My son is on the autism spectrum and Krystal has been the most compassionate and empathetic hairstylist. She goes above and beyond to tailor haircuts and needs for each of her clients- she even does adults haircuts (and color!). Professional, personal, and caring- which is very hard to find nowadays. I felt very discriminated against by my sons barber Aprile who to my shock I've learned, is in fact the owner! She canceled all of my sons appointments that I had scheduled in advance and dropped us as clients without notifying us all because I had to cancel our last visit. This was the first time I've ever had to reschedule and she wrongfully called it a "no show" and lied and said she emailed me that it was canceled. I drove 30 min there and even showed proof of my confirmation text and she just stood there with not a care in the world. read more

I have used this place for both of my children's haircuts for MULTIPLE years and provided so much service for them as welll as always tip well. This past time I had an appt scheduled for my son - I called the day of to RE SCHEDULE for two days later due to SNOW STORM and she told me I'd have to pay for cancelling even though I was not cancelling I was RE SCHEDULING for 48 hours later... I still ended the phone call saying if she can't find anyone to fill the spot I will pay for BOTH appts. I show up to the rescheduled appt two days later with both my children in the car in 18 degree weather just to find out she canceled my appointment, won't answer my calls, and blocked me from the portal. She read my review on yelp that I left, called me immediately to have the appt so I went and had my sons haircut and then she immediately blocked me from the portal again, so my review is going back up. Beyond terrible customer service and in general behavior? Will never return or reccomend to anyone. Upon reading other reviews on yelp this is apparently what she does. read more

Do not take your children here. The owner, April, is a horrible human who should not be working with children, let alone the general public. She cut my kids hair too short and uneven and when I (politely) asked her to fix it to my request/liking, she threatened me, my partner, then told me never to return to the salon. A bad haircut happens sometimes, but a good stylist - and human, would work to resolve the issue. This woman is nuts. We had a really great experience today with Meghan. I took my one year old for his first haircut. I chose this place because they work with babies and kids all day, every day. I was really pleased when I arrived and found that each stylist works in their own room outfitted with a TV (with the perfect kids' Netflix channels), a nice chair and, if necessary, a Bumbo seat. Meghan took a before picture and offered that if I wanted to hold him while she cut, I could. I chose to have him in the seat while I fed him the Cheerios I brought with me. While my little guy unfortunately cried all the way through the cut, Meghan handled it like the pro she is. At the end, tears were dried, after-pictures were taken, and they gave me a really cute baby's first haircut certificate with a clip of his hair. Most importantly, his hair looks perfect! Best place to bring your children for haircuts! We've been coming here since our oldest daughter (now 6) was 1 and we've never left disappointed! Beautiful and fun place for children with lots of space, beautiful rooms, and amazing play room! This is a great place to get your child's first haircut. 4 years ago we took our daughter for her first cut and just a few weeks ago took our son for his. I think the price is very reasonable for everything that is included. For the first haircut package you receive the haircut, certificate with a lock of hair and both before and after pictures, a balloon, and a treat. The waiting area is fun with a popcorn machine, comfortable seating, and lots of toys. Both children had a blast! Most importantly, the cuts are fantastic! My son has VERY curly hair and I was afraid to cut it because I didn't want to lose all the curls. After the stylist talked to me and heard my concerns, she suggested a beachy cut. This is the third time we have taken our three year old, Rocco here. The place is super kid friendly with a ton of toys to keep them busy in the waiting area. They have tv's for your little ones to watch while they are in the chair to keep them occupied. They are all very patient and friendly with the kids and also do a great job cutting hair. The only drawback I will say is it is a tad pricey. It's $15 for a kid haircut but can understand why they charge that much. I'm a fan and will keep coming back. When they are finished with their haircut they get free popcorn and a balloon. My little guy loves it here. read more

I have been taking the kids here for about 10 years, starting with the location on High Street in Fairport Village which moved to Perinton Square a few years ago. I am not sure what other places charge as it is the only place I have ever taken them and I'm completely bald! But for the social interaction alone I think it is worth it. I have only ever been seen by Aprile, the owner, who is genuine and welcoming. The boys' cuts always come out great and I have never had a reason to complain. I think they are THE place to get your kids' cuts, at least on the eastside of the Rochester Metro area and would recommend them without hesitation. read more

I'm pretty disappointed. I went in for my son's first haircut because the back was long and scraggly and he needed a trim around the ears. I showed the stylist pictures of what I wanted it to look like and told her from the beginning that I wanted to leave the top long and that I liked the top as it was. She trimmed the front and asked if I wanted it shorter and I said no that's just fine where it is, wanted the top longer because I like it how it is. Then she pulls the top of his hair up and starts snipping saying I'll notice the difference now. I was like Whaaaaa?! I withheld any more comments bc I already felt like I was overdoing it but I should have said something. She layered the top so that every piece is about an inch long instead of the 2-4 inches of length we had before that could be combed forward or to the side. Now it just sits there. UGH. Not going back here bc obviously this person just did her own thing and didn't listen to a word I said. To be fair, she did clean up the back and sides the way I wanted so they got that part right. And the 1st haircut certificate is cute. But overall pretty sad over here to not have those longer locks up top anymore. read more

