I would highly recommend this ramen shop. Hakataya ramen serves authentic Japanese ramen that is just mouth watering. The food is delicious , the flavours are just natural, no MSG. The broth is fantastic, the noodles are chewy and not like any other ramen shop where the noodles are plasticky and generally not that good. Not to mention the pork one of a kind, the meat is so soft and tender, the fat just melts in your mouth without biting. There decor is really nice, matches a Japanese ramen shop. The waiters are just amazing, they don't fuss about customers wanting a refund when they don't like their food. Unfortunately, the price for the ramen is quite high, ranging from $16 - $18.50. This might be out of peoples price range but they do offer quality food for people who want to pay that price. read more

It is good - price is reasonable - often crowded so may need to wait to get a seat. That is a good sign of the quality. My daughter likes the gyoza - the're plain and simple, no fancy trim. Hakataya Ramen - Dish No. 1 - Japanese Near Me - Sunnybank, QLD

Hakataya Ramen is one of my top favourite Ramen places. I still love Men-Jikan in Geebung the best, and then Taro's, but Hakataya is next in line. If I lived closer to Sunnybank, then it might move up the line of favourites, but Sunnybank is a bit of a hike for me (I'm a north side girl). They specialise in the Tonkotsu soup broth, which is pork bone. Men-Jikan and Taro's both offer a variety of broths (including chicken and vegetarian) but Hakataya Ramen just sticks with what they do best. The stock is simmered for 39 hours apparently, which is the secret behind this secret recipe for delicious stock. I've learnt through my own cooking experiments, that good stock makes all the different to Asian dishes. You can request a paper apron, so you don't slurp and splash the soup on your clothes. A wise move! Hakataya also offers the traditional noodle refill "Kae-dama", which is where you get an extra serving of noodles to go into your remaining soup. Just be sure to order it before you finish your soup. read more

Ever since I last traveled to Japan I'd been craving a really good, authentic ramen. When I discovered Hakataya ramen, my search was over. Hakataya ramen do one thing, really, and they do that thing very, very well. You can get gyoza, or rice soup with pork, but it's the ramen that is the star attraction here. And boy, is it ever good. It's like a hug on a cool winter's day. If you're a ramen fan, you need to come eat here, it's incredible. Plus, if you're hungry, they throw in extra noodles for free! One thing, if you've got a big appetite, make sure you order it with extra meat. It's not much extra, and it's totally worth it. PS there's not a lot of seating here, and it is quite popular, so make sure you try to get there for lunch or get there early for dinner. Or be prepared to wait for a short while. It's not the type of place you go for the ambiance, so tables become available quite quickly, so it's not that big a problem. Also, if you turn up late on a busy night, there's a small chance they'll have sold out (happened to me once!) - so be warned! :) read more

Tucked in the middle of Sunnybank, this little ramen house has the look and feel of an actual Japanese noodle shop. The noodles are cooked out in the open and the aromas can be seen and felt from the first time you enter. I got gyoza and the spicy pork ramen. The gyozas were cooked very well with only a bit of oil residue left on the skin. The ramen was decent sized but the flavor was pretty average. It was particularly spicy but nor was it too salty. Overall it tasted just a step above pork broth. The non spicy one actually looked a bit better and I might give that a go next time. The highlight here though was the noodles. They were cooked perfectly with a firm but not tough consistency. Also, if you're in the mood for more, additional noodles are complimentary! My meal cost under $20 with $12 going to the ramen and $7 for the gyoza. For that price, you can't get much better for the money around here. read more

Sometimes there's a resounding need for soul food. Your body craves the warm comfort and restoration it provides. A few weeks ago I needed ramen. It's my spirit meal and if I'm ever feeling low spirited it's one food sure to ignite my fire again. Happening to be in the vicinity of Sunnybank, Hakataya Ramen was my choice. It is located in Sunnybank Plaza and outside towards Mos Burger. It's cheap as chips. $10 for a bowl of plain ramen and free extra noodles. You order, it's brought to you in quick succession and you're left to slurp til your heart's content. As restorative as the bowl of warm broth, eschalots and thinly sliced pork was, it just doesn't compare to my beloved Taro's. The noodles are thinner, they're less robust and the broth just seems flat following a sip of Taro's. Yet, I feel, locally, this is a futile argument for it is like the Coke vs. Pepsi debate. There's no real difference (okay, maybe there is for the drinks) but rather just different flourishes and ways of making that differentiates these two local ramen Kings. And to be fair, I'll happily eat both, and for a quick lunchtime ramen fix this did the trick. read more

