A bit late in getting to this review. 9 Queen is a very welcome addition to the area. Up till now, there hasn't been much available for more authentic Chinese food. I won't go to the extent of saying it's fully authentic as I'm not qualified and since there are some fusion aspects, but it certainly is fresher and you won't find many dishes where batter, sugar and corn starch are the primary ingredients. It's a great place to dine in as they put a lot of effort into the decor. It's very open and relaxing. I think to date I've dined in a couple times as well as take out about the same. Most of the dishes have been hits with me. Great chicken wings (an example of the fusion aspect) and all their fried rice dishes are quite unique and miles ahead of anyone else in the city. I've never had a bad dish, but some are just okay. We tried the mixed fried seafood which was pretty good, but a bit one-note in taste. I would come a bit more often (or order from) but prices are a bit on the higher side. Generally, it's pretty fair pricing as the quality is usually better, but a couple dishes perhaps seem a bit higher priced than they need to be. Mostly, it is fair pricing but often you have to order where you budget dictates which is why it won't always be 9 Queen for me. Overall, a great addition to the area and absolutely worth trying. Let's start with my order: - Crab Rangoon rolls - Sesame Chicken for one (combo) - Sweet and Sour chicken balls for one (combo) The crab rangoons came first and to be honest... I'm not sure what to make of them. They came out cold but oily and it's essentially an imitation crab stick a cucumber spear and..... some stick that's orange and yellow (cheese??). The rolls were old? Deep fried but soggy. It was weird. The chicken balls were very bland even when submerging them in sweet and sour sauce. Definitely no seasoning and I'm not even sure that there was salt on them? The fried rice was decent but only after adding soy sauce to it. The sesame chicken was flavorless and the sauce was very sticky and tacky. Not sure what happened there. Our waitress was nice but I wouldn't say the service was great. Wouldn't really recommend but I'm from Texas so maybe the flavor profiles are different from what I'm used to. Didn't finish my plate and didn't take the rest to go either. :( read more

If you know the area, then you know where to find free parking, otherwise, it could be tricky as they are located on a busy street across from the Rose Theatre and Starbucks. Their restaurant has a temporary sign as it is hard to see from far away. It's nice to see an Asian fusion restaurant in this area. It would be great for people to go to before a show. Their menu is one page, clean and detailed. They also have interesting bubble teas. It's an open concept sitting area, with lots of room to walk around. Not your typical crowed Chinese place where they try to maximize every tiny space. Two walls are cool with wallpaper of two Asian landscapes. One wall is white which I believe they will decorate it in the near future. The staff there were friendly. One of them came to explain their menu and signature dish. At the end, he offered complimentary fruits- guavas and passion fruit!! What!? Love it! Extra love there!! We ordered two dish to share: OGT chicken and Wok fried beef ho fun as it was recommended. The chicken is more on the sweet side than spicy. The beef dish didn't stand out much as I had it before. A variety of veggies would have been nice to it. The presentation of both dish was great. Since it's more of a fusion place, the portion of it was smaller. So we could have ordered another dish/appetizer. Washroom was new and clean. A little hidden gem tucked away in the middle of Brampton. I had no expectation of this Chinese Restaurant. I actually thought it wouldn't be authentic. Lol. Boy was I wrong. When I was little, I once asked my mom what the purple thing is on the plate during dinner. Mom said it's eggplant. I made a face of disgust and never ate eggplants until a couple of years ago. Now I love it. And of course I had to order this dish called Three Earthly Treasures. Eggplants, potatoes and peppers. One of the best vegetarian dish I have tasted. I also ordered a lobster cooked in maggi sauce. And I ate it without trying to think about how much the bill will come to. But yup. In Brampton, you can get a pretty good lobster dish, for a price that I don't want to think about. Lol. I also ordered Pomelo lemon iced tea. It was a refreshing drink at $6. Got to visit this place and tried lots of different dishes the other day! It is located in the heart of Brampton, location wise is very nice and not able to missed it~ Personal favs are the pan fried dumplings, sweet and sour pork, and the lobster tower! Each dishes are well