Worst service ever! Stylist would not give me her name. Insisted on me giving them a phone number. Would not provide a receipt showing taxes charged. I asked for a trim of my long hair. Cut was not straight nor layered well. I asked for 1 inch trim and stylist took 2"+. Not recommended!!! read more

I walked in with my stepdaughter who wanted some fun coloured highlights. The girl at the desk told me that it would cost a bit more cause it was a bright colour. She asked her coworker how much.....the coworker looked annoyed and said it would be over 30 bucks.....per foil!!! So a few highlights would have cost me 2-300 bucks!!! I'm not sure if they just lied to me to make me go away or if they are truly ripping people off like this. It's very sad as many people pick First Choic because it's more of a budget chain. Differential pricing by different stylists for the same client seems to have resulted in a computer system where you are asked for your name or telephone number - presumably to remove arbitrary pricing discrepancies. Clearly something is wrong there. That aside, the styling provided is comparatively good. read more

Fantastic service. I usually get my hair cut by Darlene. She is amazing. It's so rare to find a hairdresser who does exactly what you ask for. Last week I had a self-inflicted hair dye nightmare. I did a bad job on my colour, tried to remove it and ended up with day-glow orange hair. Sigh. Needless to say I panicked and went to First Choice pronto. ( yes, I know, had I gone there in the first place none of this would have happened but , you know...). Anyway, NajLa corrected my mistake and all came out great. I can't say enough. I was afraid that any further treatment might break my hair or cause it to fall out but no! All is good and no one knows what happened, except for those of you reading this ***Just went again (July) and continue to be amazed by NajLa's colouring skills. Seriously, I've been to some of the most expensive salons in Ottawa and none of them can hold a candle to what NajLa can do. She is amazing. read more

I've never been too big of a fan of First Choice. As I've gotten older, I've opted for higher-end salons because of the quality of the cut and styling products, and more mature hairstyles. I did go back in my teens, though, just to get my bangs and split ends trimmed. They're not the best, but they get the job done. I find it tailored more towards families, as they generally seem to do more "wholesome" and basic cuts, versus anything too edgy or complicated. They do, however, offer many of the same services that you would expect from any salon, such as foils and highlights, perms, straightening, updos, and waxing and threading, which is more than I expected. Their prices are very affordable and the staff is usually very warm and welcoming, so if you're looking for something quick and easy, like a trim, or if you don't want to pay and arm and a leg to get a simple haircut, then this might be a place to check out. read more
