This review is long overdue. My son, who never used to care about his hair, turned thirteen and suddenly...he REALLY cared. We had tried everything -- high-end salons, driving all the way to the OC for a trusted family stylist, and everything in between. Nothing quite stuck. Then I searched "men's scissor haircut" on Yelp and found Lisa. Lisa cut my son's hair, and we never looked back. It genuinely changed his self-esteem. She was an artist -- no clipper cuts, just careful, thoughtful scissor work. She connected with him, gave him exactly the look he wanted, and somehow turned that teenage scowl into a smile. It was more than a haircut, it was confidence. Sadly, February was the last cut she would give him. We learned in March that Lisa was ill. We had only briefly met Rochelle before, and while she was lovely, we hadn't really seen her work. Still, we booked with her, hoping -- maybe unrealistically -- that lightning could strike twice. Somehow... it did. Honestly, more like an electrical storm. Rochelle told us she was "just following Lisa's lines," but it's clearly more than that. Especially considering she stepped in after losing her friend and business partner -- that alone is incredible. She gave my son an even cleaner, slightly shorter cut, still using only scissors, and somehow kept all the texture, fringe, and movement that kids his age care so much about right now. She also finishes with a close neck shave and offers a choice of Thayer's witch hazel or a creamy toner -- it's a full experience. The location is super convenient (right near the middle school), appointments are easy, parking is simple, and everything is clean and efficient. And for anyone wondering -- a 14-year-old boy's approval is not easy to earn. This age group knows their hair. They care. They have opinions. And as they'd say, Rochelle gives a "fire" cut -- at a price moms will appreciate. You'd easily pay three times as much elsewhere in L.A. for less. Highly recommend. P.S. Rest in peace, Lisa. Lisa cut my hair that first time and two times since. Best haircuts I've ever received. Keen attention to detail and knows exactly what you're trying to achieve. I've been looking for a new hairstylist for several months since I left the area where my previous stylist had her salon. I read the reviews here on Yelp as well as the information on the Hair Razing website. I got a really good vibe and thought I'd give it a try, especially since they are right around the corner from me. Made an appointment with Lisa through their online scheduler which was super easy and reminded me about the appointment as well! REALLY COOL place and Lisa couldn't be nicer! Instead of a "cookie cutter" cut with clippers she took the time to listen to what I was looking for in a style (I'm a guy who is pretty picky about his hair) and went to work with the razor and various scissors to create not only a really cool look but one that I could easily style different ways as Lisa showed me! Way cool! Top it all off with a hot lather shave on the back of the neck and a quick neck/shoulder massage with a cool massage gizmo and I am SOLD! Lisa, you just got another long term client. I followed Lisa here from Floyd's where I was always a walk-in and was lucky enough to have her cut my hair a couple of times. Once she opened her own place I was delighted! She takes the time to make sure I look great when I leave (or at at least my hair does - the rest of me isn't her fault). She's so friendly too - the amount of time I've spent in chairs getting my hair cut and never exchanging a word with the stylist must add up to years, but I don't think I've drawn breath when she's cutting my hair. LADIES!!! Don't let the "barber" description scare you away! Let me qualify: I am a pixie-cut gal and have been styled by the best (yes, my previous stylist works on clients for red carpets and covers of many magazines!). Disaster it was not. In fact, I'm two cuts into a relationship with my new stylist, Lisa. She is so good at what she does and let me tell you, I have issues! She knows how to handle all of my hair's quirks and is not only talented with the scissors and razor, she's so sweet to boot! No, I don't get a wash before the cut (I haven't asked though...maybe she would), but I do get exactly the cut I'm looking for, plus lots of compliments when I'm out and about. Summing up the experience: - Lisa gives me the PERFECT cut - I book my appointment online...LOVE IT! - Parking is FREE in the rear lot...and you can walk right in the back door - $25...WHAT???? I found this hair salon by searching on Yelp. It is conveniently located off the 170, 101, or 134 freeways in the San Fernando Valley. I found the price for men's basic cut reasonably priced. Lisa and Rochelle have cut my hair and I was satisfied with both of them. I believe they added another member to the team recently. I love how Lisa gives you recommendations on how to style your hair and how she uses scissors. She really stays focused on your cut and makes adjustments as needed. I wanted to wait a little bit before I wrote a review. I have gone to three appointments now, all with Lisa. Before I get into it, let's just say that its definitely a 5/5 location and I have NO complaints. Appointment #1: Okay, so I have never really been one to really care about what my hair style was, mostly because I spent almost 10 years in the service and didn't really get to have a hairstyle. Now that I'm out of the service I didn't have the first idea of what kind of style I wanted. My first day I went in, I asked for a crew cut high and tight. Lisa kind of just looked at me and was like ...ummm...can I do this instead? (and showed me pictures of celebrities with similar hairstyle) Now, she didn't demand it, I'm sure she would have done what I requested, but again, I didn't know any better. So she cut my hair and at the end, I'm not going to lie, I hated it. I did not like it at all. I told her I wasn't used to having hair, blah blah blah. She said "trust me, just let it grow out a little, and tell me what