seasoned and presentation is on the spot! Also, loving the decor in the restaurant that gives the casual feeling but presentable enough to have family gatherings. They've only been open six weeks apparently, but they're doing a lot of things right. Service is prompt and friendly, the food is well prepared, flavourful and appropriately priced ($11-16 for mains). There is a good variety of Chinese favourites, without being overwhelming. We started with the potstickers, which is clearly a must have item. The drumplings' wrapping was perfectly made and pan-fried. We also really enjoyed the stir fry noodles which had just right amount of oil and wok "flavour". They're supposed to get their liquor license soon, but they have some interesting mock tails and bubble tea options. We had the real taro bubble tea, which honestly tasted more like a milkshake and didn't have quite a strong taro flavour as I'd prefer. But perhaps I'm not the usual customer. When we paid the bill, we were invited back for free bubble tea which was a very nice bit of customer service. There's just a couple of small suggestions, the decor was a bit sparce and when the door opened, if you sit near the front, the wind would blow in on you. Overall I'd definitely come back. I'm not aware of any Chinese restaurants in the area, so very happy to have found this! Obviously not traditional Chinese food, but also not greasy fast food. I'd say the quality and taste are up there along with an affordable price point. Haven't been reviewing or eating out much because of the pandemic, but you have those days where you just don't want to cook. I've ordered here before and was a fan so decided to come back twice! Each time trying something new but also getting the lemon chicken every time. The lemon chicken is my favourite dish. It's deep fried in batter which sounds pretty funky, but I find it delicious. It's not your typical chicken I should say. This time, I got the beef and broccoli, also delicious and very savoury. The beef was very good and the broccoli was nicely cooked. Old school Canadian Chinese food. Had it delivered by Uber. It reminds me of when my parents used to order when I was a kid.

We got takeout again and it was good. We tired the shrimp wonton soup (light tasting, you can add your own salt if you like it really salty, and the wontons were a good size), crab Rangoon spring rolls (2 crab and cheese filled long spring rolls were crispy and tasted okay but next time would get their really good normal spring rolls), Cantonese crispy chow mein (We forgot to ask for the crispy noodles on the side for the chow mein, but it still tasted great), stir fried Chinese greens (was bok choy and a good fresh portion), lemon chicken (nice tart thick lemon sauce and loads of great crispy deep fried chicken like fish and chips style). All the food tasted good and would order here again. In the past we tried hot&sour soup (really spicy but good), pork potstickers (were only okay), three earthly treasures (very nice), the regular wonton soup (also good, but the shrimp is best). read more

Wow is all I can say. I am definitely surprised by this restaurant with the Chinese cuisine in the middle of downtown Brampton. Normally, I would go eat Chinese food in Scarborough or Richmond Hill but this place has surpassed my expectations. I have been in the area before when I was working for a client and know the area pretty well. The location used to be a coffee / sandwich place that I would go once in a while. Other Asian food in the area was Vietnamese or Japanese but no Chinese restaurant. It is difficult to imagine that there is such a place in downtown Brampton but it has done a good job in my books. Went to a festival nearby and the fam wanted to try them out after seeing the resto. The owner was friendly and told us about the concept of the restaurant using premium quality ingredients plus hiring a chef that has lots of experience at the prominent restaurants in the GTA. We all were looking forward to the food after hearing the story. We ordered 2 veggie dishes to open our pallets. The one with eggplant, potatoes and peppers was our favorite as it was colourful and unique. The beef steak tenderloin with potatoes was amazing and couldn't get enough of it. We could tell that they used quality beef to make the dish as opposed to most other Chinese restaurants. Another dish that was great was the sweet & sour pork shoulder which comes with 3 different fruits instead of just the typical pineapple. They even prepare lobster like the other high-end seafood restaurants. Definitely will return to try out more dishes when I'm in the area. What a great find! This restaurant was recommended to us (5 people) by a local business owner. We were all pretty hungry so we were eager to order. We took