Course #1: Fresh oyster in lime sauce, soft shell crab karaage with shiso salsa, and seared Waygu with sesame sauce.

Excellent ambiance. Excellent service. Excellent food. This made for an amazing and memorable anniversary dinner. We selected the Tasting Course with the wine match. It was phenomenal! The wines complimented each course perfectly, bringing out the best of the flavours of each. The most fresh & tender sashimi we have ever encountered. The Waygu dish was very, very good. The barramundi dish was to die for! The dessert plate was perfect with the moscato wine. It was the perfect finale for this gastronomical ecstasy of which we were able to partake!

I went to Sono for a dinner with a friend. The atmosphere was firstly were nice and calm, even though the restaurant was packed! All the wait staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always with a smile. All the food at Sono was AMAZING! I ordered Soft Shell Crap with Shiso Salsa, Prawn Tempura Hand Roll and Tasmanian Salmon roll! Firstly the soft shell crab with the vinegar sauce was so delicious and both sushi dishes were also nice. For desert I ordered Green Tea Marble Cake with ice cream and read bean paste and green tea sauce, this was also amazing! I'm not such a fan of green tea, but the cake and sauce were both tasty and not overwhelmingly! Definitely give it a try if you visit Sono

I am a super big fan of Sono and what William and his team have created here at Portside is nothing to be sneezed at. A teppanyaki area, tables with great views of the river and space between you and the next table in general makes this split level restaurant one of the best I have seen. The chefs are amazing, artistic and the food does not take a long time to be served. All the food I have had here is immaculate. A restaurant worthy of being in a 5 star hotel, this place serves a mean Waygu Beef Tataki and also, it is a good thing to note as well... the entrees are pretty decently sized. In fact instead of ordering a main each, most of the time my husband and I order double the amount of entrees so we can taste everything and it fills us up at the same if not less the cost. An entree to try here is the Zucchini flower with vegetables. Served in a tempura coating, it is to die for. For me, what makes this place so great is the matching of the sauces... for each entree/dish they have a different sauce and the sauces compliment the food and make each dish pop that little more.

Went to the Brisbane sono and was blown away so decided to try portside as well , got the private room again and the service yet again was second to none! Food blew us all away and I must say the chochlate dessert was incredible. Once again ate a full 4 coarses each with champagne and wine cocktails and a few bottles of sake and was still around $120 per person , very reasonable for such high standards of food and service.

I recently had lunch here with a friend and we were both really impressed! The restaurant is stunning and the food is amazing! Neutral tones create a warm atmosphere and there are spectacular views of the river. We chose the teppanyaki option for lunch which is $45 for a three course set menu which I think is great value. Our chef was charming and quite funny. He shaped our sizzling friend rice into a heart and made it beat with his cooking utensils - it was very cute! The first course was a steaming miso soup which was very light with a subtle sea flavour - the perfect starter. The main was a seared fillet of Atlantic salmon cooked on the grill in soy sauce and white wine - this was served with a side of artfully carved vegetables and fried rice. Dessert was a scoop of velvety green tea ice-cream which tasted just as good as it looked. Sono offer a variety of dining options including the teppayaki bar, sushi bar and al-a-carte. Private rooms with river views are available for groups which makes it the perfect location for your next function.

The restaurant was hopping (we made a reservation) with more people coming in at 12.30pm. There were 5 of us and 4 of us opted for the chirashi set, while my dad ordered the sashimi set. We also ordered tempura, chicken karaage, grilled squid and nasu miso (miso eggplant). Everything was good, especially the salted grilled squid (there is also teriyaki) and eggplant. The fish was very fresh and portions generous. Definitely a good spot for a lovely casual Japanese meal.

But we weren't the first people to arrive - the place filled up as soon as the doors opened! A large group had pre-ordered large Sashimi boats and the chef was busily preparing these when we sat down. They were stunning - a true piece of art! I ordered a Plum Wine which was delicious and sweet to start with. The menu is quite extensive, but is well organised and I think well priced for Japanese food. The Egg Omlette was the first to come out. It was quite a big serving and the egg was delicious and sweet. The Beef Tataki, which is seared beef that is still quite rare on the inside and cut into thin slices and served with a vinegar/soy dipping sauce - was absolutely to die for! The beef was so tender. The Spicy Tuna sushi rolls were very good - Tuna sashimi with a sauce. It wasn't as spicy as I had assumed, but still very nice. 6 pieces of sushi on the plate, with ginger and wasabi. We had ordered a dish that was Japanese Beef rolls with Vegetables. I can't remember the Japanese name of it, but dear lord, this was totally amazing. It was marinated beef slices that were in a thick sweet marinade/sauce. This is a must try dish! I had read a recommendation for the Nasu Dengaku - grilled eggplant with miso - and this was one of the highlights of the meal. The eggplant was cooked to perfection - the flesh so soft and creamy - and the miso on top was super tasty. You can eat the flesh and skin of the eggplant, it was so well cooked. Other people at my table ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and Chicken Katsu as their meals. Just remember to order a bowl of rice, as they don't come with rice automatically. The service was great at Hosokawa and the food was prepared and served very quickly. I can highly recommend this place for dinner, but you definitely need to book at weekends as it gets very busy!

Until about 2 minutes after we sat down, and it got quite busy. The range of sushi here seems much the same as the Ginga at the Emporium. I quite like it, but find that the range they make and put on the train is lacking imagination. Can't go wrong with the tuna and avocado roll, and the crab and avocado was really good too. I always find the chicken at Ginga quite dry, though. It doesn't look it from the outside, but they do the hot dumplings and noodles as they do at Emporium. It was nice and clean and the staff were friendly. Oh, and be aware to get out you need to press the green button at the door.

Sushi Mura is not Japanese/Chinese fusion like Yum Yum Gyoza House, and has a wide selection of dishes you would typically find at a Japanese restaurant on their menu. From Sushi through to mixed sushi boxes, Salads, Japanese U-don soups, various Curries and of course Teriyaki options. There's room for dining-in and inside (which is larger than Yum Yum Gyoza House) there's an aesthetically calm feel to the space. Simple low hanging pendant lights and the natural colours of the wooden floors (& matching tables), and with the use of black chairs giving form and definition. The service is friendly and full of smiles. Always wins points with me. The food can't really be faulted either. I like Japanese food. I am a fan of their Teriyaki chicken bento box, which comes standard with rice, miso soup and salad. The spring rolls and calamari were great too. In terms of pricing, its not too bad, and yes I do think its "value-for-money". However, If I had to compare Sushi Mura to Yum Yum Gyoza House, the latter slightly wins on this criteria. All-in-all, Bulimbarians and east-siders in general should feel lucky they are spoilt for choice when it comes to Japanese cuisine.

It's a mystery how we'd never come across Tsuru before, as they've been around since 2009, with a cafe in Ashgrove, Albany Creek, Manly West, West End & now Cannon Hill. The menu is extensive with so many options to choose from including gluten free. What it did have is trinkets near the service counter, which I found cute and very Japanese, even though the chairs, tables, and dining ware were ordinary. I got the tempura udon, though I did contemplate on getting a sushi roll for a while. The udon was nice and "Q" and the soup base wasn't too salty (which tends to happen at restaurants), but I didn't like the tempura that much.
