DO NOT GO TO THIS BARBER SHOP! WARNING! Just recently moved to Rochester, NY as I am a small business owner expanding to the area. With that said, I'm all for small business's and supporting them! This is one business that I CANNOT. Looking for a local barbershop I came across Altered Image, I called before coming in an hour in advance, was told that they had barbers available anytime no appointment was necessary. They took my brother, paid a ridiculous $30+$10 (TIP) for his shape-up, but again, I support it They, then told me at 10:30AM they could get me in the chair by 11:30AM. Already I'm thinking, an hour wait and there are FOUR barbers sitting down texting and chatting not working at all? FINE. I waited the hour plus more. 11:50AM someone ELSE comes in and gets sat in front of me. At this point i said, I've been here for almost two hours now with an appt for 11:30 and people are still walking in and sitting in front of me? They just allow you to wait in their lobby and ignore you until you don't have a choice but to get up and to somewhere else! GO TO ANY OTHER BARBERSHOP! They will get you in right away and treat you GREAT! This barbershop will have you wait HOURS, IGNORE YOU, All while they sit on their phones to make sure their wives aren't cheating on them back at their studio apartments. Pathetic. Sad story for a small business. Side note. If this barbershop is the ONLY option that you have, do not get sat in the females chair, she will butcher your hair for practice. read more

Our image plays a huge role in how we are perceived, it is part of our identity, what we wear, glasses or contacts, hair cut and color, bear of clean shaven, it goes on forever. For the past few years I have spent most of my time in the chair in Pittsford at The Men's Club At Shear Ego. They have a nice set up, sports on tv, old billiards table, nice nick nacks. Well the one really good barber they have is on vacation and I needed a cut and a sheering. So, I decided to try some place else and thus along came Altered Image. Their website is a bit 1990's so don't let that dissuade you. I made an appt with Lory Aponte a few days ahead of time for an express hair cut and a groom with razor finish. I get a buzz cut but keep a full beard and have learned not to try to maintain it on my own. Just not a skill I have. This spot is tiny, four chairs and 2 for hair wash. Not much character to the place really. Pros, super comfy chairs. I'm a big dude and usually a barbers chair is a squeeze for me, these were nice. My $30 service which it said would take an hour only took my 40 minutes, it did not include a hair wash that may come with the $35 option. I did miss sitting in a massage chair with a scalp massage, so Mens club gets a point there. Lory was great, she was very intense and focused on what she was doing. She definitely came off as an expert and she did a good job. A buzz cut is pretty simple. My beard I tend to give more freedom to the barber as they are the expert. I tell them shorter by x amount and clean up\even up sides edges tops and bottoms. Lory did an ok job on the beard, not a good as my usual barber but pretty close. I'd say she made it a little less edgy then he does. It was a few bucks cheaper and over all a good experience, not sure I have found a new barber YET but I will probably give them another try. read more

I was a goofy looking lad before. Face like a babboons butt and hair like a cro-magnon era individual. However. All changed when I came here. Lawrence understood my plea to fix my bush of hair and he did just that. Gave me the freshest cut this side of the street and I finally got laid again. I've been coming to Manny for about 2 years after moving back from CA. Not even in CA have I found a barber as dedicated and talented as he is. I have NEVER had a bad experience with my cut, nor Manny. His price is very inexpensive ($20...), he is very flexible, and he is easy to work with. A fine haircut overall. He took his time, did things properly, used a razor on my neck, shaped it up a little, and has tremendous technique. Good conversation, had a nice TV in there to watch as well. My only qualm was that he left a little to be desired on the front of my hair, nothing life altering, but enough where it didn't get a 5 star outta me. I moved to Rochester and had no clue where to get my haircut. A friend hooked me up with Manny, owner of Altered Image Barbershop. Hands done best barber in Upstate. I've gone here ever since I moved to town. He will do anything you want from designs to fades to beards etc. To add the man is the funniest barber with great conversations during the cut. I was looking all over the city for someone who could do a "hair tattoo" and stumbled across Altered Image. It was really easy to get an appointment and I had the option to book online. Coming into the appointment I wasn't really sure what I wanted the design to look like, just that I wanted it to be a floral design. Emanuele was really helpful and showed me some pictures for ideas. Ultimately he decided to use one of the clip art photos I took from online. The whole time he said he rarely does designs this intricate, but in the end it turned out perfect!
