My son needed boots for a wedding and they helped him not only find a comfortable pair, but figure out the fit and style when he wasn't sure what he wanted. They have a large selection of high quality leather goods in addition to their beautiful boot selection. I highly recommend and would drive back from Pennsylvania just to shop here again!

Marietta has a deep history connected to the Ohio river and throughout the year there are many festivals that bring people in for a good time. I'm here in a quiet period and to me the downtown seems architecturally interesting and economically challenging. The Schafer Leather Store has been around since 1867 and sells a wide variety of leather goods and gifts. In particular, they have a huge selection of Kicker boots and Cowboy hats. I stopped in yesterday and was warmly welcomed by couple who owns the place and amused by a street guy who wandered in and complained that he couldn't get any credit here! It's a very nice shop and I got to peak in back where the do a lot of leather-related work themselves. We also chatted about some of his cattle work and the Iowa State Fair that we separately attended last year. I'd like to come back if I happen by this way again.

I've had the pleasure of visiting this store in person multiple times and he is always personable, welcoming, and kind. The store is a gorgeous homage to the artisan days where you can see endless high-quality, hand-crafted leather goods. It's truly a pleasure to see the work from a store like this! This year I was looking for a new belt to surprise my partner for his birthday. He stated that he wanted a full-grain leather belt, but I was unsure what that meant. Remembering the few times I visited this store, I called Dennis and he was happy to patiently walk through all of my questions on leather types, sizing, and engravement. I was also concerned that the order would not arrive on time as I was leaving the state soon and he made sure to get my order finished and sent within a day. Lastly, I cannot overstate how much my partner loved the belt, the quality, sizing, width, and finish were all extremely high quality and the price was so much more affordable than all those mass-produced leather goods sold by large fashion corporations (most of which are not quality leather). I fully trust that his belt will last and look lovely for many years to come, and I'm looking forward to picking up some new belts and other gifts for our family and friends!

I'm a sucker for anything made in high quality vegetable tanned leather. Dennis was great to talk to, and we made a connection through Virginia and the work he did for Colonial Williamsburg. I always stop in his shop when I'm in town to visit my dad even if it's just to smell the leather.

As evidenced in my photos, they do provide reselling services and corking services for Birkenstocks. You walk in and the place is full of stuff; People's boots, purses, luggage, leather briefcases, leather jackets, and much much more. I had a simple problem. I needed a pair of boots stretched. I have large feet. Sasquatch like. I brought in my Ariats that have been sitting in my closet for 3 years now. The owner is behind a counter piled up with jobs he is working on and equipment he uses to do his craft. He is brusque. "$45. 2 weeks" I think at first "That's a lot to stretch some boots" I go back. He says, brusquely "If they are still tight tell me where, toes, ankles, shaft/calves? I will stretch again" I tell him that I am leaving for work and that I am a flight attendant and I won't be back in town for a month, can I try them when I get back and let him know? He looks at me and nods. I finally get home and try the boots they fit great. So in this crazy economy is $45 a lot of money? To me it is, but to pay a craftsman for a craft that will soon be hard to find, it is well worth it. Bottom Line: my expensive boots have finally made it out of the closet thanks to Dr. Shoe! Extra points for honesty - I went in the other day with a large cheap piece of luggage that had the zipper broken on an outer pocket. He said it will cost you double the cost of a new suitcase to repair that because it would have to be done all by hand and I would have to charge for my time. Thank you!
