I brought my daughter here on Sunday May 10th for a haircut but she also wanted a few chunky light pink highlights. She told me she could do it. So I left run some errands. I came back and my daughter's hair was ruined. A foil bled and she had a bleach stain. She didn't even tone her hair. My daughter was crying. We went straight to the Aveda salon and they were able to fix it. I am so disappointed that she tried to pass off her work as acceptable. We will never come back here. There's a reason why this place is only 3 something stars. Yes, you'll get the hair cut. A trim is mediocre at best. But if you want better quality and proper styling, go anywhere else but here. As for hair color, you'll get a color for your hair but a different shade than the one you requested. A brown shade they make is the same for every light brown, moderate brown, and dark brown. For them, brown is just one color. Now as for customer service, they will welcome you for your money like any other business. But if you ask for proper repair for their inferior work, good luck talking to someone who has an ounce of empathy or proper customer experience. Stay away from this place. On a positive note, I've been going HairMasters for many years and Chau has done an excellent job in coloring, cutting and styling my hair. I give Chau 5 stars. On the negative note, management recently added cameras around the salon. I understand a camera facing the cash register, but not where I'm getting my hair done. It feels like management is spying on customers and it's employees. Are we being filmed? If so I do not consent to it. Does management not trust its stylists? It doesn't reflect a positive friendly, trusting environment for customers and stylists. Please consider removing them. read more

She always takes her time, gives me a great layered cut and is just a very pleasant person to be with. However, SHE HAS MOVED TO A NEW SALON. I've learned she is over at Shadows Hair Salon on Barranca. For anyone else that didn't know and is looking for her, she is there. Very nice salon and the price is the same. I'm a caretaker that take care of a 88 yr old woman and though she hasn't complained about the prices she had to pay before her best friend who is 90 yrs old has complained about how high she has to pay for just a shampoo and set , it's unfortunate that we can't find a salon closer I'd say in the Costa Mesa area for my clients best friend but, she comes to us and then we go together to HairMasters hopefully this won't be our last time because they really like the price they had to pay , i didn't get the woman's name who took care of my clients best friend she gave her and excellent hair cut and Kim helped my client out , my clients curl lasted longer than when she went to another salon I guess i didn't press the post review when i typed out the above but we've been back twice already and my clients love it. I came in for a shampoo, haircut, and blowdry. I requested for a layered hair cut. A blonde, young-looking hairstylist came up to me and said to follow her (I think, her name might be Ashley since that's what I saw on the name card on her booth)...I was hesitant at first because I've never had her before (I've been to this place before and had my hair cut by the Asian stylists and Diana there and I had good experience with them), but I thought it's just a layered haircut, it should be easy. Well, my hair cut turned out to be so choppy. I don't think my hair stylist knows what she's doing. It looked fine after the blow dry, but any hair cut will look good after styling and a blow dry. I could still see it looking choppy even after the blow dry, but it was worse after I already shampooed and air dried my hair. I had to have it redone in a different salon to make my hair look better. If you want a good haircut in this place, make sure to get the older hairstylists, or the Asian hairstylists...they are always so much better and an expert on what they are doing. read more

Chau has been my go-to stylist for the past 5 years (men's haircut). I only needed to explain my preferences the first time, and I've gotten a consistent haircut ever since, every two months, without having to ask her to go back and fix something after she's done. She's friendly and knowledgeable (even had a great recommendation for a hair transplant specialist that I ended up using). They were nice to me so it feels bad writing this. I had grown out my hair for 4 months for this cut. I wanted short hair on the sides and a half inch trim on the top and front, covering more than half of my forehead as I am still trying to grow my hair out further. I explained this to her twice, showed her pictures of how I wanted it, she acknowledged that she understood what I wanted and appreciated me showing the pictures and said she could do that. She was doing fine at first and then went ahead and suddenly chopped 3-4 inches from front, and then also top. And she did it as a straight bowl like line without any texture. The front is literally at my hairline with my hair fully down. I don't understand how someone can do the opposite of what the client asked. It's so short I can't even style it. This is not what I asked for, I feel like someone took away my autonomy of what I want to look like and it feels horrible. read more

I walked in this morning to this place, no one was at the front desk and all stylists were busy in the back. I looked for product I needed and did not find. I inquired about it to the first visible soul who was Courtney. She was extremely condescending as she looked at me and kept working, after I stood there for a few minutes and turned to walk out, she finally decided to reply my product was not available and pointed me to help myself to other brands.....did not even attempt to make herself available to answer any of my questions, she did not give two rats. As my transaction is rung up by another employee, I asked who was the manager of the place so I could report how rude and unfriendly Courtney was.....well, Courtney is the manager!! I am not sure why but it looks like Yelp deleted my last 5 star review so I will rewrite it. I have been coming to Hairmasters for at least 7 years now. With the exception of a couple of months where Chau was pregnant, she has cut my hair every other time. She does wonderful work and people have complimented me endlessly on the haircuts she has given me. She always makes time for appointments and is very flexible. She is pleasant and fast if you are in a hurry. If you have time, she can chat up a storm. Every haircut I have received always comes with a shampoo, and gel at the end which is perfect as many times I am going out afterwards. I highly recommend Chau if you are looking for a stylist. :-) read more

The fact I'm giving 3 stars is generous and has been my lowest rating so far on yelp. I've been coming here a while and usually had my hair done by Leila who was great but sadly doesn't work there anymore. I came in on Thursday for a wash/cut/blow dry and I did tell them on the phone that my hair is very long so that they are prepared for when I come in. The lady washed and cut my hair which was done good, but then when I asked why she wasn't going to blow dry it she said it wasn't written down and she is running late and on top of that needs to take her lunch break. A little disappointed I paid, tipped 30% in cash and walked out. I got to my car and realised how bad my hair looked without the blow dry so I went back into the hair salon to take a better look. I Walked out again absolutely furious at how they can let a client leave a hair salon with their hair in more disarray than when they walked in. I called them from my car in tears asking if I could use a hairdryer and do it myself. They told me to come back in so I did, and the lady said it's a liability for me to use their equipment so she said "I guess I'll work through my lunch break". No one else wanted to do it because it means they would have to split the tip and commission so I turned round and said no it's fine and left because I felt like the hairdresser was blaming me for them about to miss their lunch break. The hair dresser kept saying "no it's fine, I will do it" but after making me feel guilty I walked out. I will never go back here again if this is how they treat their regulars and doesn't do the job that I went in there for. On a separate note there was a lady sitting next to me not wearing a mask so for anyone who is covid-cautious I would be weary of coming here. Despite this I didn't ask for a refund for the inconvenience and I give them three stars as the price is pretty cheap and usually I have had my hair done well by different hairdressers. I also don't want to be too harsh as I understand times are tough in light of the pandemic. But the rest is the lack of organisation, incompetency and most of all their disrespect to customer service. read more
