The Plough & Harrow is a very old pub situated on an old Roman and London Road. It used to be an…read moreold coaching inn, and still has the old fabulous stables, redone and adding a touch of history to the place. A few years ago it was partially ruined in a flood, but the rebuild has gone a long way to making it one of the best pubs in Tamworth. It has a very large garden, lots of tables, a canopy and outside braziers for nice but chilly spring evenings. The inside has low ceilings, exposed beams and magnolia walls. It's a nice, comfy old English pub feel, but without the tatty standard maroon carpet. There aren't many tables inside, so standing is pretty much a must. The Plough & Harrow gets really busy on weekend nights, and is a haven to the young and trendy Tamworth set (you didn't know they existed, did you?) before they go on to a club. The music is pretty decent, through speakers, and so loud on weekends that talking inside isn't very plausible. The P&H also have a very nice restaurant attached, which I haven't been to, but have heard very positive reviews about -- it's mainly Italianish food with a modern twist. The pub grub here is very good, with some different things (Cajun Chicken Sandwich, YUM), and with excellent chips. I can't rave enough about these chips, which are nearly potato wedges, nicely cooked with delicious seasoning. The main bartender/manager is a really friendly guy, and all the staff are pretty chatty and nice. They often have fun activities, both for adults in the evening and families at the weekends, like an American 4th of July party (yay!), and festivals. They provide accomodation, which some of my friends from the US took advantage of when they came over for my wedding. The rooms are all refurbished and nicely laid out, with comfy beds and decent WCs. Nothing astonishing, exccept when you consider the SUPER CHEAP price. The rooms are all a bit off from the pub, so the noise level also isn't too bad.

We're glad we bothered to go a little bit off the motorway, as it was a lovely place to stop. The food was excellent- a wide variety of pub favourites and more unusual stuff at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was friendly and fairly warm, it was all beautifully clean and quite cosy inside, and it was easily worth spending the 10 minutes driving that it took to get away from Tamworth motorway services. Recommended.

Inside it seats around 30 and is decorated in a modern style that still manages to be warm and welcoming. We visited recently for a meal for 4 on a Friday evening. The restaurant was nearly full. All our starters and mains were served in a timely manner and were delicious. I ordered the scallops and duck and both were brilliant. This is not a mega cheap place but it is worth the money charged. We spent around £35 per head with drinks. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

It doesn't look much from the outside but from the moment you go in, you are made to feel at home. A clean modern restaurant. All our food was served promptly, and was devoured just as promptly - all excellent. I have visited many "Italian" Restaurants both in Italy & here in the UK and I have to say this is certainly in my top ten! Good food made from quality ingredients, with excellent service is never cheap (if cheap is what you want, there are many pub restaurants to choose from) La Nonna is reasonably priced for the standard of food & service you receive, you can pay a lot more elsewhere for a lot less! Well worth a visit

I got the opportunity to experience the Asian High Tea here yesterday…read more We arrived a few minutes early but were promptly seated by the window with a lovely view of Pendigo Lake. The restaurant was clean, bright and airy. The high tea is served in 'Waves' - the first being a savoury selection of Chicken Yakatori, a Prawn and Tofu Ball and Duck Long Bao. This was accompanied by a refreshing Ginger and Lemon Iced Tea. The Second Wave was a selection of savoury and sweet items, with an Avocado Maki Roll and Squid Ink Tapioca Cracker, to a Yuzu and Lemon Curd Tartlet, Hazelnut and Chocolate Delice, Spiced Stawberry Trifle and an Orange Scone with Orange Curd. I also had a Mandarin and Kumquat Bellini. Afterwards, we were given a coffee, and as it was my friend's birthday we were treated to a complimentary taster dessert of a macaron and white chocolate and raspberry pop with a bitter chocolate sauce. It was the BEST high tea experience I have ever had. Each item was at a perfect temperature and presented beautifully, and everything was absolutely delicious. My favourite was the squid ink and tapioca cracker, which I would have normally avoided on a menu but was like nothing I have ever eaten before. The service was impeccable too - the staff were extremely friendly and promptly brought out each course with a smile. Definitely somewhere I will be visiting again!

There were four of us though we were waiting for fourth person to turn up, we decided to be seated early ahead of our 2pm booking. Our waitress took our cocktail and water orders, one girl wanted the glass on the table changing but never got it till she asked again. We wanted our cocktails first but they served the ice tea before our friend arrived. When the drinks arrived, I wondered why two drinks looked the same as one was a mocktail but they looked the same... Looking at the ingredients it seemed mine was not a cocktail. I called waitress over to query to which she said they only serve mocktail with the High tea so I pointed at the menu and said these are cocktails as other friend had a Bellini. She clearly didn't understand the menu or what we had ordered. I felt like I had to have what she wanted to give me not what the customer wants!! I told her to check what the cocktail is alcoholic or not and give me one of the alcohol ones. Or that they charge us correctly for what they placed on the table! Not a good start! I prefer the first wave of the chicken and the buns etc. I liked the squid ink cracker but the desserts were bit rich and sickly. You get a hot drink with the second wave. We ended up being only people towards end of our meal. No one came up to ask if we wanted anything else, all the staff stood chatting by the Bar. After waiting for ages, I went up to the reception n asked for the bill. Thankfully it was correct!
