Found this spot when I moved to Ontario. It is an Aveda salon (which I love). I have been going to Dani and she is a total gem. She works magic with colour and cut. I have also taken my boys in for haircut with Sierra and Ginny who were also fabulous. They both did a great job with the cuts and even talked to them about how to properly wash their hair. Went to get my hair braided, the stylist I got asked if I also wanted a wash first and yeah, good idea for that, after the wash was the braiding, talked about the difference between a French and a Dutch braid with her. I enjoyed the double braid she put in, it looked nice. A week later I undid the braids and my hair was poofy, like Weird Al Yankovik, it was lovely, I never had my hair so curly before. I have been a client at Hair by Design for 12 years. I loved the staff and had an amazing stylist. Never left unhappy. In 12 years I've missed two appointments. The last one I missed was when my Father was in a severe accident and literally packed my bags to go Toronto to be there for him. Missing the last appointment I was told by the owner that I had to prepay for my appointments. Seriously? I felt belittled and insulted. I supported this salon through Covid by purchasing products etc. I've referred several people to this salon as well. I now have found an excellent salon in Kanata and even the pricing is less. Was looking for a new hair stylist, thanks to Nazish, I found hair by design! I just moved out to Kanata and was looking for something close by. This was right up my alley. I booked with Becky for a Saturday morning. I was grateful to get an appointment on short notice, and excited to see what the salon was like. The salon is a nicely laid out space, with lots of doggy decorations! All of the staff there are dog lovers. I was offered a delicious coffee, which I accepted :) before getting shampooed. Becky and I had a lovely time together, she did exactly what I wanted to my hair. I've gotten so many compliments on my style, even this past week, and my cut was nearly a month ago! I highly recommend going to Donna if you visit here. She's been my hairstylist for I swear almost a decade now and I recommend her to all my family and friends. She's extremely talented and such a nice person to talk to. You should definitely book in advance though because a lot of people seem to have discovered this gem so it can be hard to see her in short notice. The rest of the staff are also very pleasant. The salon has been revamped and is super nice :) they're also an Aveda salon so it's great to have a supplier within Kanata. read more

Before discovering Hair by Design, my old stylist had retired, another salon didn't survive COVID, and then I went to a popular salon and had a horrible cut that totally wasn't what I asked for and paid a very high price. I found Hair by Design through an internet search and was desperate. Boy, am I ever glad I did! The stylist, whose name I unfortunately didn't get (but I will be sure to get her again, she had brown and green hair) took the time to actually listen to what I wanted and then came up with a plan to give me that. She spent a long time talking to me about my needs, lifestyle, haircare routines etc and then more time working on my hair (it was a mess) and then even showed me some simple styling tips for wash-and-go me. And the price was incredibly reasonable! I have received tons of compliments and my hair didn't look good just coming out of the salon -- it looks good everyday with no fuss, no muss. I will definitely be back and highly recommend! read more

Was really disappointed with my colour and highlights. They messed up more than once, I felt like it was not experienced work. They showed roots on my highlights more than once, not complete work. felt sloppy. I came back to get my colour fixed and the hairdresser made it feel like it was my fault the whole time. I'm just the customer! I had even gave her a nice generous tip on my last visit. Not proper business manner, felt so much attitude towards me and I even remained polite the whole time. Had a terrible experience at Hair by Design I would highly recommended not going there. Based on the good reviews I tried this place out... big mistake. I went in and specifically asked the hair dresser not to cut my bangs, however, I guess she felt that she knew better. The results were horrific -- large gaps, way to short, and uneven. Since the hair cut a number of people have asked me what happened to my hair, something I have never had happen before. read more
