If I could rate it 0 I would! Hands down the worst hair salon in Toronto, please avoid here at all costs. Every few months I come here to get my hair colour retouched, just booking an appointment with this studio is a pain. Every time I call, the owner answers in a rude and condescending tone - as if I'm wasting her time or if what I'm inquiring about is nonsense. It's clear she's doesn't genuinely enjoy doing hair and she doesn't have a slight inch of patience. Every time I walk into the shop, I'm hit with unwelcoming energy, the stylists will just stare at you in a weird way and not say anything. I can count on hand how many times the owner told me she would call me back to let me know about the availability.... I would always have to follow up myself with her every time, just for her to waste my time and tell me she's booked up and that "I should've called earlier". But it's clear she forgets and doesn't really want to do the hair. Today I came to get my hair braided at the salon for the first time, I asked for 8 stitch cornrows and they kept telling me different prices. The braider they assigned me DIDNT KNOW HOW TO BRAID. The cornrow braids were crooked, she kept on having to take them out and my scalp was in pain. I had to keep showing her the inspo picture because she was doing her own thing, and when I told her I didn't like how the braid looked she blamed the thickness of my hair... (I have done this style many times.) It's clear she didn't know how to execute the style and was just wasting my time. If you can't braid all hair types don't call yourself a hairstylist. I was patient and understanding, but then I began to feel uneasy and frustrated because an hour had passed and she was still freestyling in my hair. The owner didn't seem to care. Eventually I decided that I didn't want to waste my time just for me to not like the style. I then asked the braider to kindly stop braiding. Can you imagine? Going to a so called "professional" hair salon and they don't know they're doing. When I was leaving I was stopped by the concierge and they asked me to pay $45 for a poorly done blowout?! Which was half the price of the cornrow style ($85). This salon is a money grab and that's all they care about. The most horrible and frustrating feeling of thinking I was going to leave with my hair done, just for me to walk back out in a head tie. The owner gaslit me and asked me why I was emotional? After going back and forth with her, she finally told me I didn't have to pay. It's already hard enough to find a good hairstylist in Toronto. I'm just glad the owner exposed themselves for who they truly are. I will never come back here and will be taking this to social media platforms - because black women should never come to a BLACK HAIR SALON and not be properly catered to. PERIOD read more

I had a wonderful experience at this salon from the time I contacted Michele (the owner), all the way through the end of my service. I contacted Michele via yelp to set up an appointment for a full sew in with closure as I was flying into Toronto the following weekend (the week before Christmas) from out of town. Michele was able to get me on the schedule with late notice and even took my flight and transport times from the airport into consideration. When I got to the salon, I was warmly greeted by both Michele and my stylist Janice before we began. The rosemary and mint shampoo/conditioner they used to wash my hair was literally one of the best things I've ever smelled. The takedown of my current weave and install of my new one was very fast (even my boyfriend mentioned this), and I couldn't be happier with the finished product! Services were great, people were friendly, and price was comparable to my salon in the US. I will definitely be back to this salon when I'm back in Toronto, or maybe I'll just find a reason to get back here more regularly for this service. read more