our seats, quickly and reviewed the menu for 5 minutes before ordering our drinks with our server. It was our first time coming to this establishment. When we arrived the place was virtually empty, all but a couple occupied the space. When we showed up it seemed people started strolling in like no body's business after that. Our drink order: 2 bubbleteas, a mango lassi blend, and 2 sodas, pretty self explanatory. The review on the blended drinks was all round, too sweet; the immortal peach, the young fei and the true mango. They were delicious and a once-in-a-while type of thing esp. With the level of sweetness. The dishes took a long time to come out. In fact it took our server a long ass time to tend our table. As they plated our table, we discovered a dirty plate. Picture included. Rather unappetizing. Our dishes were massive and more than plenty for all 5 of us. Even the appetizers were fairly large in size, however to spend 20 bucks on an appetizer, a tad expensive. The Rich Man's fried rice, I give this 0.5 out of 5 stars. The dish I ordered was extremely bland. It should NOT be called Rich Man's fried rice, as the scallops were smaller than the size of dimes, and they only give you 3 to 4, if that, full shrimp. Thankfully they remove the shells. The rest of the shrimp they cut up into tiny peices, as if completely dismembering the shrimp and barely making it noticable as shrimp. They do this also with the asparagus spears, which hardly equate to 3 spears. The majority of the dish itself is rice, obviously, but it doesnt even seem like its fried at all, jus seems like cooked plain rice, with no soy sauce, no pepper, no salt, no anything. I would definitely not order this again. The other dishes were lacking in a lil' somethin', somethin', whether that was flavour, quality, or care. It shows. The beef, my friend said, melted in her mouth. Yet, meat is not supposed to melt in your mouth, it's meant to be chewed. Frankly, I dont know what that "meat" was, it did not look good! They try really hard to be a higher scale restaurant, yet they struggle. The service was sub-par. It took them such a long time to clear our dirty drink glasses,which had been on the table since the beginning of our meal and to notice our water needed refilling. Also, as first time customers to any establishment usually a run down of how things work there in the way of their menu and dish sizes, is provided. However, our server lacked the natural finesse, or mere practice necessary, to be on point. As, it is unfortunate to say, she was nice yet not the best server I have had. My other friend got food poisoning, so definitely would not be going back. All in all my experience was less than favourable. 1 out of 5 stars as stated! read more

Had classic Canadian-style Chinese food take out at 9 Queen Chinese in Brampton over the weekend! We walked down and then ordered so it was all made super fresh. As we waited so many people swung by to pick up their food, clearly a hit. Food was fantastic! Best wontons in a wonton soup I have ever had. Been so long since I have been to a Chinese restaurant. I wish I could give a positive review, I love supporting local businesses-- but nope. For our take-out order, almost 1/3rd of the honey garlic sesame chicken were burned. Blackened, inedible little rocks at the bottom of the container. But the lemon chicken -- the batter was raw. And I mean *uncooked*, gooey batter under a crispy fried surface. My parents and I enjoyed a lovely lunch here (where the old Coffee Culture cafe used to be) called 9 QUEEN Chinese. We have been longing to find a place that serves delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine ever since Kingsley closed down last summer. 9 Queen's food was fantastic and so Instagram worthy!!! We started with Hot & Sour soup. It was packed with so many goodies like wood ear mushrooms and tofu. Just the perfect amount of heat. Then we chose 3 items from their menu. Naughty Buddha Rice. Perfectly cooked fried rice with the most precisely cut cubes of king mushrooms! Then came the latest addition to their menu (they've been open for about 6 weeks now and have been tweaking the menu), Wok Fried Beef Ho Fun. This was recommended by the very handsome co-owner, Micheal (like he could've just walked off the screen from the movie "Crazy Rich Asians" as one of the cast members!). The noodles are made fresh every day. The flat rice noodles had the perfect and trademark slightly charred taste. It was perfection. It wasn't swimming in a pool of oily sauce either. Lastly, we ordered the Pepper Salt Trio. The trio being a small tower of yummy squid, fish and shrimp that was covered in a light crispy coating. My dad and I couldn't resist and just HAD to try their taro bubble tea. And it's REAL taro, not a coloured