Terrible customer service. I came in in person to check out the place and to make an appointment. Guy at the front told me to just check online instead of just helping me. He goes to to explain me just uses the same system to book clients so I can do it myself like him. What??? This was the worst experience I've ever had with a hair salon. If I could have given him a zero instead of a one I would have. I was using a Groupon and at the end of the appointment he wouldn't accept it. He knew I was using a Groupon coupon when I came in so why didn't he tell me from the beginning that he wouldn't accept it? Don't ever buy a Groupon for this guy because you're going to get royally ripped off. He seems like a nice enough guy but you'll see his true colours at the cash register where he'll come up with the most ridiculous charges to justify his exorbitant fees. He uses Groupon for advertising his salon and then won't accept it and then charges you a ridiculous fee for lousy services. After colouring my hair he said it covered my gray roots well but I could still see the gray roots and they weren't covered at all! I'd have to be blind to not see the gray roots after he coloured my hair. He went on to tell me it must be a product I'm using that wouldn't allow the dye to penetrate. Give me a break! I usually colour my hair myself and NEVER have a problem covering my gray roots. I bought a Groupon for $45 but was charged an additional $135 for a cut and root coverup for a grand total of $180 which should have only cost me $45 for the Groupon plus taxes as noted on the Groupon website. While there I heard him shamelessly take advantage of a customer by telling her she needed to buy a lot t of expensive products. She had to pay $190 in total and left very unhappy and told him so. He didn't even dry her hair! Is this the way a salon owner wants their customers leaving...angry and feeling absolutely taken advantage of? Such shameful behaviour! It's absolutely criminal the way he conducts business! He complained about Covid and then the construction on Woodbridge Ave. so I guess in order for him to recoup his money he feels justified in ripping off his customers for all the money he can scrounge out of them! Shameful! Avoid Hair by Steven at all costs. I'd rather cut my own hair then go to this rip off artist. I wish I was warned in advance but only found out what a crook he is by experiencing it myself and afterwards by seeing all his bad reviews (all justified I'm sure). He probably has his friends and family writing great reviews because there's no way this guy deserves any good reviews from what I saw and experienced. Go to another salon and stay clear of this guy! I wish someone had warned me! . The only thing that helps me sleep at night is knowing that karma will get him in the end! read more

Warning! DO NOT BUY GROUPON FIR THIS PLACE! Unfortunately I should have read reviews here first, as what happened to others here also happened to me. Bought 2 groupons one as a gift for partial highlighted and cut in February 2021 on Groupon. Checked website at the time and we had gone to Red zone and it stated groupon appointment will be only taken after March 15th. I Made the appointment for March 25th, and went in and Steven made up some bullshit that he doeanthave a "GROUPON Scanner"..... There is no such thing I told him. He stated after that he isnt accepting GROUPON until after April 19th . WHY?? Because he is a SCAMMER! They keep changing the date on their website, go check it out yourself! Unfortunately, I see other reviews on YELP that he has been doing this for a long while it seems. Well formal complaint is going into to GROUPON. I have it all on tape so he cant mix his words. I hope I can post the audio here somehow so you can hear the BS he was selling me. Unfortunately for one of the others reviewers she was publicly shamed. With me, he couldn't challenge much as his answers were all lies. He finally realized I wasn't an idiot or had no more lies left, si he stated its ALL GROUPON fault and deal with them. SCAM ARTIST! STAY Away. FAR AWAY! Im an executive, and love to leave positive reviews. I rarely feel compelled to write negative but I just had to as I dont want others scammed by this place nor want people like this working in our community. We need ethical people! This place is horrible ! I walked out without getting any services done. I can't even believe how terrible they can make a new customer feel. I purchased a groupon for partial highlights with cut and style for $50.00 I called to book an appointment right away Steven said they don't take Groupon customers for weekends (which it doesn't say anywhere in the groupon) but they would take me if I'm getting more highlights. I went in and when Steven came to look at my hair he said partial highlights is for a young girl who wants 7 or 8 highlights, not for me that has greys. I've been getting highlights at Salon Verve since 2007 which I love, my regular stylist is on maternity leave and they are booked solid for this Saturday so I thought I would try a new place. Big mistake. Steven said its 155 for highlights with cut, I paid 50 for the groupon so I would have to pay an additional 105. I declined and said I would get partial highlights which he said is an additional 30, ok fine I said, Long story short, Steven complained in a different language and made a scene. His sister told me to come back mid week or get a refund from groupon, the other stylist was trying to diffuse the situation. I suggested if they want new customers to not make them embarrassed and feel like idiots and be rude to them in front of everyone in the salon. I read all the reviews on groupon before posting this and it's a pattern. They charge people all kinds of service fees and make people feel stupid. I would never ever recommend this place, not even for free. I will go back to Salon Verve and happily pay my 150-200 for my highlights with cut and style, and be treated with dignity and respect. I may have to wait a week or 2 for an appointment, it's worth the wait. I can't see Salon by Steven surviving too long and they certainly shouldn't be offering groupons to try to get new business if they are angry when people try to use the groupon, they are only making there terrible service be known to more people by exposing themselves to all the groupon users who are trying them out. read more

Good place. Just got my hair done today, and It turned out really good. Steven is a great hairdresser, and he was quick to make good styles. It is a bit pricey, but that is because the quality is great, but to be honest, it's a great deal for the wide variety of styles and great quality you get while coming here. If you want a good, but affordable haircut for a celebration, come here. read more

Purchased a haircut on Groupon and was extremely satisfied with my haircut. Steven is quick, but very precise in his cutting and will take care of the small stuff (such as putting aftershave and trimming carefully). He is also a very nice person read more
