There were ceiling tiles missing, exposing all manners of pipes, the floor was torn up, there were holes in the walls, and the entire room was shaking from the washing machine running downstairs. The only things in the room are 2 roller drawers, a mirror on the floor, and an old black massage/wax table. It was... creepy? I started getting more nervous as she began working. I could tell that she was a novice, and didn't have the greatest technique. I'm not that picky though, I just needed my brows cleaned up. The basic shape is there, just follow the lines. Hell, I've gotten my brows waxed at a Great Clips before and been satisfied! Then she showed me my brows. I have never, in the 10 years I've been getting my eyebrows waxed, said anything but "looks good!" when that little mirror is handed to you to inspect their handiwork. I could not believe what she had done to me. One brow is a thin line (think late '90's pam anderson brows), and the other looks normal. My. Eyebrows. Are. Two. Completely. Different. Shapes. I'm jacked up looking, y'all. So, I said, "Woah, this one is much thinner the the other one," and she had the audacity to tell me that they're two different eyebrows so they're never going to look exactly the same. I couldn't. I mean-- what? I've had these eyebrows for thirty-two years, and they've always pretty much looked identical. Booking the appointment was quick and painless, and the associate took my card information down for a deposit on my appointment. Upon hanging up the phone, I received an emailed receipt for my deposit, as well as an emailed appointment confirmation. On the morning of our spa day, I received a text to complete an intake survey, which my sister and I separately completed prior to our arrival. We weren't sure where to park, so we parked in the closed hospital lot across the street with no issues. Though they had just opened and we were the first appointment, everything was ready for us and Jennifer could not have been nicer, greeting us, and leading us to the changing room where we received robes and slippers to change into for our services. The foot spa room was smaller but large enough for both of us to relax comfortably. The foot soak was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I have never experienced a jelly-type soak before, which was incredible, with fresh flowers and beautiful ambient lighting and comfortable lounge chairs! We were asked if we wanted champagne (a bit early for that at 10AM) but we opted for bottled water and it was promptly served to us! It was absolutely incredible, relaxing, and the results (soft, moisturized, and glowing feet) were spectacular. I also received my fall facial from Alexis, and I was very happy with this as well. She informed me of some dryness issues of my skin, and recommended that I return for a hydrating facial, which I will definitely consider booking in the near future. The extractions were not so fun, but the results were fantastic- my face was so soft and glowing, even a couple days later. Checking out was easy and very transparent, and we were given another bottle of water for our drive home. I recommend this spa wholeheartedly for anyone needing a day of pampering, or a fun date/outing with a partner or friend or family member. I visited Vanity Box Boutique for a free/open to the public Spring Makeup event. My mom and I went…read morearound 6 pm and met with the owner Lauren. While guests were getting their makeup done and learning Spring makeup tips and tricks, we shopped around the boutique. The space is really big, and she curated really cute clothes, jewelry, and accessories. She also sells Jane Iredale makeup which I just learned about for the first time! The clothes were reasonably priced for a boutique, and there was a mix of comfortable basics to dresses. I also loved the waterproof, gold jewelry that she gets from Paris. There is a fitting room in the back, and I tried a couple things on. We browsed through the makeup and skincare products, but really learned a lot when it was our turn to get our makeup demonstration. Lauren the owner and Dessa (another incredible makeup artist) tried different Jane Iredale products on my mom and I. They both did an amazing job! Lauren explained that the Jane Iredale products are clean, vegan, and actually good for your skin. She also told us there is no talc in her products. The eyeshadow blended so nicely and didn't crumble or fall below the eyes. It was fun to learn about and we left with beautiful makeup! We bought a few of the makeup products, and Lauren ordered a BB cream for my mom that she was sold out of. The boutique is comfortable and Lauren is great. I loved that she hosted this party so we could check out the space! It seems like the boutique is really known for their facials. I found out about it from my friend who raved that she got the best facial ever at Vanity Box. I definitely plan to book a service in the future. I recommend checking out the boutique and getting your makeup done here for an event! It is conveniently located right on Butler Street near 40th Street.
