I think I spent around 4 or 5 years looking for a brilliant stylist who would actually listen to me and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Then I found Bliss in my own backyard. Its owner, Julieann, is the only person I will EVER let near my hair now. And at £7 for a funky style, just the way I like it, it's become absolute favourite hairdressers. The staff are lovely and you're always guaranteed to have a laugh when you visit as they talk about what they did last weekend!

The salon offers a simple walk in policy and apparently a 15 minute wait is pretty much the maximum that it ever takes. The selection is simple...there are 3 options competitively priced...cut, cut and blow-dry, cut colour and blow-dry. So no confusion there. After a minute of explaining what I wanted, I was asked to take a seat and then brought over to the main cutting area. It's a long, bright room done out with gilt wallpaper which was a bit disconcerting at first. The hairdresser was attentive and cut the hair as requested, even going a bit shorter at the back when I asked. They didn't have a price for this particular cut as it's a mostly female clientele but as it only took a few minutes they only charged me £6. As reasonable as any barber I've been to. Pros: No booking necessary. Friendly staff. Cons: Mainly for female customers.

The salon is the only Vintage (with a rockabilly twist) hair salon in Belfast and perhaps Northern Ireland. In fact when I talked to the ladies, we got to thinking it might just be the only one in Ireland so you lucky Belfast ladies (and gents) should take advantage of this gem on your doorstep. The decor is like a dream. All shiny big black and white tiles, glam mirrors with bulbs around them, ornate frames, vintage dress on busts- look closer and you'll see some rock 'n' roll twists like the fender on a luscious leopard print seat, day of the dead skulls and foxy pin up ladies adorning the wall above the sinks. I loooove it. But the most important thing about this, indeed any salon, is the quality of the hair stylists themselves. And luckily the ladies at vintage rocks rock! Clare Afshar, the head stylist and owner gave my friend Susan a fantastic cut which had people gushing all day! The lovely Kathy McLean did my mop and was happy to talk me through some options and helped me decide on a cool chop. Kathy also advised on an excellent aftercare product- Black and White Pomade for messing up hair without weighing it down- apparently Johnny Cash used it- get that!!! All the stylists at Vintage Rocks have knowledge of vintage and artistic cutting for weddings, formals, fashion shows and photoshoots. Personally I'd love to get a voucher for a place like this for a girlie pampering and think it would make an awesome birthday pressie. There's also some cool handmade jewelry under the counter that might float your boat. For only £35 each (for a wash, cut and blow-dry) we went away feeling very pleased with ourselves. And I got a yummy chocolate bun. Win! Come here if you want a haircut that stands out from the crowd. I'll definitely be recommending this place to all the cool ladies I know. They never let you leave without your hair looking on point. Parking can be quite difficult during the day as its busy with students parking close to Queens. The training nights start 5.45pm and I can always find a close space. There are many qualified people in here's. They have been part of numerous Loreal colour competitions. Members of the team train regularly with big named stylists in the uk. The venue is clean,bright and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The staff are all super friendly and make you feel very welcome and relaxed. The decor is a rustic mish mash of random ornaments, paintings, photographs and plants. It's really quirky and very cosy. The stylists are attentive and provide great advice on what style they feel might be best for your hair. I love the fact that they listen and aren't scissor happy like so many other places. They take time and patience and talk you through the steps they are taking. Tea, coffee and magazines are always on offer and there's always a nice atmosphere with an electic mix of music playing in the background. Hedonist really is a great spot to relax, unwind and get pampered for a few hours. It can be pricey but with such great service and talented stylists I feel it's well worth it. They provide 25% off for students and also have their own loyalty cards which you can use to get a free cut and blowdry. I'd definitely recommend booking an appointment with Hugo, he's very talented, full of knowledge and a genuinely friendly guy.
