Hair City continues to be my top choice for a quick and reliable haircut. It's worth the 20 minute drive for me because all the hairstylists there do such a bang-up job with cuts for me and my kids. Even though my hairstyle is pretty simple, other brand name cutters have messed it up. So I don't bother going anywhere else anymore. They recently did a remodel to update the look and configuration of the interior. It has a cleaner and more modern feel and makes better use of the space. The place is now divided into two separate rooms, hair care on the left and nails on the right. Joyce, the owner, is always welcoming and friendly. And she keeps the lollipop jar filled with dum-dums which helps to keep my kids happy while they hang out in the waiting area. And when they get their haircuts, the cost is considerably cheaper than places catering just to kids. read more

Wanted to try a new spot to cut my hair since previous places didn't really leave my hair exactly how I wanted it. But the lady here (forgot to get her name) did a perfect job dealing with my long and thick hair so I'm definitely coming back for trims and cuts! read more

My mother and I have been coming here to get our hair cut for years. It's always a good job for a great deal! I stand by what I originally wrote regarding the hair cuts. Still the best place to go and will probably come back for a cut in the future. Probably best if you don't get colored here though. read more

Hair City - Cuts here have always been great. Color, not so much. - Hair Salons Near Me - Austin, Texas

(Editor's note: Errol M occasionally finds himself with the need to be impeccably groomed, for an unexpected event, and in-between his usual cut-&-color sessions with Studio Tilee. This prompts him to seek viable alternatives.) ************************ My Hair City adventure: 1. Ever walk into a Vietnamese nail salon, massage venue, or Pho place you've never been to before, and hope that everything goes okay? 2. I left here thinking it was the best $12 haircut I've ever had. 3. And as I was leaving, Joyce cut the chit-chat banter for a moment and seriously asked, "How did you know my name was Joyce?" I responded truthfully, "Because all the Yelp reviews described you to a T, and said you were great. They were correct. I should have taken before & after pictures of myself." She said, "It was a pleasure to meet you." I come to the restaurants around here all the time, and never knew this place existed. I do now. Hair City is a pleasant surprise. read more

Since I'm the kind of guy who needs to get his wig split/ears lowered/chia-trimmed at least once every 3 weeks, I can't afford drop $25 for a cut. Just because you're paying a cheaper price at Hair City ($12) doesn't automatically mean the services are any worse than at higher end salons(for men). Actually, they're a whole hell of a lot better IMHO. I get in, I get out, grab a boba drink, and my head feels much cooler and lighter. I've been coming to Hair City for more than 10 years now and I have a really difficult time trusting anyone other than Joyce with my hair. She's always really friendly and is great to chat with. Alternatively, she will leave you alone to snooze if that's more your style (which I've done on many occasions!). Believe it or not, since I've recently moved to San Antonio, I drive into Austin to get my haircut. Ohhh! OH! Let me DROP SOME KNOWLEDGE ON YA. You should know that they've recently removed the nail salon portion of the shop and renovated the place to include a foot reflexology space. AWESOME! Believe me when I say that I too thought it was awkwardly advertised when I read "FOOT RELAX MASSAGE" on a white banner hanging outside. But for $25 bucks you can basically get a full body massage for an entire hour. The guy who gives the massage is extremely nice and appreciative. I felt incredibly calm and relaxed. No, it's not a spa day at Milk 'N Honey but it's the waaaayyy more affordable option that is well worth its weight in gold bullion. I almost forgot to mention that it's conveniently sandwiched in between Asian restaurant superpowers Sunflower and Din Ho. That fact alone should get your ass off the couch. read more

The few reviews on this place do not do it justice. What can I say about Joyce and Hair City that hasn't been said before? I could tell you it's like your mom is Asian and she is cutting your hair, I could tell you it's an awesome deal (only $12 for guys and $18 for the ladies), I could tell you it is one of the best haircuts I've had in Austin. It is all those things and so much more. I went for my first visit today with very little expectations. The location was extremely convenient, It's right off 183 and Fairfield in the same shopping center as Ramen Tatsu-ya, Din Ho, Coco's, and Hong Kong Supermarket. Parking was available, drivers were Asian so watch out. I kid but you should always be careful in a parking lot. There are lots of huge speed bumps at this one. I showed up and Joyce immediately welcomed me into the shop. I told her what I wanted and she executed with perfection. I wasn't surprised, since shes had over a decade of experience and has worked in several parts of the country. If you don't feel like speaking English on your visit, you're in luck. Joyce can probably communicate with you in one of her other four languages. We had an awesome conversation in Cantonese and she is an absolute sweetheart. My experience was awesome. The facility was clean, the people were nice and I got an awesome haircut for a good price. If you're an Asian guy, go to Hair City ask for Joyce. You won't be disappointed. read more

