I'm surprised to be reading so many similar experiences to mine, particularly with this salons bad customer service. I booked an appointment for a consultation, cut, highlight and style, with my mom who requested the same thing. Keep in mind it was $400 EACH for both of us. For starters, I felt like an inconvenience during my consultation (which I paid for) with the manager Joe, as he gave little input and just stood impatiently until I picked a colour. He didn't seem like he cared about his job at all, his vibe was off and he kept rushing away/disappearing for long periods throughout the process. He called my cowlick/sidepart "annoying," and randomly grabbed my phone out of my hand while I was texting and put it on the table (very odd). He also repeatedly insisted that our shampoos were awful, dramatizing the SLIGHT "heat" coming from our bleach foils to then hint towards his salons products. He also disappeared and left the foils on one side of my head for too long, which became apparent when one side came out slightly brighter. My hair looked nice... though almost the exact same as before and somehow streaky/uneven--NOT worth $400. Turns out, the right side of my hair was in fact an inch longer than the left... which I ended up fixing myself after being gaslighted by Joe who did a sloppy job. ALSO, my poor mom (her stylist was the owners wife, Amy) received unblended GREY highlights instead of the blonde ones she asked for, that looked nothing like her reference photo and aged her 10+ years. Amy quickly vanished when she saw the look on my mom's face--she KNEW she f'd up. With this coming from the OWNERS of the salon , we were both fed up and just left because we didn't want to deal after spending 5 hrs in there already. Overall, it was very overpriced ($800+ together) plus their customer service & performance quality was a HUGE let down. The only good thing about this place was the coffee lol. Expert at colour but not the cut! I stopped by this salon and had a really positive experience. I booked an appointment with Rigo and he was really nice. If you speak Spanish, definitely ask for Rigo so you can practice. THE APPOINTMENT: The Consultation: Rigo and I had a consultation and decided to dye my hair a darker red and add highlights. The Colour: Rigo definitely delivered on the highlights. I've been to other salons where they do the highlights and follow with dye washing out the highlights. Here, Rigo did both steps simultaneously and I can definitely see the highlights in the finished look. The Cut: The cut was ok. Rigo cut my hair well but I did notice one part that was a little long. It appears like the longest part of my hair is actually off center. I told him this after my appointment but he assured me I was wrong. Now that I've had the cut over a week I can confirm the part I thought was longer is a bit longer. He was also behind schedule of about 30 minutes and rushed at the end of my appointment and forgot to give me face shaping strands around my face. This is something I asked for at the beginning and he forgot. I noticed when I was home and I wasn't going to drive 2 hours to have him fix it. Would I go back? I probably would not go back. The salon is far from my house and I recently found my stylist from years ago who is the best hair dresser I ever had. Would I Recommend this salon for colour? Absolutely! Rigo did a great job on my colour. Rating: 3 stars--The salon was pretty average. The cut was mediocre (2 stars) and the colour was fantastic (5 stars). read more

Please never get your haircut here. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else. Even the person supervising my cutter was super rude and told her it was perfect and just looked at me and asked what I use on my hair and when I hesitated he said bc it's so dry and I hadn't worked for a year so I said I hadn't cut it in a while and he just walked away. He OKAY'D a complete butcher job. I went in with a blunt cut and came out with a mushroom cut and bangs cut all the way back to my ear UPWARDS! The longest part being in the front. I haven't gone to work for 2 days as I am too embarrassed. read more

I went to this salon a couple days ago to have my hair dyed and cut , they curled it for me before leaving , a couple days later , I called them because I washed and straighten my hair , when I was finished straightening my hair and could see the cut I was NOT happy at all, so after calling them and asking for a refund just for my cut and showing them my hair , that actually looks like it was butchered, they said they don't do refunds and someone would fix it , why would I want to go back to the same place and have my hair done there again , after they left it looking like this . Very sad that it hurts them that bad to return $100-150 dollars , after I paid $500 for a cut and colour. read more

I've been going to this place for around three years and seeing Renee. My hair has a coarse texture to it and is really thick, not a lot of hair stylist know how to properly handle my hair. I went from a dark hair color to highlights do platinum blonde and Renee didn't even do much damage as she recommended this method and trims as well. If you are looking for a hairstylist that can work with coarse unruly hair I recommend you call or go to Hair Dynamix and see Renee! read more

