Bill was very kind. The Mango room had plenty of space. Great stay overall, with a few highlights slash special notations…read more 1. This is not your traditional B&B in that you are served breakfast in the morning around a huge table with a local host. Perhaps better--this place is literally a one-bedroom apartment. No formal breakfast in the morning, but... 2. With a kitchenette (i.e., no stove or oven), you can literally make whatever you want for breakfast (just not fried eggs--don't do what we did & buy a dozen eggs from the store, ya can't cook em). But wish a full size fridge, a microwave, and a toaster oven, you can get pretty creative & make one helluva meal before you head out. 3. This is on the "quiter" part of the island, the south side. That said, we did find some great nearby food options: Kalaheo Cafe & Coffee for breakfast AND lunch, then Bobbi's for bbq pulled pork platters/sandwiches. Those places will *not* let you down. 4. The place can be tricky to find, especially at night since it's tucked up away into the hills a bit, without much, if any, street lights. Do your best to try to find it the first time in the daylight. 5. Yes, the hiking trails nearby may require an SUV to drive up them, but not this place; your regular car is fine. Just make sure the headlights work. 6. I'm not sure there's any a/c here, though opening the windows at night cooled the place off just fine for us. Beware of the roosters in the morning though; those bad boys wake up around 5am, and if your windows are open, you'll be awake too. We just shut the windows at that point, no big deal. 7. Any beach gear you could need is here; umbrella, 2 beach chairs, tons of beach blankets, a cooler, and 2 boogie boards. Super, super helpful. 8. And last but *definitely* not least: A full size washer & dryer. Literally the life-saver of the trip. 9. Runner-up life-saver: the hiking book tucked away on their bookshelf. Updated in 2014, so a newer edition, and another *huge* help. We didn't leave the apartment without it.

There is a covered shared patio area for grilling and a couple of hammocks. The cottage we stayed in was the two-bedroom two-bath. It was tiny but perfectly functional for our travel needs. There is a small kitchen that has a fridge, stove, microvwave, coffee maker and toaster. The stove is an electric old appliance but functional. The fridge is clean and large enough to stash food for a family for a week. The dishes and flatware are old but there are plenty. There is a bed in the main room and a bed in the smaller 2nd bedroom (that also has a mini-fridge and microwave). The first bathroom appears original to the house with the tall tiled rectangular shower common to houses of the era. The 2nd bathroom is larger and more modern. The wood floors throughout the bedrooms of the attached cottage are old and full of the patina of lives of all those who have passed through. The floors in the kitchen and bathrooms are covered with other material. There is a lanai with two chairs and and an umbrellaed table off each bedroom. The sliding door stuck on the first one, but it didn't matter. When we sat out there, drinking our coffee we could see the sun and clouds kissing the mountains and hear the ocean. There was a sweet cat who visited, but didn't beg. The roosters, somehow, were barely noticeable here and didn't wake me in the mornings, even with the windows wide open. The breeze was divine. The staff was friendly and accommodating when I called to book and on the day we checked out. We got a text message with the lockbox code and wifi information on the day of check in. Parking was right in the driveway, just a few feet from our cottage. The fans could use some cleaning and the toilets were small and seemed to run. But the water was warm and the towels were soft and smelled nice. The beds were also soft, but the charm of the whole setting was the perfect place to rest and restore before heading out for hikes, a beach walk, or a lazy day driving. If you enjoy a unique travel experience without fuss or pretense, want to stay in a cottage similar to the houses many locals live in, and want a yard next to nature on the north shore, I cannot recommend this place enough. The price was also spectacularly lower than the hotels and airbnb options. I'm grateful for having this place of escape from busy life on Honolulu.

A tv with a choice of stations & DVDs (We chose South Pacific, filmed nearby, & My Big Fat Greek Wedding). The entire staff was exceptional especially the Front Desk Manager Lena. She was so nice all the way up to our arrival answering all my questions to make the trip special and she even offered us a special accommodation just to simply our stay. The hotel itself is very centrally located, about 20-25 minutes from the airport and other small towns to explore for sights and food. It was so nice to stay somewhere where it's so intimate, that the valets, front desk and restaurant personnel all knew us by name! We had an oceanfront suite and loved feeling like the ocean was part of our backyard. The restaurant on-site, Red Salt, has delicious (but pricey) brunch and dinner. The pool bar is convenient (but also pricey). Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a very nice bathroom and a huge television. There was a free bottle of white wine in the fridge when we checked in. The room keys in the form of waterproof wristbands are a nice touch. It was mostly adults staying here and very few families with children, which is what we wanted for our mini-moon. Cons: The parking is Valet only. The pool is relatively small. The chairs around it fill up fast when it's busy. If a pool chair opens up, you can't get your own fresh towels/chair cover and have to wait for someone to come through with a cart to swap them out. You can't access the beach directly from the resort; on a map it looks like you can access Kiahuna beach, but you actually have to climb down from the boardwalk onto it (I did not want to do this and walked to Poipu Beach instead). The food is expensive and the "happy hour" drinks are $19. Overall, it was a relaxing stay in a beautiful location!
