It felt nearly impossible for me to find a hairstylist outside of South Korea who could make my hair look good (without burning a large hole in my wallet), but I'm sooo happy to have found Jenny. When I cut my hair at Cody, the owner cut it so it was pretty - but when it grew out, it was horrendous. The owner here layered my hair and this is the first time I really was in love with the way a person layered my hair. She cut it so when my hair grows out, it's not awkward. So feminine and soft - and quick. She did raise prices for cuts to $50, but it's because they're putting into place sanitizing, extra face masks, etc. She was so busy with so many phone calls - I can only imagine the amount of work she will have to do in order to make up for the months she was out of work. My bf sister (17) and I were quoted $300 and $280 for our services, but upon arrival, the prices were raised to $320 each, with an unclear explanation from the manager. Despite this, I trusted them with a larger service involving a haircut and balayage. I explained my desired cut to both the manager and stylist Kevin, emphasizing layers and a shorter front. Unfortunately, the haircut I received was uneven, slanted, and not what I asked for. When I pointed out the issues, Kevin initially asked me to wait until he finished eating before making adjustments. Even after "fixing" it, the haircut was still slanted and shorter than I wanted. To make matters worse, I felt uncomfortable and disrespected during checkout. I tipped $10 despite my dissatisfaction, only to overhear the stylist complaining to the manager in another language about the tip amount while I was standing right there. The manager then attempted to shame me by comparing my tip to someone else's $80 tip and lecturing me about tipping etiquette, which I found highly inappropriate. I left feeling disrespected, unhappy with my haircut, and disheartened by the unprofessional behavior. I expected better from a salon I previously trusted, and trusted with a family member. My boyfriend's sister was in tears over her hair color, leaving completely disappointed with both the haircut and the color. Fortunately, my haircutter Connie moved nearby to Oriental Stylist (東方名剪), a clean, small shop with eight salon chairs -- a few doors over from Maxi's Noodle -- in early October. Although most barber shops and salons in the area seem to be Mandarin Chinese only, Connie fluently converses in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. She is available by appointment only. Connie is meticulous and timely in her work, and her pleasant demeanor make each haircut a quick, relaxing experience. A face mask is required for entry to the salon; the mask is hooked to the barber cloth for the duration of the haircut. A haircut with wash is $13, and includes a brief, comfortable head message during the application of shampoo. Please tip generously if you are able. Five stars -- for Connie.