I had a terrible experience with this salon. WORST decision to go there. The employees are rude and unprofessional. They never once expressed there policy or return so I just wasted close to $400, no refunds or complimentary touch up. A complete waste of time and most importantly money, I was under the impression I was going to receive a "platinum" blonde look all over, my hair came out grey/black and with so much root showing! I understand root is hard to cover up especially in one appointment but to spend close to $400 and come out the same as when I came in, is so upsetting and frustrating. When I called the salon back to express my worries, I wasn't taken seriously. It was all 'she said' scenarios and the manager wasn't trying to accommodate whatsoever, they were very rude and basically told me what I was feeling was wrong and that even tho I wasn't happy, the $400 was worth it. Either way I was not happy with the outcome and tried to have a solution but with the way I was treated I do not want to step foot in that building. Matt is like Edward Scissorhands. I had a cut and colour I wasn't happy with and he went in and fixed it to be exactly like what I had wanted. I have a lot of thick hair, and he went it to texture it out perfectly with volume and movement. So happy!! Thanks Matt!! read more

I've been coming to Hair Dynamix for close to 15 years, I think. I've gone through a few stylists as I've felt from time to time that I needed to switch to someone else for various reasons...that's the way it is with hair. :) For the last few years I've been going to Nilo and she is just lovely. I don't really enjoy getting my hair cut, to be honest, but she makes it a lot easier. Always have received good customer service here. I've been reading over some of the extremely negative reviews posted here and quite frankly am astonished by them; never once have I experienced or witnessed anything close to some of the horror stories some people are reporting. I suppose every business has some bad days, but some of these seem extreme. Never have run into anything remotely like that. read more

I really like this place and I really like Renee my stylist. I'm just sorry I hadn't discovered it earlier. It's a really good vibe and everyone who works there looks like they live what they do and they all get along. I like how they have a balcony upstairs overlooking the reception area....Gives it a very European feel. :) Had my hair coloured twice already (in the last two months) and Renee did a great job. I love the fact that they are so close to home for me...I'm hope to try some if their spa services at some point .... read more

This salon and spa is absolutely amazing! My hairdresser is Amy and she is fantastic. She really listens to what you want and makes sure you are 100% happy. I was having a hard time finding a hairdresser who would do highlights how I wanted them, but I explained it to Amy and she got it right away. My highlights look fantastic! I also went to her for my updo for my wedding day. I brought her some pictures as inspiration and I was blown away by what a great job she did. It was way better than the pictures that I brought! I literally could not have been any happier. I should also mention she has a lovely disposition and is very kind and calm - perfect for a bride! I also got my makeup done by Kelly for my wedding day, who was also fantastic. She was very nice and my makeup looked great! She was very professional and the makeup was exactly what I wanted. It lasted all day and looked amazing in the pictures. I would highly recommend Amy, Kelly and the salon in general. It's wonderful! read more

I did go back to Hair Dynamix, and am so glad I did. I was really happy with the work that was done last time, but this time it was even better. I don't think I've ever been so happy with my hair, or had a hair dresser do EXACTLY what I wanted before. (Also, Una is fantastic! Book her if you go!) Also, the customer service was great. I actually feel awful for feeling a little jaded after the last visit. Saw one of the same girls that greeted me last time, and it was about a million times better. Everyone has a bad day, and maybe I was too quick to judge. Will definitely be going back again and again and AGAIN! read more

I have been living in the beach, but finally decided to give Hair Dynamix a try. It was a wonderful experience. Carm could not have been more welcoming and the customer service outstanding. The coffee is nice touch too! Amy did my hair although she is new to the salon I highly recommend her. She did a wonderful job with my highlights. Trust me I am very picky!! The worst experience ever. My hair stylist was Amy and I bought a Groupon coupon to get there. The highlight was so bad. I asked for a cool tone blond highlight and I ended up getting half of my hair violet blue and top part brassy yellow!!!! She first said I will leave you 30 min having bleach on my head but she retuned almost 50 min after. The hair cut was even worse than highlight. I showed a picture to her which was an easy layer cut, however she just cut my tips and said done since her next client showed up. I said the cut is not what I wanted and she started to get shaky hand and ruined my hair. So I just decide to leave and do not complain. Very very bad experience :( read more

