Top notch ramen in this place. Cooked right there in front of you. Can get very crowded, and only a few seats around the bar. But you can get your ramen and take it into the food court. If you really want a seat at the bar you should plan to come a bit early, wait for a seat or just order it and hope you luck out on the seats before your order comes up. Big groups forget about it. As for the food, I can't go past the char siu men and the gyoza is excellent too.

The Gap is a fickle place for new ventures, and a subterranean foodie class exists that hardly recognises great food when it's tasted. We had seen a few reviews of Sushi Maho and with another sushi-train style restaurant opening in the suburb, and trying that, we decided to give Sushi Maho a Maho-go. Firstly, the menu is extensive and moderately priced, with everything made fresh-to-order. However, that doesn't mean that everything's made as it should be, as our Dragon Roll ($16) had the flame torch passed over it too closely and too long, resulting in some charring and a distinct burnt taste to the prawns that wasn't very appetising at all. We've had better at other Japanese restaurants where the flame flower wasn't used so heavily, or hardly noticed it. We then ordered the Chicken Karage Udon ($12) and Spicy Seafood Nagasaki Ramen ($15). Both of these had their pluses and minuses, the broth tasty and well-seasoned, but the ingredients were a let-down. The noodles in the ramen seemed like they came from a dried packet, which is okay but drop the price, and the seafood like a marinara mix from your local fish monger, but without a hint of Asian authenticity or seasoning. Likewise, the chicken karage was tepid in taste and texture, and is something I make at home and being a Westerner have accumulated a cult following for among the family when I make it. However, suburban dining is often an oxymoron and despite our somewhat lacklustre experience here we will return. But not for any of the noodle soups, but to explore and order more of their sushi rolls which is where, in our view, they have an edge over the others in The Gap with Sushi Dream running a close second. Bon appetit!

We chose this sushi place because of it's predecessor - Sushi Station. We were sorely disappointed. By which I mean, Tokyo Express has taken the place of one of the most lacklustre sushi venues south of the city and turned it into an amazing, unique and exciting sushi restaurant that stands out compared to all of it's competitors. The staff do the usual adorably loud greeting when you enter, and offer seating at a booth or at the train. We always opt for the train as it has consistently been magnificently stocked with some of the most exciting and inventive plates I've encountered in my quest for the perfect sushi. They offer water or green tea upon seating and at each table/section of the train they have pots of soy, fresh (mild) Wasabi and pickled ginger. Tokyo Express have all manner of weird and wonderful plates ranging from the classic seared fresh salmon to almond crumbed king prawns, octopus balls, caviare and scallop tarts, fresh Japanese and western deserts and pretty much any type of fun and funky sushi dish you could imagine. I couldn't recommend Tokyo Express more. They have been quiet each time we have dined there and I really hope to rectify this! 5/5 will continue to go back. A quick hint - if you're choosing something that looks like it should be hot, ask them to heat it. Until they get as busy as they need to be, some things won't be piping hot (IE Karage, salt/pepper squid, gyoza) and they're more than happy to re-heat.

My husband and I used to live really close but we have moved to the south side, and we still drive across the city to eat here. (they didn't serve the super fancy stuff on those nights but it was a great night out to eat till you pop!)

You have the option of sitting in the restaurant area or the sushi train area. We opted for the restaurant. Hubby ordered three small separate dishes and I ordered the Sashimi Bento box. The bento box was $20 and really good value for all the food you got. So much so that I didn't even notice that a few things were missing from the box I'd ordered until the chef remembered he'd forgot to add them and prefusely apologised. He even gave us spring rolls because he felt so bad about it. I thought this was really thoughtful of the restaurant. I would happily eat here again. We were both definitely full when he left. Takeaway orders are also taken here.

