I wanted to share some honest feedback about my recent visit. I came in requesting a simple trim just above my shoulders, but instead, I received a blunt bob cut at neck level--completely disregarding what I asked for. I asked the stylist, Vision, to stop cutting the back, and she continued anyway. The back is now uneven and sticking up, and to make matters worse, she showed no professionalism or concern. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of how upset I was, and frankly, her behavior made the situation even more distressing. I had to ask her to leave because I felt a panic attack coming on. She also cut my hair straight across without taking the time to work section by section or check for balance--something any trained stylist should know to do. I've had bad haircuts before, but this one truly took the cake. That said, I want to recognize and sincerely thank Dee for stepping in and doing her best to fix what she could. Her kindness, professionalism, and calming presence completely shifted the tone of the experience. She even apologized for the other stylist's actions--something that meant a lot to me in that moment. If anyone deserves praise, it's Dee. She was truly a godsend, and I left feeling much better thanks to her. I simply hope this review is taken seriously and that the stylist involved receives both customer service training and additional education on proper cutting techniques. The shop closes at 6pm. I walked in at 5pm to get my 9yr olds hair cut. There was one customer finishing, walking out. The stylist told me that they were closed. Both employees left the shop at 5:20pm. Why? to go home early? fine! but change the closing hours because I just drove 30 minutes to get denied service! read more

Proceed with caution because what you book may not be what you get charged for. Service requested and booked was a tea tree VIP shampoo, relaxing scalp massage and signature cut. $34. Per THEIR website. Service received was a shampoo, cut and blow dry. Was charged $42 at register. When I questioned why $8 more dollars, this is where it got a little ugly. They had some other stylist come up to register and she said the blow dry didn't come with that, I say ok, but then that should have been shared before proceeding with blow dry. For $8 I can blow dry my own hair.(I didn't say this to them I thought it, as that may have been rude to say) I handed over the $42 + $6 tip and requested my receipt. Magically, the stylist figured out the $34 and gave me back the tip$ too. I guess the customer is not supposed to clarify what was being charged and why?? Why not? Why did this have to be ugly? I was not loud. I was not mean. I stood my ground and tried to understand. My hair looks good and I appreciated the stylist but now I can't go back because they don't know how to talk to their customers! read more

May I preface I have never written a review before, and I hate being that type of customer because I also work in the retail and beauty industry. But I needed to let everyone know my experience. This is the worst salon experience i've ever had. I first walk in and Joice is sitting in her salon seat yelling from the other side of the room if i have an appointment. Usually a hairstylist will come and greet me to where the receptionist desk is but okay?? Next she tells me to come to where she is and talk about my hairstyles, I show her my photos and how my hair used to look (which was a cut from another hair cuttery), she then says it's achievable. I have pretty long hair, i'm also desi so it's semi thick and straight but not coarse or curly. She cuts my hair and it looks fine, I'm not going to complain about the haircut because it was what i wanted, although she did not thin out my hair as I asked for and she did not ask about any lengths of layering pieces other than my bangs, I'm usually communicated by every hairstylist i've been with about just what is being cut off and what's not. When I was done with the blowout, she then reminded me twice to check out with her, odd because it seemed like she thought I was just gonna up and leave? Joice's work was okay especially since I booked a cut and regular dry. I wasn't expecting the world. What I don't think was okay was the pricing I was charged. I was charged $87... yes $87 for a simple haircut and a blowout. Now I know my hair is on the thicker side but there is no way that the $45+ haircut and blowdry I asked for turned out to be $42 more. Let's be fr, this is hair cuttery. I was charged 29 dollars for a cut, and another 58 dollars for a "deluxe blowout". There is nothing deluxe about this blowout? I usually get my curtain bangs styled during a blowout because that's normal, my curtain bangs were pin straight after this blowout. I also had a terrible experience that doesn't seem "deluxe" at all, my hair was tugged at and my eye was poked twice. I honestly felt like she was not being gentle with my hair at all. I go to haircuttery (the arundel mills one is the best, i advise going there) a decent amount of times especially when I can't go to my favorite salon that would charge me $80 for a cut and blowout. This was actually so odd to me. I tried to ask her why this was the price, she kept saying "i actually gave you a discount it would've been more" be fr my hair is not monstrous its just a little thick if my hair were hard to handle I would've understood, but i've never been told that nor have felt like it was hard to blowdry. I then decided to take matters into my own hands and called customer service which then forwarded me to the store manager, Jamie. Jamie was quick to call back which was great. Her attitude was a little off, she wasn't at the salon yesterday and apparently told all the information by Joice and another stylist that day. I understand defending your staff, that's fine. But to have a one sided mindset is not. She left the conversation with "I think you got charged right, you just weren't satisfied with your cut." Ok so if i wasn't satisfied wouldn't that be a bad thing?? wouldn't you want to apologize for your stylist?? I work in retail, I know how managers are supposed to act to customers. It was unprofessional. She ended up refunding me I think around 25 dollars. Which honestly wasn't satisfactory, but I could tell she really didn't care what I had to say, even though I told her I had photos I could show her. I left it at that, I appreciate the $25 back and I do appreciate the time taken for the cut. But it was just not communicated well and it also felt like I got scammed. I will not be coming back, if I want a $90 haircut I'll actually go to a place that'll give me my moneys worth. I don't usually write reviews of hair salons unless my service was spectacular; I'm sorry to say that today it's because of the exact opposite reason. My experience at the Crofton MD Hair Cuttery was unsettling and I had to sit with myself to write this. I considered not saying anything but it would be a disservice not to. I advise any BIPOC (people of color) or mixed families to stay far, far away from this location of Hair Cuttery in Crofton/ Gambrills. Yesterday morning I sleepily walked in there for a trim, only to be treated outwardly, verbally with disdain, from my jarring first interaction with the receptionist who also happened to be the manager, and stared at the whole time by both staff and the other customers, whose conversations mostly seemed to stop the moment I walked in. The lady at the front seemed offended by my very presence and laughed at me from my hello. My hair stylist was decent but and seemed eager to get me in and out, and even through our small talk she seemed aware of how the stylists next to us were either blatantly staring at me or side eyeing us. It saddens me some people in this country live this way, but I also learned another lesson in trying to cut corners for quickness. They also suck at cutting hair past any style you'd want in the 2000's so... lmao. Crofton is such a diverse area that I was not expecting this. I was so shocked that I laughed and mumbled and did the thing a lot of us do in the face of micro aggressions. I just didn't know how to handle myself, I only knew i felt unsafe and very uncomfortable. Right after that I pathetically crawled back my usual hair stylist, Lucinda, who is an extremely talented Latina hair artist at Thirty Hair (Columbia) I've been going to since we moved here. I had assumed she didn't have any same day openings as she's usually fully booked weeks out (that's why i didn't go to her in the first place). Called her and got in within the hour, and she fixed my hair and my sour mood. Go see Lucy or any of the incredible, socially/ ethnically educated stylists at Thirty Hair. Spend the time, the money to support your regulars. (This is also not to bash Hair Cuttery; we've taken the kids to other locations both in our area and in PA and they were absolutely spectacular). read more