I have had my hair cut and coloured here and I give them about a 70/100....meaning about 70% of the time I'm happy with the results. Nelo is great for a cut, she listens and understands thick, wavy, long hair. For colour, I wouldn't waste the money...not the greatest experience from this place. They do have great hours, they are open till 9pm a couple nights a week. read more

When I first moved to Toronto last September, I had no idea where to get my hair done. After asking a few friends, I ended up at Hair Dynamix in the Beaches, and I've been quite pleased with this choice! I've seen two hair stylists there: Milo and Connie. Both are super nice and friendly, and know their way 'round a head of hair. I've been very satisfied with both my cut and colour every time. I was there again just two days ago! The only downside is, of course, the price. My cut and full colour sets me back $110 before tip (and before whatever ridiculous salon products I decide to buy...eep). I definitely hate spending that much on my hair, but when I like the result, it's hard to think about going anywhere else! read more

I was there for preparing for wedding. I did make up and my hear. Both were disgusting, I cleaned my face at home and did make up by myself and fix hear by myself as well. I showed pics what I want, girls just not professional at all to do what I needed. They distorted all my day plus during my make up one random women was staring at me all the time . I've been going to Joe, one of the co-owners of Hair Dynamix for over eight years. The salon has just been renovated and looks and feels terrific (it was great before, but now it is even better). Everyone here is friendly and it's a happy, welcoming, busy salon. Joe is a great colourist and he keeps up on trends and techniques, so I always feel current (or even ahead of the crowd) when I leave with my new haircut. They offer many different services and the product lines they sell are top notch. read more

I've been going to Joe for years now. Love this place. Gives me good haircuts & always have a laugh with Joe. The cappuccinos are great, too. Joe's wife, Carm, is friendly and warm as are the other staff members. Just wish it were a little cheaper. I've read some very negative reviews & am very surprised at some of the comments. I have been going to this location for over one year. I love the one who gave me my facials and the receptionists are stellar..... However, I spoke to one of the owners today who advised me that the employee who sold me a Venus Freeze maintenance package did so in error. I did not know I was supposed to get the full package first but I was most concerned that this employee did not get in trouble. Her answer was "well, I didn't fire her". Not only was she rude to me but offered me a Venus Freeze package that was more expensive than my previous salon on Yorkville Avenue, no accommodation for payment plans. I have spent thousands there and have friends asking me to refer them, will NOT RETURN. Sorry girls. read more

This place showed some promise, but I ended up being the unlucky victim at Hair Dynamix. I bought a groupon from them for a hair cut and full highlights. I met with my hair styllist who appeared to be new and I told her that i wanted caramel highlights. I have dark brown hair so she said I would have to bleach it and then put on the highlights. I asked for her recommendation on which colour would give me the caramel look and she suggested Copper. I was hesitant and told her that I didn't want my hair to turn or look orangey but she insisted that copper would give me the look I wanted. She had finished putting the dye on my hair and was just rinsing it out, when another lady came by and basically asked, is this what she asked for? My hair stylist kept saying, yes we both agreed on copper. The other lady didn't believe that I would have chosen that color because as I had suspected, my hair turned dark orange. They suggested to put another coat of color on my hair to make it appear a little darker. Round 2. Again, when it was finished, it didn't look any better. They had to call in a 3rd lady who again suggested that she needed to put another coat of color on my hair. So in the end, they bleached my hair and dyed my hair 3 times within a few hours. I was so fed up and just wanted to leave. After that week, obviously my hair was completely FRIED and DEAD. Now I have to chop off my hair to let it grow out again. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU GO HERE, MAKE SURE YOU GET SOMEONE WHO IS QUALIFIED TO COLOR YOUR HAIR. This is definitely the last time I will go here and also the last time I buy a Groupon. Shockingly bad customer service! I found the staff here - and, in particular, the owner (I think his name is Joe) - to be exceptionally rude. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life and I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. There did seem to be 1 or 2 nice stylists but they were overshadowed by the negative atmosphere in the salon. The owner cut and highlighted my hair and I was really disappointed with both. The highlights look streaky and awkward and there is awful slippage from where he checked them carelessly so the colour is uneven in some bits. The cut, which took maybe 3-5 minutes, is far shorter than I had asked for and he didn't put in any layers like we had discussed. I didn't even have time to ask him to fix it because when he finished he just walked away and got someone else to dry it while he moved on to the next customer. On top of all this, when I went to pay I was charged for toner and a more expensive stylist (not at my request and I didn't get any warning of either) and my bill came to almost $100.00 more than I was told when I booked! I'm not sure what was more upsetting: the appalling way I was treated, the way my hair looked, or the feeling that I had been ripped off and taken advantage of. Do yourself a favour and STAY AWAY from here!!! read more

