Tulum Bus Terminal - De regreso a #PlayaDelCarmen #Work

Tulum Bus Terminal

(1 review)

Can it get any more convenient than this? Right in the middle of downtown Tulum. Few steps away…read morefrom the town center. The bus terminal is small but is so intelligently designed and very strategically located. Another addition to the long list of outstanding things about this wonderful town called Tulum! Here are some of the key highlights: 1. It's best to book your tickets a few days in advance given how much the locals and tourists rely on the bus connections going in and out of Tulum. Especially if you are going to the Airport or down south to Chetumal or even up north towards Merrida. Playa del Carmen - maybe not. Too many collectivos plying back and forth on that route. 2. Booking in advance also helps you choose the seats on the buses. It is not first come first serve system for boarding here. Seats get assigned and you can choose your preference when you book them. (take notice Greyhound / Peter Pan / Megabus / et al!) 3. The staff at the counter is very friendly. And they all speak la ingles! 4. One very important point: During the month of February. some parts of Quintana Roo (that includes Tulum), turn the clocks forward by an hour as compared to Cancun time. The buses leave according to the Tulum time. So booking the tickets at this bus terminal becomes even more important so that you know you are going to board your bus at the right time and not miss it by an hour. There are 2 Big Clocks showing The 2 different times - right next to the bookin window! This is of importance because in this modern day and age, the cell phones (if they get the wireless network you are riding on) refuse to come to terms with this reality that is followed only in this beautiful region. No auto update for Quintana Roo time? Take that iOS and Android devices - some place you guys are completely useless! 5. There is a small store attached to the bus terminal that sells essentials - water, soda, juices, coffee, to go snacks and sandwiches, Hola magazines en espaniol, and such. Pretty awesome! PS: No cerveza! (Nothing in this world is 100% awesome) 6. The terminal also has a very well kept, Neat and Very Clean public rest room that is pay-to-use. Huge, tall 8+ feet turnstiles to get access after you drop in the coin. Guess what - 5 pesos Only! ~ 35.3 US cents - that's some DEAL! 7. The information board outside the booking counter has a lot of information - in English and Spanish. Destinations, departure times, trip time, and fare prices that you can read and plan your move towards the booking counter with less queries. My many a college degrees come handy somewhere at least! 8. Finally, the seating area is not huge. For a terminal that can handle 4 buses standing next to each other, the hall has benches that can seat approx 30-40 (depending on people sizes and accompanied luggage) max and can get crowded pretty fast. But the benches are well apart that when to full capacity, you won't be feeling like one of the 37 sardines crammed in a tiny can. No - you will be just fine. As goes common sense - arrive a little early. Grab a good spot. Do some people watch. Maybe you will get lucky, catch a free show, before you go. Awesome tourists from somewhere in Wales, taking out zip locks of baby carrots, eating healthy before a bus ride to Chetumal, asking their tour Italian guide about whether the mini bus they will be on for the second trip will really be a chicken bus and he replies, yes, but no birds on board, but crowded enough that there won't be seats - just standing space for the 2 hour ride through the mountains... Precious!! I know where I will be going to next... Enjoy!!

The menu leans heavily toward seafood and Mayan influences, and I have always been extremely happy with my meals. The service is great, the atmosphere wonderful and the "special coffee" is a must have! The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is that Hubby has been a little disappointed a couple times (ie. overcooked tuna). Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area or staying in the hotel.