Joyce and the others here are great hair cutters and so nice. I am not Vietnamese, but it is like having a super nice Vietnamese mother cutting your hair. Prices are more than reasonable. And when you are done with your good, fast haircut, you can go to your choice of Asian restaurants to spend the money you saved on good food. (or Mister Tramps to grab a beer and watch soccer). (side note: If you pay by credit card, they charge you a $1 extra. For a $12 men's cut or $10 for kids, I just pay good ol' cash.) read more

Usually the word affordable and excellent doesn't go together, but I finally find a place where I can get a decent hair cut in a friendly environment. Hair City will see you again. This is my 4th time getting my hair cut here and my wife love it! read more

I don't understand how anyone can say this place is great. I went in pretty optimistic with all the positive reviews but as soon as I sat down I had a bad feeling given that it was filthy in there. Everything was dusty, and the brushes were covered in hair. I should've just left as soon as I saw that. She sounded knowledgeable at first, asking me how I wanted my hair shaped. I have long hair that had had a bad cut at Birds a few months ago and I just really wanted someone who knew how to cut front layers/face frame. She didn't bother asking me if I needed my hair washed and went right to cutting. She was going really fast and I took this as a sign that she knew what she was doing. When it came to cutting the front of my hair- she took a few strands and cut them! I'm talking like 4 strands of hair and just cut them incredibly short!!! My hair was down to the middle of my back and these strands she cut were barely below my chin. I stopped her and was like "why did you just do that?! I wanted to just trim the layers that were already there!" She then said she was going to cut down so that the layers were not noticeable. Made absolutely no sense. My hair looks choppy and the front layer(if I could even call it that!) is going to take forever to grow out. Now, let's just hope I don't get lice. read more

They always on the ball at this place, they cut hair and style it the way you want it. And they are very cool and down to earth pp's. If you what to feal like your in a diff world, this place will help, they speek Vietnamese beside English. They are awesome. I have recommended this place to all ppl and I've been going there for more than 10yrs. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star! By far the worst haircut I've gotten. Extremely lazy and unprofessional. She didn't even wet my hair before cutting it and gave some shitty excuse saying my hair is wavy - I have extremely straight hair. End result- looks like a rat bit on my hair. Even if I had cut it myself it would have looked better. Stay AWAY FROM THIS PLACE read more

Went to this shop with a gift certificate I had for a year. I should have not used it at all. The person who helped me was friendly. She said they didnt do gel manicures there. (Strick 1. Who doesn't do gel manicures now a days?) She warned me that she might not be able to take the old gel manicure off my nails, but she didn't tell me she was going to charge $10 in order to take it off until after the poorly manicure was completed. The pedicure was done okay. Just a few smudges of polish on my skin, but I can clean that up I thought to myself). My manicure was another issue...it looked ridiculous, and by that point I just wanted to quickly get out. (Strick 2.) Another osdue was that the woman tslked about how her husband cheated on her and wanted a divorce. Sad, but that is not relaxing to talk about with a stranger. (Strick 3.) I took picutres of my nails, but can't seem to post them here. I left with a manicure that looked bumpy and smudgy. Also, there were flies and very few nail colors to chhose from. The worst part is I have to tell the person who gave me the gift certificate to never go back there again because they tend to but certificate from there often. I dont the realize the quality there is awful. :( read more

Hair City is a great place to get your haircut! The prices are reasonable and they take their time cutting your hair. I've been to Fantastic Sam's and Supercuts and I'll tell ya that the quality and service doesn't even compare to Hair City. I'll be coming back soon enough! read more

I lived in Austin for almost 7 years and I've come to this place ever since to get a haircut, perm, facial, and nails done. Joyce is very friendly and everybody is although I can't remember their name. I'm not picky and I trust each and everyone of them, even the guy cut my hair once and I like it...the way I want it to be. The price is so affordable and the service is good, I will recommend this place to everyone. I never tried the massage but I am thinking about it, this is a nice concept they have...coming to one place for everything. read more