I had an AMAZING experience at Amani Hair Studio! I requested a booking online and received a response in less than 5 minutes. When I arrived at the salon it was clean with all the proper COVID protocols in place (masks, sanitizers, social distancing, constant cleaning going on etc.). I was warming greeted and my Stylist Michelle was ready to go - no waiting! And let me tell you about Michelle! HONEY, she did an EXCELLENT job! I came in for a dye and silk press after8 months of not having my hair professionally done and she had me looking like a superstar when I walked out in a little over 2 hours! I have been getting compliments for days!!!! Further, I told her that I always have an issue with my natural hair reverting as soon as it gets a whiff of heat or humidity. She said she was confident that my silk press would last and even called me a day later to check up on my hair! Who does that??! I brought my daughter to Amani with a hair emergency, a terribly knotted tangle of hair that we were sure we would have to cut off. Michelle and her team worked patiently and tirelessly to unravel the mess over the course of seven hours, staying way past closing and treating my daughter with kindness. And the fee for their hours and hours of work was incredibly reasonable. They made a real positive difference in her day and in her life. Going to a new hair salon can sometimes be nerve-racking - Not just because you're trusting a stranger with your hair, but also because you never quite know how you'll be treated. Poor service is almost as disappointing as a bad hairstyle. So when I decided to try Atlanta Hair Design for the first time, it was with a fair bit of apprehension... But my fears quickly subsided the moment I walked in the room. I was greeted warmly by Michelle, the owner. A lovely young lady - Cheyenne, welcomed me with a smile, took my coat and asked me to complete a new client form. She brought me to my seat and asked what I wanted. "Cornrows", I responded and showed her a picture so she could get an idea of the style I preferred. She immediately got to work on combing out my untamed afro. As a naturalista with a sensitive scalp and fairly unruly locks, I'm used to being close to tears when a stylist combs my hair. I'm convinced Cheyenne has magic wrists, because for once, I didn't feel like I was the victim of torture... I was also impressed by how fast she was able to complete my hair - A comb-out and 6 large cornrows took just over half an hour. The time seemed to go by even faster as everyone in the room got caught up in conversation, while jamming out to music that was playing in the background. My braids were styled beautifully and neatly and I was satisfied with the price based on the quality of service I received. They took good care of me and I will definitely return. read more

I started getting haircuts here once in awhile about a year ago. I had always walked past it on my way home from work but never bothered to try it. It's a very discreet place on the second floor. They do have a barber to do fades and men's cuts. I've always been rather pleased with the service and the quality of the haircuts. The staff are very friendly. They only accommodate appointments, which I actually prefer than walk-in places. You don't have to wait in line like other barbershops, so you know you can be in and out in half an hour. There are no other barbershops in the direct vicinity that can do fades, so if you live in the area and don't want to drive to get a fade, this is your best bet. I would have given it five stars if it was a little bit cheaper. It's $20 for a fade, plus tax. I usually tip my barber $5, so altogether it's $27 for a haircut. I suppose that's the premium you pay for the convenience. Also they don't take credit cards. It's only cash or debit, and debit transactions have a 50-cent surcharge. read more