flavour powder. The tapioca pearls were white, which made the drink look so elegant!! All in all, the food was great, the service was great, everything tasted great! I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items in the menu. I also loved that fact that the menu wasn't a huge book, they had a good variety of dishes. I can't wait to try some of the lunch menu items. I wish 9 Queen all the best. We went back a week or so ago and they seemed pretty much on track. Menu has expanded and the place wasn't messy or disjointed. They've for sure got their legs under them. Place wasn't busy but the takeout was a steady stream. Food was hot and fresh amd as good as we remembered. We'd tried their quick service food at one of the downtown Brampton events and it was so good it lured us back in. Much improved. We don't go out as much in the winter but this place is a great addition to downtown. Def recommend and we will return. read more

A great addition to Downtown Brampton food scene! The restaurant is BEAUTIFULLY redecorated and they did amazing job reinventing the space. It's filled with lots of seating and large tables for groups. Their service is good depending on who is working, lol. I've had amazing, over-the-top service from 9Queen and I've also waited at the door for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me lol. Overall there's more good service than bad so it's not that big of a deal. The food however is awesome! I've tried the Sichuan Mapo Tofu, Cashew Chicken, Potstickers and Mother-in-law's Dumplings- all were absolutely to die for. The Mapo Tofu was definitely my favourite, the numbing peppercorns make that dish! But I will say the portions are small, so it's good to order a few dishes and share them between friends. Desperate times calls for desperate measures is what made me decided to give this place a try. Essentially there is no authentic Chinese food in Brampton besides Noodle To Go as a takeout alternative. Owners are Cantonese and have been serving the Brampton community for more than a decade. As for 9 Queen, it makes me think of those Chinese restaurants in the middle of nowhere when you are traveling in remote territories. The irony of seeing food served on woks is such that real Chinese restaurants would never do that. This immediately signals not authentic. I ordered shanghai noodle and stir fried hor fun (flat rice noodle) to see if these basic simple dishes would be acceptable. From appearance, they look decent and likely prepared by Chinese cooks. However, they were so oily that it's hard to gauge whether it's supposed to the way it should. Your mouth is just trying to work around the grease. For the portion and quality, it's definitely over priced. You could get much better dishes from First Markham Food Court for half the price and it comes with a soup or drink. The only reason that people are coming to this place is because there are no options. If you are looking to satisfy your authentic Chinese food craving, this place cannot help you. As for ambience, there's none so nothing to talk about. It's just one big open space so it gets pretty noisy. read more

What a gem downtown Brampton - celebrated husband's birthday here - ordered 9 various dishes, including braised Grouper and Jazi fried chicken (not on regular menu, but holy yum) - every single dish had a unique taste - rich in flavour and savoury. Came here on a Saturday, not as busy as we thought. There were about 3 staffs in the restaurant, We ordered Pepper Salt Trio, OGT Chicken, Beef Ho fun and Mother-in-law dumplings. We found a piece of hair in the OGT chicken and informed the staff and he quickly replaced it with a new dish. Food was okay, atmosphere was not bad given that it was quiet, service was okay. Perhaps it was just an off night but I'm not sure what all the positive reviews are about. Since the pandemic started, we've only ordered Chinese once and that was from a generic chain (Mandarin), so we decided to try something more mom & pop and I have to say, Mandarin far outweighed this experience. Here's the summary: We ordered online, food took nearly 1.5 hours to arrive (We live less than 2 km from the restaurant). Egg roll - cold Hot & Sour soup - too much hot, not enough sour, but probably the part of the meal I enjoyed the most. Fujian vermicelli - quite bland. Needed to add loads of soy sauce to give it some flavour and the pork in it was as chewy as jerky. Sweet & Sour chicken balls - both balls & sauce were cold. Sauce had a weird almost raspberry flavour, like they put jam/jelly in it or something. Just off. Beef with Chinese broccoli - cold & oily, lacked flavour. After adding hot Chili sauce packets it was quite a bit more palatable. Sad to say but I think we'll be going back to Mandarin next time read more
