I don't think I have ever bought anything here but I love to look around when I'm in the area (esp having breakfast next door!). Sometimes I have been tempted, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. There is always a ton of couches. And on the other side of the store, a weird array of things you wouldn't expect at a used store, like appliances and flooring, and who-knows-what. read more

Shopping here, like at other used furniture stores, is hit or miss. Sometimes you find what you need at a great price. Other times, you strike out and have to keep looking. The proceeds also support Habitat for Humanity, so that's cool. We have donated several items here and will do so again. We didn't buy anything on our most recent visit but will be back. read more

f you are looking to donate, there are other more professional and responsible and respectful operations. The people doing the pickup are not given important information so arrive unprepared and end up leaving without the donations. .If you have a pet, don't bother, as they won't take your donation since a customer once complained about pet hair. This is information they could have shared ahead of time instead of expecting donors to arrange their schedule and wait for a pickup Disrespectful of donor's time and effort. You never know what you might find here in terms of furniture so it pays to check back often. Plus, items continually get marked down which is denoted by their color coded tags. There is a sign at the register with the breakdown of the discounts. The sign isn't big or obvious so if you don't know about the tag system you may pass something else that still has the original price in it. I had an eye on a chair and ottoman for my son but it was priced originally at $150 so I moved right along. When I went to the register to pay for some dishes I saw the sign and after doing the math, found out it was down to $20 so home it went with me! The caveat is that some items go so quickly that if you absolutely love something you'd better get it. I missed out on a 60s mod vanity that was so amazingly me but I balked at the $200 price tag. Of course, when I went back it had sold. Drats! They have a section of repurposed, upcycled items that volunteers have made that are unique and well, purposeful! There were some dragonflies made out of bed posts and ceiling fan blades, a play kitchen made with leftover kitchen parts, and a tv stand. They do workshops to teach you how to get started making your own creations. Most of the volunteers are nice here with a few that must just be there for community service hours or just in bad moods. Even though I'm looking for a bargain it's always a pleasure to part with money know that it goes to our community's Habitat for Humanity. read more

Excellent place to get home furnishings for cheap! I was really impressed by the amount of inventory they had, including flooring, light fixtures, mattresses, and cabinetry. So many great pieces here that could be upcylced. Drop off was a breeze and the customer service was outstanding. I went to look for furniture to put my reptile cages on here because I am broke and needed cheap used furniture. I finally found a beat up side table that had one drawer, cracked wood on top and no handle on the only draw. $15. They would not budge on a price. There were other things that were decently priced but I wouldn't go back because of some bad attitudes from a round lady at the front and I didn't actually get help for at least 15 minutes, just standing and waiting around. I get that the money is for a cause but at least appropriately price the stuff and have friendly staff. read more

Drop off was quick and easy and the location at 15-501 has recently moved to electronic donation forms, meaning I have a clear record for my taxes and no longer need to keep track of a tiny donation receipt. Habitat's volunteers are always excellent and a definitely a key reason this location is a preferred donation spot for me. read more

A little expensive on the furniture front, but they do have random cool stuff at good prices. For example, they have: - TV Season DVDs (I saw good seasons of "The Office" (the American one)), as well as other movies. - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Nintendo Gamecube. Does anyone other than me own a Gamecube? No? Well I already own Wind Waker, so I'm out of luck here. - CDs. Are you missing out because you don't own John Mayer's "Room For Squares"? Do you want to blare "Your Body Is A Wonderland" throughout your apartment, upsetting your neighbors with your musical tastes? You can do that thanks to ReStore. - Books. Lots of books. You need a copy of Twilight on the cheap? They have it. You can read a book that's half the length of the Alabama state Constitution. The Alabama state Constitution also has fewer whiny characters. - A painting of a dog. It looked like a nice painting of a dog. - A plastic bunny. No, wait, I bought the plastic bunny. You can't have that. It's mine, and it's awesome. I'm even going to post a picture of the plastic bunny to show you what you missed out on. Haha to you, yay to me. So take a look. There's stuff here. The staff at this store discriminate against those with medical conditions and are unable to wear a mask. I showed them the CDC, Executive Order 147, and a doctors note for the exemption to wearing a mask, and they still threw me out. Instead they offered to have me wait outside and they would bring out "every item" to me to look at. I doubt they are going to be willing to bring me "every item," and if you can't bring them all outside for me to look at, that's discrimination and not making it equal access to all. When I went to other Restore's and when I went to the Habitat headquarters to do a job, they had no problem following the Executive Order 147 and allowed me to go in without a mask. The staff are the ones that are going to get the entire program in trouble if they don't start following the ADA laws. read more