I wanted to write this review the minute I left cause I was so excited but I had to go out with this new hairstyle and didn't get home till after 3 am. Lol. First off let me say, if you are looking for a stylist who KNOWS what they're doing, this is the place to go. Yes, you pay a higher price then you would in salons you may find in Brampton, Scarborough, etc but you get what you pay for. Impeccable service, positive attitude, HAIR CARE KNOWLEDGE, amazing hair style, and all the other qualities you look for in your hair care services. I was referred by a friend to ATL Hair Designs and called to speak with someone about what I am looking for. I had been natural for a year and had healthy, coarse hair that I had no idea what to do with anymore. If you categorize my hair texture I am somewhere in between a 4B and 4C; not quite either or. To be honest, I was absolutely terrified to get my hair done by a stylist because for the past 16 years I have been from one stylist to the next dealing with long waiting times, bad attitudes, lack of knowledge and in the end leaving with a hairstyle that looks OKAY, and having heat damage, burns, and over processed hair. You could go to a hair dresser with 4 hairs on your head and they'll tell you that you're good for a dye and perm. So I called and the owner Michelle spoke with me. I let her know right off the bat that I am natural with very coarse hair and am looking to texturize/texlax to make my hair more manageable. I told her how scared I am of damage and I am just looking for a stylist who genuinely cares about the health of my hair. She was very understanding, took the time to explain all the different methods I could use to achieve this look and answered all my questions about each method. It stuck out to me that I never felt rushed off the phone and her tone never sounded annoyed. Lol. I decided to go with the texturizer and was quoted a price of $110.00. She explained because my hair was all new growth it was $110.00 but it would be $55.00 afterwards. She also said I get a 10% discount for first time customers. I was still confused whether I should go with a texturizer or perm cause of the coarseness of my hair. Michelle was just finishing a client when I got there and her hair was looking GOOD; it was a layered, bob that look so healthy and full. I asked the client before she left what she had done and she said a texturizer and her hair was a coarse 4C like mine so not to worry. Sat in the chair and Michelle spoke with me again about all my concerns. We decided on the texturizer and she started to apply it in a method I had never seen before. She sectioned off my hair into four quadrants and did each section separately which included washing it out. She said this was to control the curls. It made sense because if I had the product sitting in one quadrant while she did the next then the curls would be different. During the process she made sure to take a mirror and ask if I wanted looser curls..... I went a bit looser and then she completed the other quadrants making sure all curls were the same pattern. When my hair was complete it was GORGEOUS! I realized that when I had a texturizer a year and a half before....it WAS NOT a texturizer...it was a damn perm. Lol. My curls were so pretty, hair looked full and healthy and it wasn`t even styled! Hair was looking good just after she washed the last quadrant and gave a condition. She also had her own special remedy she put in my hair to ensure all the relaxer was out of my hair. I liked that cause I felt she went the extra mile. When I sat in the chair to get it styled I loved my new curls so much I just wanted to leave like that. So instead of using heat she styled my hair using product and a diffuser. Got a side part with full, bouncy curls. It had a moisturized look but wasn't wet. The total cost of my hair came to $150 including the product Michelle had used while styling me. It was worth every penny. I had read a rather negative review on here by SHARON E. before going to ATL but she didn't mention throughout the whole review that she didn't like her hair. LMAO. So I went anyway. No disrespect to her but when I paid I was given the receipt from using the debit machine and then the assistant asked if I wanted a store receipt. She would have to hand write one but that doesn't mean they're pocketing their taxes. Lol. It's just dependent on their system. So if you want a receipt you get one, and I was offered one. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE FOR EXTENSIONS. I can't speak for their hair cuts or color, but they are horrible at doing extensions. I had both a weave and fusion extensions here. I had below shoulder legnth hair before extensions, they ruined my hair. It is now broken and damaged and falls above my ear-level. The application hurt a lot and i had to take tylenol for a few days after because it hurt so bad. She did them too tight/too close to my scalp. Bad hair quality. Just horrible experience. I made an appointment with Michelle on Thursday for a virgin hair texturizer on Saturday morning. I arrived at Michelle's Salon at 8AM, my scheduled time and gave her a call - no answer. The trains were bad that morning, so i thought that she was just delayed. I waited another 25 minutes, and still no answer. Michelle, rang me a few hours later apologising. Apparently she had an emergency and was at the hospital. Whilst i am sympathetic - things happen, i felt that if an emergency was the case, why not get one of your colleagues to contact me and let me know the deal. Instead you leave me for 30 minutes at you salon door, knocking and calling like an idiot, until i eventually decide to just leave. Would not go back, neither would i recommend. read more

