I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jen Dawn. She absolutely knocked my hair out of the park, and I left her chair genuinely obsessed with the result. The color came out beyond beautiful. The blending, dimension, placement of the pink and mauve tones, and the way everything flows together is seriously stunning. It looks intentional, polished, and expensive -- not flat or overdone. You can tell Jen has an incredible eye for color and pays attention to every little detail. What makes her even more special, though, is the way she treats you while you're in her chair. She is kind, patient, attentive, and genuinely cares about making sure you leave feeling good about yourself. I felt listened to, comfortable, and completely taken care of from start to finish. Finding a stylist you trust is such a big deal, and I am so grateful I found her. Jen is incredibly talented, but she's also just a truly lovely human being. I walked out feeling refreshed, beautiful, and more confident -- and I have not stopped admiring my hair since. Five stars honestly doesn't feel like enough. I would recommend Jen in a heartbeat. She is an absolute gem, and I will happily trust her with my hair again and again. read more

Gary is a Miracle Worker! I went from unwanted 50% grey when several other salons just turned me blond with marked growth lines, or worse orange with growth lines. He fixed it all with a Weave in colors that don't look "fake". The cut is ideal, too. Highly Recommend!!! read more

I get my hair cut here, but I typically take my kids to places like Supercuts, because it's a little cheaper, but my daughter and even my son noticed my hair cuts after coming back from Gary (the owner) and over time, both kids asked if they could start going to Hair Is as well. So now all three of us see Gary. He's a nice guy, and has been cutting hair for quite a few decades. His father owned a Salon as well, so it's definitely in the family. After master cuts closed in Chico mall thanks to the beautiful people. Two of the gals from there moved to Hair Is. Krystle and Amy now work there. Thanks to the owner Gary. I almost don't want to leave a great review because I like being able to schedule easily- but I must. Gary at Hair Is, is by far the best hairdresser I have ever found in Chico. He LISTENS!!! He is the only person that has been patient enough to hear me out, then use his skills to bring my hair from thought to vision. He uses great products and is very personable. I love my cuts, and my hi/low-lights. His prices are amazing considering his experience and years in the business. The place is not a spa, so don't go expecting that. It's a basic salon with real talent. **I think whoever left that poor review is a competitor. For one, they wrote "every time i go in"- why would someone keep going in if they were unsatisfied? Chico has a bazillion salons. And two, they are anonymous- why would someone be afraid to post under their name if they are giving an honest review? anyway.... If you get your hair cut with Gary, he will accept payment with a credit card. If another stylist does the work, you may have to pay with cash. Bree doesn't take credit cards, for example. When I decided to go blonde I called Carrie because she did the color of a coworker's hair that I was in love with. I couldn't believe how in love with my hair I was after. Admittedly I am a biased customer because I only found this Gem by following my amazing stylist Liese when she moved shops. However I personally could not be happier with this location. They offer lots of services -hair, nails, waxing and so on. It's a spacious shop with plenty of chairs and stylists and excellent coffee, filtered ice coldwater, and plenty of reading material and style books in case you need a little help deciding. Liese is always ready to try something new or offer advise on products and styles. She has done an amazing job with my highlights and lowlights and sculpts a perfect brow. The rest of the staff always seems to have a smile and happy clients as well. If you need something new and exciting you should give Liese a call. But not too often or I won't be able to get an appt. read more

Bree Schmidt did my wedding hair last week, she also did ALL of my 6 bridesmaids and she did an amazing job! It only took 30 min per girl and she came out to my moms house, set up all of her stuff which worked out great since we wanted to drink mimosas. Bree listened to each of my friends and followed magazine pictures they brought, everyone had different hair and they looked great! 35-40$ a girl, such a deal. read more

Bree Schmidt is an absolute pro. A class-act, with skills and credentials that would place her in the upper-ranks even in San Francisco. I was pleasantly suprised to find her here in Chico. For the student or young professional on a budget this place is pretty decent. The problem I had is that several of the stylists had issues returning calls. I've been here at least 5 times. Also, the stylists are operating on a basic beauty license and the people I've been to here don't seem to get additional training or classes to keep up with new trends and techniques in the industry. But hey, I guess you get what you pay for. It's still a decent place to go for a simple cut and color. If you want something more Chic, more complex, then choose your stylist accordingly. read more

Waited for 30+ minutes to get helped. Sat down to get eyebrows done, and was told that the wax was too hot and had to cool down so that I would need to come back in an hour or more. Terrible costumer service with no consideration when it comes to wasting patrons time. Not worth your time or money. read more

I love getting my hair done at Hair Is in Chico. The people who work there are really friendly and steady. I get my hair done there once each month and my hair always looks great. Bree Schmidt is my stylist and she is the best, as far as I'm concerned. I am not the type to post reviews, but this is an outrage. Meredith assured my girlfriend she would be able to lift the red out of her hair in no more than one session. She attempted to strip the red out of her hair and completely damaged it. Not only was she not able to successfully take the red out of her hair, she cut way too many inches off. Her hair is now choppy, level, blunt, and flat at the ends. All in all, she couldn't correct her hair color, cut her hair way too short, made the ends too flat, and extremely damaged the hair in the process. My girlfriend will never return back to the store. Bree is an amazing stylist and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. She did my hair for my wedding and it was nothing short of fabulous. She listens to what a client wants and needs, and creates magic every time. She's taken me from brunette to blonde and back again, and she even color corrected my hair after I cheated with a drug store box of hair color. She's always learning new things and keeps my hair looking fresh and cutting edge. I would always recommend her services to anyone, as she is by far the best stylist in this town. i love this place! it was my first time here but i will definitely be going back. i'm a college student and i wasn't sure who to go to for my eyebrows so i went to the mall. the lady there totally messed them up. once my eyebrows needed to get done again, i decided to go to Hair Is. Sarah booked my appointment for the same day i called and she was also the one who did my eyebrows :) she was so sweet and talkative and made me feel totally comfortable. the salon is so neat and clean and has such a good vibe to it. i can't wait to get my hair done here next!! read more
