Fancy Plate and Bowl
Salim P.

This is their third location that we have now tried in B-Town and everyone is slightly different than the rest. Our first sit down as well here as the other two were takeaways. Just before the before movies we thought we would stop by for a quick light dinner. Ordered their Medium Hot and Sour Soup which is vegan (plant-based) and Hakka Noodles. Their H&S soup is our favourite and it didn't disappoint. Although their take out only location at Chinguacousy is the best. The Vegan Hakka Noodles as well was perfectly cooked noodles. We forgot to cut down the oil and so was a bit greasy for us. Even the spice level could have been a notch above. The service was good and the decor ok. Fail to understand the connection between Cherry Blossom trees and Hakka cuisine. There is also a stage near the windows and I guess it is for some live music?

Hot garlic chicken with gravy

A pretty and unique restaurant! The inside is gorgeously decorated with murals, statues, and faux cherry blossoms. Nice ambience! The food was good. And the portions were big enough for 2-3 servings. We got the hot garlic chicken in gravy with a side of steamed rice, szechwan fried rice with beef, and traditional hakka fried rice with chicken and shrimp. The hot garlic chicken had a strange taste almost like a cross between poutine gravy, honey, and takeout chicken. The chicken was tender and good but the taste of the sauce was a bit sickening. My family struggled to finish it. Both the fried rice on the other hand were good! The szechwan rice was the best but the shrimp rice was good too (and smokey). Our only complaint was that the proportion of rice to veggies and protein was huge. The dishes hardly had veggies or meat, so they felt a bit overpriced for what they were. Service was average. If I ever am in the area again I would consider re-going.

And all of them tasted incredible, what stood out for me was their chicken lollipops (dry and the gravy coated).

Tried Green Bite after a friend recommended it, and we had a great early dinner here with family…read more We shared Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, Steamed Chicken Dumplings, Mongolian Beef, Shanghai Noodle with Chicken, and Chicken Wings. Service was honestly one of the best I've had in a while. The staff were friendly, responsive, and knew how to read the room. I also really appreciated how well they made use of the space. A lot of places this size end up feeling like takeout joints with tables, but this one was cozy and thoughtfully put together from top to bottom. Now onto the food. Overall, everything was good, but the wings were easily the standout. Perfectly fried, seasoned with just the right amount of spice and heat, and absolutely addictive. If you're coming here, ordering the wings isn't optional. They're a must. Other dishes, like the noodles and Mongolian beef, were a bit on the mild side for my taste. Maybe I'm just used to something with more kick, but they leaned a bit safe. Not bad at all, just felt like there was room to push flavor further, especially after tasting how well they nailed the wings. Dumplings were hearty and filling. I personally prefer a thinner wrapper, but these had a wholesome, satisfying quality that still worked. If the area is the reason they're keeping things mild, I get it. But I'd love to see what they could do in a more adventurous food neighborhood. Either way, it's a solid spot and I'd be happy to come back if I'm nearby.

Service was great. The restaurant is quaint but nice…read more Dumplings weren't my favourite. However, my friend and I really enjoyed the steamed veggies, bean curd rolls, crispy chicken wings and the beef ho fun (tossed in their chilli sauce you self serve at your table).

It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. See their website: https://www.congeequeen.com/menu.php and select your location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. Will keep in mind to meetup at any of the non downtown locations in future.

I echo what most have already said about this restaurant. It is busy for both lunch and dinner…read more Offers an expansive menu of authentic Chinese dishes. Service was quick. However, you better get your order and everything you want in one go, because they don't come back to serve you, and they're quite dismissive in their attitude towards you. They are all about getting you in, getting your food, and getting you out of here. If it wasn't for the taste, which was quite good, I would subtract more stars. However, the dishes I ordered, which include seafood fried rice and fish and tofu pot, were quite delicious. I would order both again, but there are plenty of options on their dinner and lunch menu I would try. The place is pretty expansive and clean and has an architectural feel and a fancy atmosphere for a Chinese restaurant. I would come back, but lower my expectations for the service.