This place is OK, but it's mostly furniture and large housewares (Stoves, washing machines, etc). I assume these are parts that have come out of remodels but are still in OK shape so they get resold. The store is a little hard to get to since they are on a service road. Tip: The store is actually on Watkins road. Go to the southwest corner of the intersection of Durham Chapel Hill Blvd and Mt. Moriah by the Outback Steakhouse - you can get onto the service road from there I found the Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store (which is a couple of miles away) to be better; but then again I am not your typical thrift shopper; I am not looking at furniture/appliances or clothing at thrift shops (so I ignore 80% of the store, right off the bat), I go for electronics, books, and other small items. read more

This is a great place to come to for any kind of fix it job you might have to find supplies for a low-low price. It's always a worth while stop before going and paying retail prices for brand new items. They also have lots of odds and ends for decorating, stocking your kitchen with dishware, small appliances, furniture and even books. Friendly and helpful employees make it a very pleasant experience. They also take donations so if you're doing any remodeling and cleaning out your garage they're happy to take your stuff! read more

Quality: If you've never been to a ReStore (which I never had until I moved to the area) the store sells literally everything that you can furnish your home with, as shown below: --Large items include: a wide selection of couches (mostly well-worn down), ottomans, an occasional futon, mirrors (small and large), shelving, wire shelving, desks, side tables, old restaurant furniture, doors, windows, and large kitchen appliances. --Small items include: a smallish moderate selection of housewares including mismatched plates and cups, small kitchen appliances (crockpots, toasters, breadmachines), old stereo systems, home improvement supplies (piping, random plumbing and electronic accessories), old workout equipment, and outdated books (they should really get rid of this section.. or sell all their books for 2-cents). Quantity: It's a big place, and there's a lot to see. Divided into 3 fairly equal sections: the left is the furniture, the middle/right are the smaller items, the far right are the doors/windows and large kitchen appliances. I keep going back because turnover is pretty good, and every time I return there is something new. Price: Pricing varies, for furniture I bought an ottoman for $25. Furniture can range from $15 - $200 depending on quality. Small household goods were comparably priced to goodwill. I've never really wandered closely enough to the large household appliances to give you an accurate pricing. Credit Card is accepted. read more

This ReStore has its highs and its lows... Lows: Some things are way too expensive. I recently saw a table lamp I liked... woah $40??? They have to be nuts with some of their prices. It's NOT an antique mall, it's a THRIFT store! Yes, I know the money is going to charity... but I think they should also be trying to help regular people out by not charging an arm-and-a-leg. Most of the furniture and large electronics are also overpriced. They do get some cool looking furniture sometimes... but I honestly have to preach against buying used furniture, because you never know where you'll pick up bedbugs! Highs: Usually the small things. I've found great hardback books, and also some random cool vintage things in the dishes and glassware. One day this summer, they randomly had a ton of camellia plants... on fire sale for only $2 each! And these were like $20+ camellia plants. So honestly, this ReStore is always worth a look. You might gawk at some high prices, but you might also find something cool. read more

It's a thift store, so it's going to be hit or miss on the selection. But if you're moving to the area and looking for inexpensive furniture, this is definitely the place to go! My husband and I came here in late July and got a steal on a beautiful wooden dining room table with two benches as well as a big wooden chest. All of that for only $80! I've been back twice since then. The first time was the week after the UNC undergraduates moved in and the place looked half empty. Overall it's a pretty big store with a large selection. If you are flexible with what you are looking for, then you can most likely find it here. I've found everything is pretty reasonably priced, and they always have sales on items with different colored tags. The service has always been great and very helpful as well! Also, if you buy large items and don't have a truck, there is a Home Depot right nearby where you can rent for $20/hour. They will also hold your items for 2 days if you can't take them right away. read more