She had driven passed Kokoro and thought it looked really good, to my shock it was the first I has ever heard of it, which is strange as a I live so close and love Japanese cuisine. We made our way over to the establishment which is located right next to 'Iceworks.' We were shown to our seats by a friendly man who was the only person manning the floor, he quickly brought us menus and asked if we wanted sparkling or tap. The decor is clean and simple in true Japanese style. The booths have cushions that do not match the colour scheme of the rest of the Bistro and the little white vases atop the tables contain sad looking plastic flowers, which admittedly I found off putting. There were metal chop sticks on the table that looked chic but seemed evident were going to cause eating problems, we were offered forks though, we did of course refuse. Seated before 2:00PM mean't we were able to order a Lunch Bento. I ordered the Kokoro Bento ($19) which came with Prawn Tempura Udon, assorted nigiri, fresh Edamame, Prawn Gyoza, Japanese salad, Wakame and white Mochi. My lovely friend ordered the BBQ Pork Bento ($18) which came with Stir fried pork & steamed rice, Miso Soup, Edamame, Japanese salad, Wakame and white Mochi. We were both delighted when the friendly gentleman presented our Bento Boxes to us! They were a larger serving than the usual Bento box and very well presented, I should also add that the meals were brought out approximately ten minutes after we ordered. I was so excited looking at this meal, it honestly looked like perfection on a plate...well in a box. My prawn tempura was crispy, the noodles were packed with flavour from the clear, complex broth it bathed in. My Edamame was NOM-alicious! I don't think I have ever had prawn Gyoza I have ever enjoyed that much and the dipping sauce that came with it was so robust, once I finished my Gyoza I poured the remainder into my udon because I couldn't part with it! The nigiri was fresh and well constructed. The Wasabi was the moist, strong variety. The pickled ginger still had crunch and gingery pa-zang. Even the Japanese salad was incredibly flavourful! I am not a big fan of Mochi, but this white Mochi was wonderful! My friend compared it to butterscotch pudding, which I felt was extremely accurate. It wasn't sickly sweet like Mochi can be either, it was just right with a smooth texture, it seemed to be stored in freezer judging by the temperature of it. I didn't taste my friends stir fry or her Gyoza but I can tell you she felt the same as I did, loved them both, as well as agreeing that all the other elements were delectable. After our meals, we both felt satisfied and even though we had eaten a lot we didn't feel over full or stuffed! Actually, we discussed making Kokoro Bistro our go to place for our get togethers in future. It is hard to find somewhere that has great atmosphere, immaculate food and friendly service. The waiter didn't check up on us at all and he forgot to bring us the cheque even though it was requested. The reason I have not given five stars is because the service was lacking, decor issues, and the metal chop sticks made it difficult t eat even for a chop stick connoisseur. They may seem like relatively small grievances, but perfection does demand no grievances. All in all, I can safely say I am a fan of this place and am pleased I have discovered it. I'm eager to taste the yummy sounding dishes on their dinner menu, I'm looking at you Bulgogi!

We started off with the agedashi tofu which I liked very much. The tofu cubes came out golden brown and I loved the consistency of the potato starch that was on the outside. It is served in a hot broth made of dash, miring, and Japanese soy sauce and topped with negi (certain spring onion). Then we had the okonomiyaki which was OK. It had no flair and a basic savory pancake made of flour, water or dash eggs, and shredded cabbage. It is usually topped with fish flakes and can be filled with different meats and noodles but this one didn't have anything else. We had the aburi salmon and aburi scallops. I was NOT impressed by the rice that came with these dishes. They were too hard and didn't compliment the beautiful salmon or scallops as it should have. The dragon roll was OK as well. The shrimp did not have a fresh crunch for me and the eel and avocado were not as flavorful as it could have been. I would suggest adding more eel sauce. You can never go wrong with more eel sauce. We ended with a plate of vegetable tempura which was pretty good. I'm pretty picky about my tempura and think it's necessary to have vegetables that are bursting with flavor and the tempura just enhances them. I am not the biggest fan of tempura capsicum (red and green bell peppers) and prefer pumpkin, eggplant, or sweet potato. The staff were very nice and the restaurant had guests coming in and out all evening. You can also BYO as well. If you're looking for top notch Japanese cuisine, I would not suggest this place but if you're in the area and would like super nice service with decent food in a clean and low key atmosphere, stop in. Apparently it gets really crowded at dinner time on the weekends so we had a great experience with it being less busy. The servers were all cheerful, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is bright and colorful with a strong cartoony Japanese theme. Not a place I'd recommend for an intimate date (it gets loud in there!), but more for a group of fun-loving friends and/or family. We ordered a couple rounds each of chicken, beef and vegetable gyoza. All were tasty, but I personally preferred the chicken gyoza over the rest. Make sure to get your gyoza grilled, not poached! We also ordered some agadashi tofu which - word of advice for anyone with a palate like myself and the rest of my party - comes garnished with "fish flakes" which I found to be pretty atrocious. Next time I'll request it without :-) The chicken teriyaki was just okay, and very different from the teriyaki we have in California. The steamed edamame was fresh. Cute! As I wanted to go the Hakataya around the corner, and my partner wanted to get gyoza, this was the compromise. So I ordered the newly added Tonkotsu Ramen ($12). It certainly is not up to the levels I'm used to. But does the job to supplement a tray or two of gyoza.
