I booked this appointment for a very special day -- both my birthday and a close friend's wedding -- so I was really hoping to leave feeling confident and excited. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When the stylist first showed me the finished look, it was nowhere close to the inspiration photo I had provided. I asked her to redo it while I was still there, which she did, but even afterward, as I got ready later, I found many sections that were only partially curled or not curled at all. The curls near my crown -- an area I had specifically asked to be tighter -- were already falling. There were also no twists from my front pieces into the ponytail, as shown in the photo I provided, and in pictures I noticed the ponytail was splitting into two and wasn't centered. When she showed me the second, redone version, between not having enough time to request another redo and already feeling uncomfortable from our earlier conversation, I felt forced to leave with it as-is. Without the tools she had used, I ended up redoing a large portion of my own hair, purchasing products to fix it, and rushing through the rest of my getting-ready process on what should have been a happy, stress-free day. During the appointment, a conversation also left me feeling uncomfortable. When asked about my work, I shared that I'm a retired police officer who now runs a pet care business, and that I feel very blessed it's going so well. She replied, "Oh, blessed, huh?" and called it "an interesting word to use." When I asked why, she questioned whether I go to church. After I said not very often, she commented it was "interesting" I'd use the word blessed if I didn't attend regularly. I explained that I do believe in God, and her demeanor noticeably shifted before she said, "Oh well, never mind, that's good you believe in God." It felt unnecessarily personal and judgmental in a professional setting. After the appointment, I texted her to express my disappointment. I did not ask for any refund or compensation, despite having to redo most of my hair and buy products to fix it, but I never received a reply. I believe honest feedback is important, and unfortunately, between the quality of the style, the uncomfortable nature of that conversation, and the lack of follow-up, I cannot recommend this stylist. read more

Pam did such a great job with hair on my wedding day! She did mine, my moms, and 3 of my girls hair and they all turned out amazing. She came to our airbnb the day of with another women that helped her and they made great time getting us all done. Her prices are great and she is so kind and friendly to work with! Something I was unsure of though was during the trial run, my hair didn't really look how I thought it would. She would say things like, "on the day of the curls will be tighter," or, "This will be sprayed better". Now I'm a visual person, so if I'm not seeing it in front of me I have a hard time picturing it. When talking to some of my friends that do hair they said that its normal to not do the full up-do during the trial run though. Maybe I'm just being picky, but still I'd like to see the full product before signing a contract so I know what I'm buying. In the long run it didn't even matter though, because I ended up changing what I wanted done to my hair and it turned out absolutely gorgeous! I mean look at the picture, its stunning and it held up amazing all night. It didn't feel loose and everything stayed exactly where it was suppose to until I took out all of the bobby pins. I definitely felt like a princess with this hair! Pam also did makeup for me, my mom, and 1 of my girls. When I was doing my trial hair run I asked to do a trial make up run and she said she would, but that she wouldn't be the one doing the make up the day of the wedding. However, on the day of the wedding she was the one doing the makeup. Not sure where the makeup person was. I really liked the makeup, it stayed on well, and she gave us a little extra lipstick to take with for when ours wore off. The only thing is that in some pictures I feel like it makes me look older than I am, and that may just be due to the lighting and nothing with the makeup. Pam was amazing! I had trial run for wedding in Glen Ellyn weeks before eloping at Hawk Valley Retreat in Galena. Pam did phenomenal job on both hair and make-up so I knew my wedding day would be stress free! Pam was attentive, understood my preferences, and was reasonable with charges. My hair looked beautiful! Pam does a great job with hair. Myself and my bridesmaids received many compliments and were very happy with the results. She was able to travel to the location of our wedding to do our hair which was a great benefit. I was upset with the way Pam handled the business side of things. She was not upfront with costs. She asked me to look for an old check on my already busy wedding day as she was not sure if she had cashed it or not (She had) and then asked me to add the amount of the check to the balance just in case. She then tried to grossly overcharge me as she had added incorrectly and further asked me for more money that she hadn't included upfront following the wedding. I would advise you to cover costs with her ahead of time and get it in writing, and know exactly what you're paying for. Her abilities with hair were great but dealing with these added stresses on your wedding day was less than enjoyable. read more

When my daughter was married in Galena, the owner of Hair I Do's, Pam, came to the house and created amazing beautiful hair designs on the bridal party. My daughter was absolutely stunning! Pam was very patient and professional with us and kept things moving to finish all 10 or so of us on time. As my daughter stated, Hair I Do's was by far, "the best vendor she worked with" for her big day. I have since moved to Galena. Initially, my first haircut after moving here was at another salon in town. I decided that I needed to try others. Then, I remembered Hair I Do's. Hair you shouldn't! This was one of the most horrible experiences I have ever had with hair and makeup artists. 1) they were very unprofessional - we had them come on location and the area what we designated to have our hair and makeup done were upstairs...one of the hairstylist were not able to walk up the stairs to do the work. Risking the Groom seeing the Bride. - they arrived late -makeup artist was Mary Kay rep and tried to sell us on product 2) Work was NOT WORTH what they charged - hair styles did NOT last the entire day. - in an enclosed area, climate control hair styles should last at least an hour...Hair was falling out within an hour. - Makeup...many of us stated we could have done ourselves but, better. - we ended up doing our own makeup RIGHT AFTER the makeup artist finished...As a complete novice at makeup, and have had professional makeup done, I seriously could have done better doing my own makeup 3) PAMELA, the owner, to whom came late, never apologized for being late. She was extremely RUDE -She hunted the BRIDE down as she was getting ready. While photos were being made and went as far as trying to interfere with PHOTOS! -As bridesmaids we tried very hard to make the bride's day and tired to settle the bill but SHE REFUSED to allow us to settle it. INSISTED in talking to the bride which BECAUSE PAM WAS LATE, the bride was moments from walking down the isle. - TRIED TO OVER CHARGE US. to settle the bill she wanted over $500 when the remainder of the bill was only $260. Bride maid paid for their own hair and makeup done. Hair I do made well over a grand BEFORE the bride total that day they made $1260 so why would she try to over charge us. - why would she hunt the bride down relentlessly for $260? It must be because she was trying to take advantage of the fact that it was high stress BECAUSE SHE ARRIVED LATE...and that we would give her $500 just to get rid of her. 3) They did not tell us that they did NOT accept credit cards. - when over charging for services perhaps you should consider taking credit cards. - they didn't tell us that they didn't accept credit cards but when we first went to her salon she told us something different.
