My friends and I love all of their dishes. Their quality of food and service are never short from exceptional. After eating the Halal Gurus' dishes I feel ready to conquer my day! I don't feel sluggish, gross or tired. Their owner and staff are well mannered and eager to meet their customers. the white sauce on the beef Shawarma is not tzatziki sauce it is their house sauce what reeks strongly of mayonnaise and has no cucumber in it I called the location on Oltorf and inform the manager that tzatziki sauce would be a much better sauce on the beef Shawarma and he informed me that that that it was tzatziki sauce but it had no cucumber and was not tart It's Saving Grace was that the meat was absolutely delicious read more

This place hit the spot! I live off S Lamar and I would travel up to UT campus just to get Halal but now I found this hidden gem by the gas station, I won't have to. Definitely met my expectations of what I remembered it tasting like. I got the combination over rice which is lamb and chicken ($8.49) and couldn't stop eating it..and I wasn't even drunk on 6th. Now I only have 30 minutes for "lunch" break and since I work the night shift (4pm-12:30am), I look for places where I can order pickup thru the yelp app. This was one such place. As soon as I place the order it'll take a minute or 2 and then you'll get a pick up time so I know when to clock out and take my break since driving here takes 13 minutes, I'm happy that's it ready by the time I get there. Keep in mind this is not a dine in place although there is one table to sit and eat at. I've tried The Chicken over rice and the chicken wrap and the chicken shawarma and I love them all!! The food is great and you get decent proportions for what you pay. I love whatever that white sauce is made of it goes great with the chicken and rice, I'm not sure how to describe the taste but I can tell you that it's good and to try it for yourself, if you like it come back for more, if you don't then I don't know what to tell you. read more

I just got food here and it is SO good, I had to start writing my review before I finished. I will start out by saying this was not the first place I wanted to go. It seems all decent chain food is closed past 10PM, but I had a hankering for some sort of meat/rice/veg combo. Chilantro and Chipotle both let me down but then I saw the Halal Gurus was open, and decided it was worth a shot. I got the combo plate, with tip around 10$. Definitely a sizable portion. Anywho, it is delicious! Flavorful and tender meat. Rice is the right texture. I have been to the famed "halal guys" in New York very recently and honestly the Halal Gurus was better! I would say, the hot sauce could have been a little spicier (just by a hair) and I wish they had fries. Both of those aren't really complaints just thoughts! read more

We were debating between Kismet and Halal Gurus. We thought since we are in Austin, might as well get a food truck experience and decided to go to Halal Gurus. We were not disappointed. He takes his time to make the food though, which is great because you are guaranteed the freshest, juiciest bite. We got a beef shawarma sandwich and a chicken over rice plate. We were not really hungry and thought we are ordering more than we could eat but we ended up eating to the last bite. The atmosphere is chill too except the people coming out of the bushes behind the truck! Not sure what goes on there. I'd like to check that out too someday. This cute little yellow food truck is located in the parking lot of a gas station; right in front of a Metro PCS. The food was good! I got the chicken shawarma over rice plate, and my boyfriend got the combination (lamb and chicken) over rice plate. We had to take our food home because it started to rain, but it was still tasty and warm when we ate it 10-15 min later! You get a decent amount of food for what you pay, and it was enough to make me full! I didn't finish my food, which is rare! There are two picnic benches for you to sit on next to the trailer, and they're pet friendly as well (we brought our pup!) The gentleman that helped us with our order was very nice and polite; he offered us extra hot sauce and water. We did have to wait about 10-15 minutes for our food, but it was only because they had just opened. I definitely recommend the Halal Gurus if you want something light and filling, that's not heavy! read more