you think. It'll grow on you" Appointment #2: I come back to Lisa and like she said, it started to grow on me a little. Still wasn't in love with it, but it wasn't as bad of a shock as it was three weeks prior. She trimmed and did her thing, and then she took the time to really show me how to use the product (as I never really had the need before.) Appointment #3 (yesterday): Okay, I love my hairstyle. Still don't really know what to do with it but it's a working progress. I have gotten compliments on it and I didn't realize that my hair, out of all things, my hair would be a confidence booster. Anyway, not only did my hair grow on me (pun intended) but Lisa and I started talking more and more. She was telling me about her weekend and asking me about mine, it was very relaxing....NOT TO MENTION THE MASSAGE HAND GLOVE THING at the end. Before I tell you what an amazing job she did, I should let you know that I'm very picky when it come to getting my haircut. I have spent in the past upwards of $300.00 for a haircut and the haircut that i got from Krystle was even better. I booked an appointment with Rochelle after randomly finding this place on Yelp. I was always skeptical of new hair stylists because I have difficult hair and most haircuts on me look bad (not the fault of the stylists usually, but its just my hair). Anyways, Rochelle gave me the exact cut I was hoping for and I remember walking out of there feeling like I got the best haircut that I could have hoped for. This was 2 years ago and Ive been going to her every month since and I really cant see myself swapping stylists because she is so good at what she does. So flash forward to today, and after 2 years of happily getting the same style cut (because she does such an awesome job), I decided to switch it up a little bit. We talked about what to change it to, and after we were done, I was feeling a little uncertain about how it turned out. Not because of how she cut it, but probably because I hadn't changed things up in a few years. Regardless, she told me that it probably doesn't look as bad as I thought it did (in a joking manner of course) and give it a couple days to settle in and style. If I didnt like it after that, then I could just book another appointment and she would make complimentary fixes to it. Well, shame on me for doubting her, because an hour after I get home and take a look Im already in love with it! Its just another testament to her ability to make my difficult hair look great. This review is based on service and not cut - Lost my stylist. She moved salons and hasn't updated her FB so I have no idea where she went. After days of reading reviews and deciding on where to go, I found Hair Razing. I was only a few blocks away when I decided on going, so I called. Nobody answered the phone (bad sign number one) - but they did say I could book an appointment online. Since I was driving, I didn't want to break the law, and just went there. They had a sandwich board outside that said "walk-ins welcome" so I figured, lets give it a try. Two stylists inside, both doing men's cuts, and both doing a fairly decent job. (I should say my sister is a stylist, and an educator, and I used to work for Sebastian Hair Products, so I know what good and bad hair looks like.) Neither client looked exceptional, but I don't think either wanted something special anyways. It was a typical short men's cut, so, at least it looked clean and nice. When I came in, one guy was already sitting down, and another guy entered from the back door at about the same time I entered. I sat in what must have been a waiting area. There was no reception desk. And while both stylists looked at me, neither gave me any acknowledgement of my arrival. I sat patiently, figured, at least they are giving their clients their full attention, and took in the atmosphere. The place was decorated a little cheaply, but it had the personality I like. Lots of B-Horror movie posters, plus Shaun of the Dead, Nightmare Before Christmas, and they were watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the flatscreen. Ok, this could be my new salon... Then,after about 15 minutes, and watching both stylists ring up their clients using square on their phones (hip, modern, use technology, all good signs) - they call their next clients. Then one just gives me a look, and says "and you are?" me "Just a walk in" - her "sorry, I am all booked for the entire day." other Stylist "Me too, maybe tomorrow?" Me - "Its a bad sign of a business when you don't acknowledge someone for 15 minutes and then can't help them, I won't be coming back." Also - If you don't have anymore walk-in space available - Bring in the Walk-ins Welcomed sign. Finally - for a laugh, I logged on the website. Sure enough, I could have booked for one of them for 6:30pm. It was 4:30 at the time. If she had told me that, I would have taken it, gone and grabbed a bite, and come back. When I realized that I could have just booked for 6:30 online, and she didn't offer it to me, it bothered me even more. Then I got my hair destroyed by a second salon. Finally went to a third place that fixed it. But anyways, the work they were doing looked nice, but I won't ever know - CUZ THAT SERVICE SUCKED. read more

Lisa gave me a great cut, and it was so easy to schedule the appointment online! She's a great conversationalist (has a degree in Psychology) and really knows what she loves. The difference I experienced with Lisa compared to any other places I've been is that she cuts hair according to how it's GOING TO grow out. She cuts hair for later, not for right now. This kind of knowledge and communication about what she's doing is rare, and you don't get that, even from a big-box chain place. The little gadget massage thing and the hot towel are nice touches too! Great experience, I'm looking forward to going back! I've travelled near and far looking for that haircut that's *just* right. Usually, I find someone at a retail hair place that does a good job. You know the one, it's spot on about 8 out of 10 times.