I'm giving only 3 stars because I don't appreciate all the up-selling, and I especially don't appreciate the stylist using scare tactics (eg "your hair will break") to up-sell my teenaged daughter on a $60 unnecessary treatment called "olaplaex". The stylists do a great job and mine and my daughters hair look great, however watch for the hard sale tactics and if you're sending your teenager with your card, beware! I have been coming to Hair Dynamix for a decade and its literally the best service in the city. I see Matt for both cut and colour and he always delivers. What i found before i started coming here was that my hairdresser wouldn't listen to what i wanted and wouldn't recommend changes for my hair BASED on the type of hair I have. Matt always talks to me about styles that he knows will work with my hair, and steers my away from ideas i have that won't work. He makes it very comfortable to talk to him about what I want, and he's incredibly knowledgeable about product. The ladies at reception are always polite and quick with booking your next appointment. They offer you a beverage (like coffee/tea/water/cappuccino) while you're waiting. Joe and Carm run a super friendly, professional salon and I would recommend it to ANYONE looking to get a great haircut! read more

This place is likely fine for basic procedures -- root touch-ups, blow-outs, etc -- but if you're looking for a cut or colour that involves any kind of artistry or taste, avoid! I went in for an ombre dye job; the guy who did my hair was really pleasant, and worked diligently, but the result was a black-on-orange nightmare that made me look like a goth Cheeto. I emailed my complaint and, impressively, the really kind receptionist responded within the hour and booked me in the next day for a corrective session with Joe, the owner and "master" stylist. When I arrived he was instantly defensive and borderline surly: "so what's the problem? I think you look good." I said I wanted an ombre, and that an ombre involves a graduation of tones from dark to light. "What do you mean?" he asked. The "master" stylist actually didn't seem to understand the literal meaning of "ombre" , I said I wanted middle tones, from dark brown graduating into a blond of some sort. "So you want some colour in the middle there? Well, okay, but I saw the pictures you brought in yesterday and what you're asking for is not what you brought in as references." I disagreed. He slapped some light brown in between the black the previous stylist had inexplicably applied to my roots and the orange attempt at blond. He was five minutes, tops. As he worked on my hair he lamented the current cultural climate of women feeling empowered to complain about sexual harassment: "the world's population is going to plummet because a man can't check out a woman anymore. I personally would love to be harassed by a woman and tied up, what about you?" Utterly, utterly inappropriate workplace conversational fodder. He finished slapping colour on my hair and announced that someone else would wash it out. The assistant who washed my hair was great and thorough. But my hair still looked like shit. All in all, a harrowing, hugely disappointing experience. read more

My mom came here for years before I was born, I had my ears pierced here as a child, I had my first hair cut here (all more than 20 years ago now) ...I strayed for a few years while growing my hair during my teenage years but after a few hair cuts that almost put me in tears I came back to Hair Dynamix. The people are great, the service is awesome and its worth every last penny! I'm moving to Calgary soon and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with out them or my hair dresser Matt?! :( read more