We love this place! We are from out of town, but every time we come to visit family, I schedule my boys to have their haircut here. They are now 2.5 yr old twin boys, and normally, throw a fit when having a haircut. Laura K. is amazing! I call her the kid whisperer. She has the perfect temperament to work with kids. She keeps them (and us!) calm and they end up with a perfect haircut too! I wish we lived closer so we could come more often. Do not go here! What is so upsetting is that i personally know these workers! I actually serviced all of them because i too am in cosmetology! April older blonde hair is the owner, then her daughter, then Meghan and Vanessa. Brenda is the only one i liked but quit, she was the receptionist.. I brought my son for a haircut and they cut his ear! He was bleeding and she just brushed it off and told me it happened all the time. What!!!??? Are you kidding me!! Never even said sorry. I dont know if she thought it was ok because they knew me but that was not ok! Not only that, what kind of owner would say that some of the kids are brats and that the parents make them like that and that the reason is why they are a pain to cut. I never returned and they are not welcome at our salon! I will refuse service to them and everyone there! April is very negative and the girls have poor skills and service! Im making sure i let everyone read my experience because this HAPPENED to my son and it shouldve been handled differently and theres more but im just soo mad that when it comes to your kids take them elsewhere. Go across to Thomas Austen salon they do great or sweet n sassy in pittsford. They're both very reasonable. read more

I took my daughter here for her first time. She actually was about 7 at the time (this was a while ago). I wanted just some simple layers for the summer. The staff was friendly, the waiting room was very child oriented. There was a tv in the room where she got her haircut, and the woman was very nice. However, I noticed when she was done, that not much had changed about the cut. Maybe being a younger Children's hair salon, knowing how to do layers and such isn't required??? She did the normal front hair angle cut a little bit, but that was it. The rest of the hair was just sprayed with water and then she put a done up ribbon in her hair, which honestly, I could've done without because she ended up putting her hair up, which didn't show the haircut at all. She literally spent more time doing her hair in the ribbon than cutting it. The woman was really nice, so I didn't feel like popping her bubble. I just never went back there any more, though. It was kind of pricey, especially for not getting the cut I wanted. We didn't even get the balloon or popcorn offered to us that people were reviewing about.We ended up going straight over to another child's salon, paid a couple dollars more, and they totally gave my daughter a professional all over layer cut that I wanted, which I didn't even expect! I think Haircuts for Peanuts is definitely targeted for those just wanting a "first haircut experience" for their child, just not for their first (or any) "real haircut, or hairstyle" for their child. I have been taking my 3 1/2 year old to this place since his very first haircut and have always had a great experience. I prefer Aprile, I think she is also the owner. The first time I went for his "first haircut" and he was a SCREAMING MESS, but they were soooo patient and fast, fast, fast. They have booster seats so your kid can sit up high, they have TV's in front of the chairs and will put on whatever your kid watches. This helps distract them. They have a great waiting room FULL of toys, in fact, we always go about 10 minutes early so he can play and adjust. They have a popcorn machine and balloons also. I can't recommend this place enough! 2 things to note: 1. They only take cash or check, no credit cards. BUT there's an ATM right there if you need it 2. You have to make an appt. But I dont mind this because you know you can get right in. And I appreciate that they have evening and weekend hours. Their competitor is new and called Pigtails and Crewcuts, and they have a VERY young inexperienced, but nice, staff and they are not open evenings. I work full time, so this is a must for me. read more

After reading the terrible review posted earlier, I just have to say that we love Krystal at Haircuts for Peanuts. She is absolutely the sweetest person in the world and really really good to the kids- she speaks to them directly and asks them personal questions and never seems to be rushing, even though the actual appointment times are short (as compared to adult cuts). I have never heard any employee trashing any child or anyone else. Also, I must say, i have two kids and try to be pretty sensitive to others but I have definitely used the term brat myself before to describe my kids behavior or a child's behavior in general - it happens, even when we realize in retrospect it probably wasn't the best choice of words! I would probably still be offended if I heard a children's service employee disrespecting the clients like that, but for me it is just gossip because I have never heard anything like that there. I think our initial hesitation with Haircuts for Peanuts was the price ($15 for a child's cut), but a lot of regular haircut places charge that, without the kid-friendly atmosphere. For my kids, its a treat to get their haircut (toys, candy/popcorn, TV) and though we limit some of these things at home (esp. TV), I have no problem with my kids getting treated with them every month or two- they like going to get their hair cut rather than it being a chore. I think Haircuts for Peanuts is a nice setup and concept and we have enjoyed coming here with young kids. If you are thinking of coming here for the first time, I would definitely recommend Krystal. I really like the way she cuts the kids hair and as I mentioned before her personality is great too. read more