Unfortunately I must update my review on this location. I went in early in the morning looking for a quick easy haircut. I received such, but this pleasurable experience was interrupted by a loud mouthed Hair Stylist who was flaunting their political opinions for the entire 30mins I was in the shop. The music wasn't on, it was early. I didn't wanna gab with my Stylist, and not many people were there. The conversation made me feel uncomfortable and included anti trans rhetoric, among other things. Frankly IDC if you support Trump or Biden, I'm here for a damn hair cut. Period. Why can't we hear a Stylist brag about their grandkids? Instead of ranting about wanting a "test" done on Biden? Honestly this place is ridiculous for allowing such valiant conversation in this type of setting. We LIVE in a politically driven area, I'm here for a haircut. Not to work, to relax. Not to listen to you rant, but to access a service. Sadly this isn't the first time this has happened, which is why I'm updating my review on this location. It's a really dumb way to isolate your customer base. The previous experience I had, the Stylist ranted about being against vaccinations, and then I told her I was vaccinated bc my Mom has stage 4 cancer and she goes "oh yeah well you kind of have to". I laughed, tweeted about her audacity, and kept it moving. I should of known then to not return back here. So unfortunately I will be dedicating more time to go to a further location, such as Annapolis, where I've always felt comfortable and accepted despite my POV. I booked an appointment on their website directly (not on Yelp, because for some reason a women's regular cut isn't even an option here but I digress-). I show up on time, excited to finally get out and try something new with my overgrown and damaged hair. There's no receptionist. Finally a lady that's doing someone else's hair addresses me, and calls over a women to check me in. She doesn't find me in the system, but decides to take me anyway after I decide to forgo the shampoo and opt for a dry cut only because she clearly wasn't feeling this "last minute drop in". I should've left...just trust your gut about these things, man. Anyway, I wanted a tapered, shoulder length bob (my hair was down to the middle of my back). After I showed her pictures, she started. Wasn't u til she got to the front I noticed she could afford to take way more off the length (I didn't care AT ALL about leaving as much length as possible-the whole point was to chop off the damaged ends from a chemical perm I had a while back). When I kindly told her she could take off a lot more, she then said she would have to start all over and that she had another appointment at 12 o clock (approximately 20 minutes). She did a pretty good job hence the 2 stars, albeit not getting the haircut I truly wanted, but it's the treating me like I wasn't an appointment holder like the others for me. I opted out of my shampoo and style because I felt like I was not welcomed there and I didn't want to take up any additional time. Listen, my time is valuable, too, and I felt robbed of a truly enjoyable experience because your system is flawed. I know that my appointment was indeed made correctly because I received two texts to follow up-one nearing the time of my appointment, and the other shortly after I left this place. Okay, so, last time I was going to get a cut there, I called ahead of time as they suggest and tried to get an appointment with one of the various contacts I have there. The woman on the line said that due to the holiday (Labor Day), they were on a different schedule, and a lot of my contacts weren't necessarily in. She further stated, though, that I needn't make an appointment, that there was no one there, and that I could just walk in. So, I didn't, I just went, and when I arrived, guess what... hour wait. I was about to leave later that day to drive up to CT for work, so I didn't have time to twiddle my thumbs, which is WHY I CALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE. Needless to say, I wasn't happy. Also needless to say, I called the SportClips that opened up across the way, and they had a short wait, so I went there instead. I came in very indecisive with what I wanted done to my hair. My stylist was Shelly and she took about 30 minutes to lay out a bunch of different options for highlighting, full color, lowlights, etc. we agreed on one together and she got to work. After she gave me partial highlights in the color papaya and cut and styled my hair, we decided it wasn't drastic enough and she redid the color again, for free. They really make good on their smile guarantee. When I got the the register, she charged me for one of the packages, even though what I had gotten done wasn't a set package, making my bill cheaper than highlights, color, and a cut would be separately. read more

Had to keep my eyes closed because she kept whacking me on the forehead with the back of blow dryer , not sure if she realized that. Brought in ref pics and asked for a cut that fell just below my shoulders and thinner towards the ends; end of my hair is cut bluntly and is way too thick!! I have never had such an aggressive and raced haircut as I experienced today. I think I was there for maybe at most 10 minutes?? Stylist was Rachel. Definitely did NOT like the results but I was so fed up I just wanted to leave ASAP. Definitely would not recommend going to this location. read more