I was so excited to find a hair salon uptown that caters to black hair. Sadly, I left disappointed to say the least. I went in to get a texturizer and trim done. Michelle (owner) was my stylist and came across as very warm and professional. She answered all of my questions including the one about prices. She said a texturizer is $110 because my hair is virgin/natural and the trim is $25. Seemed a little pricey, but I agreed and we proceeded. When it came time to pay, she added an extra $45 to my bill, which she claims was for washing and styling my hair. I questioned this because a texterizer is a chemical that requires washing, so it was unclear why she would charge me separately for a wash. I quickly realized that because she offers 10% off for new customers and an extra 5% off for paying cash, she wanted to recoup the discount and make a little extra. I told her what she quoted me before the service differs drastically and her response was that they charge everything a la carte, which makes no sense. I was also disappointed with my hair overall. She didn't texturize my hair evenly with some parts still in it's virgin state. She also seemed concerned afterwards as to whether she did my hair correctly. She then confessed that she "doesn't do a lot of texturizers". This again differs from what she said on the phone when I initially spoke with her. Michelle talked a lot about being a christian and made references to god several times. It's almost like it was a con to gain trust. I would not recommend this place at all! Super Expensive and quoted one price by the owner Michelle and charged another that was three times the amount. Quoted minimum amount for maintenance of $100 and charged $525. In fact, my card was said invalid funds as I did not expect to pay the much. I ended up writing a cheque for very cheap hair and I got taken. Not a pleasant feeling especially when she knew I wasn't working. Used the worst quality hair that came out within five weeks (extensions) - not a good experience for me. I always had to wait for service and I was never treated nicely. I thought it was a racist thing. Luckily I found a wonderful place that does great extensions and colour called Wave Length Hair by Joyce Jones who is amazing. In fact, she couldn't believe how bad my hair looked and ha to take out the extensions that I had in for only five weeks from this salon and put in her own extensions using high quality hair and didn't charge me. She only charged me for maintenance because that is what she quoted me on the phone. Her colour was beautiful. I had many compliments two hours after I left. I thank God I met her. She's been doing hair/extensions for 35 years and is truly the best and very honest! read more

This place is rip-off. My wife goes there all the time to get her hair done. There is a snow storm outside and my wife is unable to go there because of the horrible weather. When she tried to re-schedule the appointment they told her she had to pay a $25 penalty fee. That is total BS, she will never go back there again! The woman on the phone tried to compare the hair salon to an airline that charges a cancellation fee when you don't fly. WTF??? You're not an airline! Ridiculous! -1 customer. read more

This place is absolutely HORRID! I have natural hair went there because it was a nice looking salon and it close to work. They charged $75 for a wash and twist (with my own hair) plus $25 for a "cut", which was pretty much a trim. My twists were too small and tight despite me telling the "stylist" not to twist them too small. The next day I went back and my twist out was NASTY. I was told to "wait a few days" because the "weather is cold" and it some other nonsense as to why my hair was not fluffy and bouncy. That week, I received opposite of compliments, 3 people asked what happened to my hair and I MADE SURE TO TELL THEM WHERE I WENT. 3 days later, when I did my hair myself , I looked and felt much better. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. THEY ARE COMPLETELY A JOKE. $111 dollars later, I felt horrible, what a lesson I had to learn. read more

The staff and the clientele are all so friendly, I felt right at home from the moment I walked in there. I recently went to Atlanta Hair Design for a chemical Relaxer. This was my first time attending this salon. My long time hairstylist was away for quite awhile and my hair needed some love and affectionate. LOL I work in the Yonge and Eglinton area and was referred by another hairstylist, in the community. (I walked inquiring about a relaxer service there) The recommendation alone made me feel that was heading in the right direction, to finding someone to do my hair. When arrived for a consultation, Michelle, the owner greeted me with a warm smile. She also presented knowledgeable in hair care. I decided to give her a go, despite her using a relaxing system that I have never used before (accustom to using Affair Fiber Guard), so when my appointment rolled around a few days later, I was sitting in the chair about a few mins after I arrived, which was something that I was used to and expected. Her staff was friendly and pleasant and made me feel comfortable within the environment. So let me get to the meat of it! Michelle relaxed my hair beautifully!!! ONE OF THE BEST RELAXER JOB'S EVER! And that is by no means as disrespect to my personal stylist, but truth be told, she did an incredible job!! Well-straighten, no scalp burns, not over processed, you know ladies, a finish that looks like the home kit relaxers boxes! LOL. I was very impressed. She is pricey for many, but for me, she is average. I have always been willing to pay for good hair care and quality service and folks; exactly what I got. If my hairstylist is ever away again, she will be my go to person! She is good at what she does and she has a great personality!
