The restaurant is now known as the Stro Brassiere for the neighborhood. This is a quaint little place not far from the maddening crowds of Martelaarsgracht street which runs from the central train station southward through the main part of town. This restaurant however is a few blocks to the West, past all of the head shops and in a very pleasant area where two canals meet. They have a deck over the canal junction/lock, which in good weather like today, is a wonderful place to have a beer and eat some of the local hors d'ouvres. The wait staff is very pleasant and helpful and the group there of patrons is a mixture of locals and of tourists. I think there was about twice as much Dutch spoken there as English or Spanish.
Canal boats, seagulls and merry makers are noisily busy but a friendly atmosphere prevails. read more