Don't realize how great you have with your favourite stylist until you take your 13 year daughter to another local salon for a Happy Birthday Cut. She went for a funky cut, colour and style (complete with photo of what she wanted it to look like) and came out with a botched job and a completely different colour than requested. Made appt. to get it fixed and the owner makes the following statements: 1) your daughters hair smells like swimming pool (she last swam in July) 2) your daughter uses cheap shampoo. 3) your daughter should have used the product from our store. 4) your daughters hair is damaged - all while my daughter is sitting there while he touches and flings her hair. He said she had an apt. with a junior stylist (who should be given a firm talking too) and wants a senior person to fix it (I just walked in the day after our holidays and was given this person ) He walks away saying that he's doing nothing to fix it or that we pay another $200+ to do it properly. Hair Dynamics on Queen and Wineva. Without a doubt you give terrible customer service and if you continue to treat people like this... karma. I've never been so disappointed in a local business. Worst Experience ever. I bought a Groupon coupon to get my hair full highlight and a cut. Amy was so inexperienced and ruined my hair. Worse than that was the manager (Joe) who supposed to be the expertise. He (the manager) saw how bad was Amy's job on my hair and could not fix it. so kicked us out of the salon. If I could give this place negative stars ... I would. Joe cut my hair and he's the owner of the salon. He's cool and friendly but he's very lazy and did a terrible job on my hair. My hair was long,thick and beautiful and I wanted layers.. it's a simple cut but he chopped my hair off unevenly and it was a complete disaster. My hair is so dense and thick it needs to be thinned out and he didn't do anything to lighten it up like other stylists do. At the end he made someone else blow dry my hair and he looked tired of the whole process. He doesn't seem like he cares about his job anymore. I hope this business closes down. read more

I had a bad experience for styling I took my daughter and the first thing is that they didnt want to wash her hair the lady Samira said that they dont wash when is styling and she said that my daughter's hair was ok when I can see my daughters hair was dirty anyway she washed and told me taht was going to charge extra and said no problem and then when was the updos was the worst I think to pay for such a styling was not worthy I had to take my daughter to other hair salon to fix her hair even my daughter showed a picture but she saw it but she didnt even ask while she was doing if she was ok etc. I told SamiraI to fix a litlle and she did it worst. to pay such a lot of money for what she did was bad dont go to Samira if you really need a nice updos. read more

I went to hair dymanix today with a groupon for highlights , cut and style ! The color and cut both turned out okay but nothing special. (Especially considering the regular prices of there services)However there customer service there is TERRIBLE !!!! Probably the WORST Customer service i have ever experienced. After my hair was done i went to the cash to pay and was told it was an additional $20.00 because the stylest had to use a toner. I dont mind paying addition money for something but i dont think it should be a suprise when you pay. I should have been informed about by the stylist . When i asked the recipionest about it she said she would wave the fee. About an hr later i received a call back from the owner saying that the stylist told her i said "i needed the toner " when i never said ! And then she basically accused me of lying . She then told me "happy grouponing" and hung up on me . What kind of attitude is this especially coming from an owner of a business. The stylist who did my hair only had 1 appointment booked for the entire day ! They should be thankful for any appointment they get weather its purchaed through groupon or not . I have went there twice the first time to get high lights and the second to dye my whole head blond and get my giant hair relaxed the first time she gave me gross chunky highlights (I looked like a skunk) but luckily they washed out! They were very expensive temporary poorly done highlights. The second time the dye did not stick she insisted the color was there I asked for a second opinion and a man said my hair did not match the color I chose she had to do the whole job again. It wasn't very good either but we had been there for 5 hours it clearly wasn't getting better. The relaxing treatment didn't stick either my hair went right back to normal when I washed it 3 days later. Both times it was a women working on me. I would not recommend this place it is expensive so you expect quality but it does not deliver. read more

Walked in to get my bangs trimmed. The lady at the front desk was really friendly, but the male stylist (didn't catch his name) wasn't very friendly at all. After he was done I asked if the bangs looked a little longer on one side and he just trimmed some off one side without even really looking. When I got home and straightened them they were too short on one side and I ended up cutting them myself to even them out. I didn't feel like he put much effort into what he was doing and I got the impression he wasn't too happy that he had to cut my bangs. I probably wouldn't go back. I have always gone to salons in Yorkville thinking that they're going to be the best... but Hair Dynamix is by FAR the best salon. Matt is absolutely amazing. He understands EXACTLY what you want and has always always ALWAYS given me exactly what I want. The main reason I keep going back to see Matt is because I always leave HAPPY. I used to go to salon's and not be quite sure if I like what they've done and kind of figure it out on my own and leave with a weird feeling... but he looks, listens and puts his skill to work. I can't say enough great things about Joe, Carm, and Matt. So happy with HD. read more