Kaedama Kudasai! Hakataya is about as authentic as Ramen gets in Brisbane. What makes this place special is it's simplicity. Their delicous porky broth, chewy Hakata Ramen and karashi takana pickles are comparable to any that you would find on the streets of Kyushu. I ordered the Cho-shu which comes with delicious pieces of pork. If you aren't filled up by the noodles, you can order extra by saying 'Kaedama Kudasai' Hakataya is not as tasty as Taros Ramen cafe in the city. I love this place and drive from way out on the northside to come visit. This place is all about simplicity and flavour. The menu isn't large, it's just 4 different styles of ramen, gyoza or ton-meshi (pork soup flavoured rice). All the ramen is pork broth based and I really think it's the broth that is the big draw here. It's so amazingly flavoursome. The pork is also so good I always order extra. I love sitting inside and watching the cooking process. The giant pots for the broth boggle my mind. There isn't much seating it's best to come on your own or with only a friend or two and be prepared for some queing time. I have seen people collect theirs for takeaway so keep that in mind as an option. Me friends and I have had heated discussions about wether we think Hakataya or Taro's is better. I think I've finally come to the conclusion they are on par. I prefer the broth here but the noodles at Taro's. There is a larger range of food options at Taro's but what you can get here is cheaper and you get more meat. STALEMATE! read more

I love the simplicity of the menu selection at Hakataya. I'm a big fan of ramen places and Hakataya hits the spot whenever I have my ramen craving. I'm not really too keen on the small spaces to eat but it does deliver that Japanese-style ramen shop experience. The quality of the food has been very consistent in my many visits which is a plus. This means I can always count on Hakataya to deliver the experience I have come to expect. Staff are always friendly and although it takes some time to get your food especially when it is busy, the waits are never really too long. I came across this place in sunny bank and it was definitely a unique Japanese soup experience. I was in my cravings for unprocessed noodles with real meat and this soup definitely meets the quality standards. The pork cuts on top of the soup were tender and soft and added a nice texture and flavor to the spicy soup. The soup was good but a little pricey at $12 for a large soup. Not the best, Taro's takes the prize for that one, but one of the better places to indulge your ramen fantasy. They have a special stock soup which has been boiled with all the goodness you can imagine. What you need to know from this, and one of the reasons people flock here to have their ramen is because drinking this special boiled for a mega long time soup is that it is the secret to living longer, being healthier and having a super great tasting broth with your ramen noodles and whatever you decide to have with them. They allow for noodle re-fills have have pretty good Gyoza you can order on the side. There is a reason there is usually a long line-up for this place, it's just plain good. read more

I'll tell you a secret. Hakataya Ramen is so amazing I use to drive 45 minutes to the Gold Coast for a bowl of their noodles. When they finally opened at Sunnybank Plaza, it saved me copious amount of petrol money. However, there is still the queue to contend with plus they'll usually run out of soup stock by 8pm most nights. Apparently, the soup stock is the secret behind their success. It's simmered for 39 hours and chock full of vitamins and pork bones and I don't know what else - perhaps liquid gold. They only have four noodle options on their menu and they're equally as good. I usually go for the Spicy pork noodle soup - with a serve of extra ramen. You can help yourself to the spicy Japanese pickles which make a delicious accompaniment to the meal. While researching for this review, I found out that a new Hakataya has just opened up at Market Square, the shopping centre diagonally opposite Sunnybank Plaza. Simple yet delicious. I'm convinced that the spicy pork noodle soup (which I highly recommend) contains some type of addictive additive as I crave these noodles at least once a week. However, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The Gyoza and Ton-Meshi are equally delicious and the pork is so moist that it almost melts in your mouth. I've had ramen before, but it was never anything like what I had with my husband tonight. He ordered the Tonkotsu, the pure bone broth soup. I tasted it and it was amazing. I had the spicy pork ramen and it was definitely nothing like any ramen I've had in the past - it was better. It was the perfect level of spicy and I loved the fact that there was actually flavour in the noodles. Both dishes were generous portion sizes for their prices. The only thing I could fault the restaurant on is how little space there is for movement inside, but I guess you forget about that whilst enjoying your food. read more

Love the food, and the service is great. The staff are always friendly and courteous and the food is made quickly. I have gotten countless takeaway orders and barely waited 10-15 minutes before my food was ready, followed by an apology for the wait (even though I had yet to even start wondering about when my food would be ready). There are days when they get very busy and you'll see a long queue lined up, but that's only because the food is worth it. I will go back there as long as the place stays this great. read more

I had gone to hakataya stores in a couple of other locations around the city, but nothing matches the speed, meal accuracy (I always order my food to go & all together) and courteousness of the staff. I can't remember ever waiting more than maybe 10-15 minutes for food - and with the atmosphere and the busyness of the venue, it's not even noticeable.
