Not even kidding but I have Oishi's phone number saved for ease of access to make reservations whenever my friends and family are craving good sushi. That's when you know it's a definite go to ! They don't mess around with silly western flavors or fusions - their menu is quite traditional Japanese. You can order sushi, noodles, side dishes, rice dishes here which is great if you're not feeling just sushi. They offer fresh sashimi and fried sushi rolls too which is so yummy. Had the udon noodles for the first time rather than just the sushi and I was so pleased it was so simple but executed well.

With sushi rolls like the 'Dragon Roll' and the 'Spider Roll' you can't help but wonder, mmm yummy…read more So this Japanese joint is a little pricey, but the sushi's are pretty big, and made fresh by the guys wearing the chef hats behind the counter. I'm a big fan because.. 1) This place has A&W Rootbeer (woohoo, go the asian in me) 2) This place has green tea ice cream 3) This place serves up a mean agedashi tofu (om nom nom nom) My weakness for agedashi tofu was realised here along with my weakness for the seaweed salad, potato salad and edamame. Oh the edamame. So much of it. In fact the Yakitori Chicken is pretty good too, so is most the stuff on the entree section of the menu. Damn this place! So our bill did come up to a whopping $80 for the 4 of us... but we left there feeling satisfied, feeling like we would come back and feeling like we wouldn't be sick the next day - which is always a good thing. Definetely going back there.

Their menu is by far the best at Garden City with some tasty options such as their scallop nigiri and peking duck sushi. Even the sushi rice tastes better here. I've been told there's quite an art to making sushi rice with trainee sushi chefs in Japan spending years just mastering the rice technique before moving onto toppings. Having sampled such a wide array of sushi rice I heartily believe this. For this higher quality sushi, you're looking at a starting price of $2.50 moving up to around $3.50 for their premium range. It's worth the splurge though at the end of a shopping trip.

The Garden City store was only the second open in the state, but now a few more have followed (thank goodness). Still, in case you haven't cottoned on yet I feel it is my duty to inform you that this is the best takeaway sushi around. Not only is everything delicious, fresh and made from top quality ingredients, they have brown rice options, something I had never seen before. The taste is a little different of course, but it's still amazing and there's the added bonus of feeling even healthier with your meal choice. This is not a place that you'll come across overly Westernised versions of sushi, with mostly more traditional flavours available. The trendy design of the place really doesn't belong in an overcrowded shopping centre, but I'm certainly glad it's there.

You would think that…read morea place slammed in between McDonalds, some random restaurants, and a Foodworks would just be your run-of-the-mill sushi place and nothing special. Let me put it to you this way. I used to live on the north side of Brisbane, and I would trek it out to Salisbury just to get my hands on some of this sushi, it's that great. That's at least a 30-minute drive in clear traffic. Yeah, pretty good sushi guys. I've had Sushi by Rail sushi hungover, as dinner, as lunch, and as a yes-I'll-definitely-get-more-to-save-for-later precaution. I don't know anywhere else that does sushi as fresh and as yummy as this place, seriously; but maybe that's just my ghosting hungover self remembering how amazing it tasted that one lunchtime after a heavy night out. My favourite is the chicken and avocado rolls, and I swear their mayo and sauce is better than any other sauce I've tasted. Especially with crab dumplings; oh my goodness, mouth-watering deliciousness. This place is such a pleasant surprise, and I thoroughly enjoyed rubbing how great it was in my friend's face when he looked at me dubiously after I suggested we eat there. Here you can takeaway or eat in, grab from the sushi conveyor belt or order specially. It always tastes great no matter what you choose and the service is prompt and friendly. Take my word for it, the avocado sushi and some of their deep-fried items are serious standouts of magnificence.

And with a pretty good varied selection. Yep and there were lots of blokes as well as student and local workers both collecting off the train for their takeaways and also sitting down and enjoying a chat whiile clearly grazing on some good food. Great to find a place like this essentially in the carpark of the pub...well that's how it felt to me. Miso soup and green tea topped off a great lunch. Very well priced too. Parking is pretty easy. Of you are local I'd say 'Get there and support this local business.'
