I don't have a regular hairdresser - with hair as bad as mine you just tend to give up. I also didn't really understand that most hairdressers are fully booked up weeks in advance. Hence leaving it until two days before needing an appointment to try booking one is a big no-no. After ringing a couple of salons I was beginning to resign myself to the fact that I would just have to be my usual slovenly mess for the wedding. It was just then I noticed Twisted Scissors & Soul on Yelp and its 5 star review from Jen A. I gave it one last go and contacted them. Unfortunately Twisted Scissors & Soul were fully booked too but they offered me the option of a wash and blow dry with their Trainee Jordan. I was delighted at this and quickly booked an appointment. A modern, stylish salon with skull wallpaper and ornate silver framed mirrors, Twisted Scissors & Soul is super cool. Luckily it's also super relaxing to visit and boasts two Stylists and a Beautician. Plus there's the wonderful Trainee Jordan. Jordan washed my hair with volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner. She give me a fantastic blow dry (referred to in-house as a "Wendy") and left my normally fuzzy, extremely fine hair looking smoother, fuller and much, much better. I was absolutely delighted and have already booked a return appointment to get my hair cut. A superb Salon with a great team of staff who helped me out in my hour of need. On my second visit my now platinum blonde hair was dyed an inch away from the root and I fixed it myself with hair lightening bleach. On my third and final visit after my hair had broken off all around my hairline, the stylist blamed everything but her work for the damage. When she finished I actually said ' I hate it' while still sitting in the chair in earshot of all the other clients in the salon. When she tried to start to fix it the lady boss told her no and if she did anymore to it I would be charged more. The salon is filthy and on all occasions I have had to clean my shoes when I got home. I have a bald spot on one side of my head and have lost more than 4 inches of my hair in an effort to salvage what's left of it. I have since sourced another salon with whom I have booked an appointment to fix my in their words 'severly overprocessed hair' after lockdown. The salon offers a simple walk in policy and apparently a 15 minute wait is pretty much the maximum that it ever takes. After a minute of explaining what I wanted, I was asked to take a seat and then brought over to the main cutting area. It's a long, bright room done out with gilt wallpaper which was a bit disconcerting at first. The hairdresser was attentive and cut the hair as requested, even going a bit shorter at the back when I asked. They didn't have a price for this particular cut as it's a mostly female clientele but as it only took a few minutes they only charged me £6. As reasonable as any barber I've been to. They never let you leave without your hair looking on point. Parking can be quite difficult during the day as its busy with students parking close to Queens. The training nights start 5.45pm and I can always find a close space. There are many qualified people in here's. They have been part of numerous Loreal colour competitions. The salon is the only Vintage (with a rockabilly twist) hair salon in Belfast and perhaps Northern Ireland. In fact when I talked to the ladies, we got to thinking it might just be the only one in Ireland so you lucky Belfast ladies (and gents) should take advantage of this gem on your doorstep. The decor is like a dream. All shiny big black and white tiles, glam mirrors with bulbs around them, ornate frames, vintage dress on busts- look closer and you'll see some rock 'n' roll twists like the fender on a luscious leopard print seat, day of the dead skulls and foxy pin up ladies adorning the wall above the sinks. I loooove it. But the most important thing about this, indeed any salon, is the quality of the hair stylists themselves. And luckily the ladies at vintage rocks rock! Clare Afshar, the head stylist and owner gave my friend Susan a fantastic cut which had people gushing all day! The lovely Kathy McLean did my mop and was happy to talk me through some options and helped me decide on a cool chop. Kathy also advised on an excellent aftercare product- Black and White Pomade for messing up hair without weighing it down- apparently Johnny Cash used it- get that!!! All the stylists at Vintage Rocks have knowledge of vintage and artistic cutting for weddings, formals, fashion shows and photoshoots. Personally I'd love to get a voucher for a place like this for a girlie pampering and think it would make an awesome birthday pressie. There's also some cool handmade jewelry under the counter that might float your boat. For only £35 each (for a wash, cut and blow-dry) we went away feeling very pleased with ourselves.