Our two waiters both named Carlos were very good, but are very busy with other tables, so we didn't get to service that were accustomed to. We ordered the Mediterranean salad, it was very good but the lettuce should be crisp and cold and it wasn't. My wife ordered the ham croquettes, she's very happy with her dinner. I ordered the Ribeye steak with with french fries, the steak has to be one of the best steaks I have had in 20 years, absolutely delicious. The french fries were a little bit on the cold side and not crispy. It came with a salad, but again the lettuce was not cold, and not crispy. Overall, we highly recommend Nainos Restaurant. My wife had the margarita and she says it's one of the best margaritas that she has ever had, the bartender; Carlo's who was also I waiter did a fantastic job with that drink. Just steps from Valladolid's buzzing zócalo, where scooters zip past and church bells cut through the heat, this place hides in a garden like a well-kept secret. Lantern light. Greenery. The kind of setting that makes you slow down whether you meant to or not. Romantic without trying too hard. The food? Solid. Confident. Proudly Yucatecan. Sausages with snap and smoke. Poc chuc--citrus-marinated pork, kissed by flame--bright and satisfying after a long day wandering ruins. And the beef pibil, wrapped in that earthy, achiote-stained depth that tastes like it's been cooking since before you bought your plane ticket. Not fussy. Just honest, regional flavor done right. Presentation was sharp without being pretentious. Plates came out looking like someone cared. Service was efficient--no hovering, no theatrics. They know you're hot, hungry, and probably still thinking about pyramids. They move accordingly. It's the kind of place that feels like a reward. Ancient wonders by day. Garden dinner by night. Save yourself some stress and please use our directions to drive to this wonderful establishment: From Cancun/Airport - Take 307 to 180 to 180D (basically follow the signs to Valladolid/Merida). Be warned, this is a toll road. It costs about 300 pesos and they do not accept foreign currency or credit cards. The cost is about $15-20 USD, but will save you about 90minutes. Since it is a toll road, there are no towns or gas stations till you hit Valladolid (about 90km). After about an hour (we drove the speed limit), take 295 South towards Valladolid. At the roundabout, follow the signs to Cancun via 180 (the Northeastern part of the "wheel" if you look at a map). At the stop sign, take a left and cross over the highway and 2 exit/entrance ramps to the Hotel (It's a huge sign/gated entrance). If you see Mayapan Traditional Agave Distillery, you've gone West instead of East. If you see the police stop in Valladolid, you've gone too far and do not use the 180 that runs through town; it will take you all the way to Tulum. Five Stars isn't enough to describe how amazing Hacienda Kaan AC. A hidden gem in the Yucatan that has set the standard for all of our future stays at any Resort/Bed & Breakfast. We were hesitant to write this review, because we thought about keeping it for ourselves and the locals that visit here often. If you are looking for a combination of rest and adventure, look no further. The Hacienda, itself, is rich in history, which is detailed in a book written in 1864. The book, "El Filibustero" described the adventure and love story of a pirate that resulted in the property that is translated from Mayan to mean "High in the Sky," hence the hotel's other name "El Olimpo." Even the main building, El Castillo, was reconstructed from the archaeological remains of a 16th century castle (large pictures of the site are located in the resorts restaurant) and contains an extensive collection of artwork from that period. Yes, you are literally staying in a museum and historical site located in the heart of the Yucatan. More on adventure: We highly recommend that you have your own transportation if you decide to stay here. The hotel is located 15minutes North of ancient city of Valladolid, a great place for strolling through its colonial-era stone streets to visit extremely tourist friendly restaurants, chapels, markets, and cenotes. Three major Mayan Ruins are located within driving distance: Chichen Itza, Ek' Balam, and Coba (the last is located in Quintana Roo half way between the hotel and the ocean), Many cenotes are located around the hotel in addition to their own private one (the mechanism used for raising and lowering people looks ancient and scary - we don't think it has been in operation for years). More on relaxation: During your stay, you can enjoy their pools, wander the grounds, or just relax in their comfortable rooms with jetted tubs and powerful AC units. You'll basically have your own private Butler that works the grounds and the restaurant. Edwardo worked two of the three nights that we visited. English was not his first language, but he was extremely patient and friendly. Helping us despite our horrid Spanish (we've gotten rusty over the last ten years since living in Juarez) and teaching us some Mayan in the process: "Ni'bo'olal!". Each stay comes with a complimentary breakfast at their restaurant too (Please see our separate review for the restaurant). I could write pages on how amazing and relaxing our stay was Hacienda Kaan AC. We'd love to return and, if your looking for an amazing hotel on your adventures in the Yucatan, we suggest you that you plan your stay here.
