    Chicken Mandi
    Taylor Y.

Delicious, warm food that will never fail to disappoint. The portions here are large and generous. A no-frills, authentic place to get Afghan food. I personally love the chicken dishes, bread, and hummus. It's a spot that is well-known by locals. Service is quick and the place gives a hole-in-the-wall vibe, which only adds to the experience.

We had an incredible time trying the new foods and flavors here. The complexity and uniqueness was totally standout. We ordered some recommended items by the owner and nothing disappointed. Samboosas had a lighter and crispy texture. The fahsah was visually stunning and delicious. The fassolia was incredible and I'll be ordering it every time.

There are numerous Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants in this area, many of them very good, but none of them do things the way Hadramout does. This is a Yemeni restaurant that's pretty nondescript on the outside (and the inside too honestly), but with amazingly-cooked and unique food that's both adventurous yet comforting. The lamb dishes are real highlights, with the lamb haneeth consisting of a sizable portion of tender bone-in meat with rice and braised veggies, and the fasah being a sizzling flavorful stew served with a GIANT flatbread for you to wipe up every last drop. The lamb barely even tasted gamey, but if lamb's not your thing, the chicken mandi is an entire half chicken that's just as tender as the lamb haneeth while still coming with the same accompaniments. We also ordered samboosas (their version of samosas) but ate them so fast I can't really comment on them, and our food came with a VERY spicy salsa-like sauce that's nice for acidity if you can handle the heat. Everything is very affordably priced, especially considering the large portions and the quality of the lamb. We shared all of the pictured dishes for a table of three and had a good amount of one entree left to take home. The service was a bit slow and spotty on this occasion since it was pretty busy and only had one server working who wasn't too fluent in English; our table had ordered a tea that didn't come and we asked to get it taken off the check with no issues. I still found the meal outstanding and personally wasn't too bothered; perhaps come here when you have a lot to chat about with your table and not for a quick bite. Would still really recommend this place, whether you're looking for a new cuisine to try or some warm hearty food to share while socializing with friends!

My friends and I came here for a weekly dinner one night. We have all heard good things from this hole in the wall restaurant. This is my first time trying Yemani food! We each got Samboosa to try which is a flaky pastry with meat and cheese. The sauce that came with it had a kick to it. For my entree I got the Chicken mandi. Its a big piece of chicken on a bed of spiced rice and veggies. Delicious! The chicken was fall off the bone and the spices were on point. We enjoyed our meal and the prices weren't bad at all! The only negatives was that you had to buy your own drinks (including waters) and the bathroom was alittle dirty. Other than that it was a great meal with friends :)

Hadramout has been on my radar for the better half of a year, and this was my first in-person visit. A couple of weeks ago I did try their Chicken Kabab take-out which was served over veggies and rice. Overall, that was a 3 star for me as I felt the rice wasn't very well seasoned, and the chicken was a little dry, as well as the price/value. Yesterday I opted to try the Chicken Mandi w/ rice which is listed at $13.99 but charged $14.99 on the receipt, seems like an outdated menu. The rice was the same, but man is that chicken good and what a portion! I love the seasoning, and the chicken literally falls off the bone. I also enjoyed the samboosa $1.5 and my Yemeni tea for $1. Hadramout doesn't look like much when you walk in - but if you're looking for some good homecooked Yemeni food, look no further. I'll definitely be back to try the fish dish along with some other chicken haneeth dish I was eyeing.

Underrated, easily-missed place in West Philly, you really can't go wrong with anything. I loved the chewiness and texture of the kofi kebab meat and the spices of the chicken mandi, and the saltah lamb. This is homey, family-owned, and there's no place like it in Pennsylvania. I've never had Yemeni food before and this place has set the bar high! The staff is amazing, warm, and makes everyone feel at home.

Had enough food from here to feed me for several days. I got the kofta kebab, lamb stew, and beans and tomatoes. It came with two pieces of house bread so large I could've worn it as a shirt! The bread was nice and doughy and perfect for dipping in the dishes. The lamb stew reminded me of carnitas with the pulled meat. And the beans and tomato was a nice comfort food. Really glad I decided to order from here, not only was the food great, but the price was also a steal!

Portions are amazing! The meat literally falls off the bones. It's super flavorful with the meat, rice and veggies well spiced. The service was great and attentive as well. Prices are really good. I tried the lamb haneeth and plan on getting the chicken mandi next. Samboosa was spot on! It's filled with minced meat and comes with a tart sauce.

Upon entering, no one acknowledged us to be seated. We had to ask two staff members where to sit. Once seated, the table was cleaned upon some delay with a rag that had a distinct smell that lingered throughout the meal. It took 55 minutes for our meal to arrive. I was able to see on their social media that they cooked the kabobs and karahi fresh. That being said, there should be communication with the guests if it will take that long. It could have been a coincidence but our food came out 5 minutes after we checked in to see what the status of our order is. If you also notice that your guests are not satisfied with the wait time, perhaps offer complimentary appetizers. We ordered the family platter but were not given any utensils too pick up the food with...we ended up using our hands as we already had a laundry list of things to ask for like napkins, an extra plate, more chutney (which we requested during our order). Resham kabob - basically the same kabob, the same salad, the same naan from the family platter. I could have constructed it myself at the fraction of the cost. The sandwich rolls do not come with fries or anything which I think isn't appropriate for the price they are charging. It was also confusing where to order as the place to order for Kabobeesh is in the back of the restaurant. The Karak Chai counter is being used too which is great but further confuses guests. The food seemed like it was coming out of different exits. There are no physical menus at this time, guests have to get up and read the kiosks. The menu online is also very confusing as there is overlap with the pizza location items. Always wanting the nashtaa but never knowing when the cut off time is for ordering it! Adding an extra star than I'd like because there is a prayer room which is wonderful to see. :) The chicken karahi was good per usual but left disappointed otherwise!

I knew I could only enjoy a little knibble of each of the delicious salads that were initial placed on the table. I think I ate all the twice-cooked eggplant. It was so good! The hummus is honestly the best I've ever had, and the laffa bread is such a yummy accompaniment. I had to stop myself from eating too much! I tried the Phyllo-wrapped Haloumi. It was ok, but I liked my dad's Freekeh Arancini better. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder is the reason I had to pace myself. This is also one of my favorite lamb dishes that I've ever had. The greens are a nice accomaniment. I didn't care for the crispy rice, and it was the only thing I didn't like. I got the Pecan Konafe for dessert and it was like an exotic pecan pie. Love this! The second I knew I was visiting Philly, I set a reminder on my phone to vie for a reservation. We got a 9:30pm reservation, which was late for my usual dining habits but absolutely no question worth the extra few hours to build up and appetite and anticipate going to such a renowned restaurant. We were met with a beautiful dining room and kind, passionate people at Zahav, especially our bartenders, who made our experience a true EVENT, describing each dish to us even as we were making decisions on the tasting menu, and vouching for the fact that we MUST try the halloumi, which ended up being my favorite dish! Wow, the care that is put into the craft of this food is unreal. Zahav is a true celebration of cuisine. We started with the laffa bread being served straight out of the fire with accompaniments which were absolute flavor bombs, especially the eggplant and pickled cabbage. The bread was warm, soft, and so flavorful in itself but made even better by the hummus-tehina, which was perhaps the smoothest I've ever had. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder fell right off the bone, and the Amba-braised Greens and Crispy Persian Rice were side dishes that felt like main events in themselves -- the crispiness of the rice perfectly complemented the pomegranate sauce of the lamb. This was the perfect celebration dinner, and Zahav quickly made it to the top of my list of places that live up to their hype and go above and beyond in the kindness realm.