This is a great thrift store for building supplies and some types of furniture. I often see cabinets (both kitchen and bathroom), sinks, toilets and lighting fixtures here. The new, larger location on 15-501 has even more room for the building supplies so I expect their inventory to grow! I have purchased a washing machine, a couch and two full size bookshelves from this store. I love that I am supporting a very worthy cause when I shop here. The employees are mostly volunteers I think and are very friendly. Also, they offer delivery for $50 within a limited radius and for $100 within the rest of Durham. That means I was able to get my couch and washing machine delivered (same day!) for $100. Sometimes the pricing seems a little strange and the furniture can either be a GREAT deal or pretty pricey for something used. However, I make an effort to check back often since there are some real gems here. Additionally, keep in mind, this store doesn't sell clothing, only homegoods. read more

I hit this place up at least once every two weeks - more often if I can! The inventory turns over quicker than you can claim it - I've actually had a chair bought from right under me - while I was sitting in it! I've found several great mirrors here, baskets, and a fabulous blue velvet chair for my family room. There's a lot of junk as well, so you definitely have to look for treasure, but it's worth the time. They've got a great selection of old brass light fixtures that would look great spray-painted and hanging in a fun kitchen or even a closet chandelier! The trick here is similar to visiting TJ Maxx - you gotta visit often and look for the good stuff - but you'll find it eventually! read more

Gosh during the early part of the year, I would have given 5 stars but, now they charge almost new prices for many items. In example, an old Hamilton Beach crock pot, $25??? I wasn't interested but thought it was a reach. Looks like new management has cleaned and organized but passed the prices on to the customer. I used to come all the time I won't now. I see nothing that I would deem enough of a deal to purchase. This is my third time leaving empty handed. That never happened before :( read more

There is a huge ton of junk here, but there is also some decent stuff you just have to hunt for it. If Lowes was merged with the PTA thrift store, you would get this place. Lots of appliances, they'll let you turn them on and test them before purchase which is good. Stock is constantly rotating, so if you see something you like - grab it. read more

Got my dresser here and will certainly come back when the time comes that I need 58 commercial-grade foaming soap dispensers, a gang of sheetrock, and a curling iron. An amazing place to find good quality used furniture! I've gotten a desk and a rolling shelving unit there and both were extremely reasonably priced. The shelves were a little scratched on the top, but for a $15 used item, that's hardly a deal breaker! Love this store, so glad I just happened upon it. You will find all kinds of household items from furniture to towel racks. Doors, windows, cabinets, ceiling fans, lighting, tile, tools, appliances etc... Anything you need for a house, you should be able to find here for a fraction of the price. Walking in, this store is bigger than the other stores of theirs I have been in. To your right, there are surprisingly a lot of home materials such as wood floor panels and counter tops. There were also a large amount of large rugs. I assume that builders or Home Depot donate a lot of bulk items here, so I recommend coming here to browse when looking for home materials. They also had many sanitized mattress and entertainment display cases. You never know what you can find here, I unfortunately did not find anything. Pro tip - avoid the bathroom, it was very very dirty. read more

The store itself is really dingy looking, and items are organized but rather haphazardly. The staff is really nice and helpful, but a bit elusive in this sprawling store. We came here to look for a ceramic pot for Sharon P.'s plants, but the only ones in the store were marked "sold." Does that mean that people can reserve items and pick them up later .. ? Whatever it is, we wandered around cursorily, glanced at tables and things, and left. I think you can definitely pick up good deals here, but it's rather a depressing place. :( read more

Unfortunately virtually everything was quite old, and the couches specifically were in very poor condition. I mean, it's a thrift store right? So why the heck are they charging $500 for a friggin USED leather recliner? I stop by here all the time searching for all sorts of stuff, mainly used stereo gear. But the prices they want for some of the stuff is ridiculous - enough to make Jimmy Carter lose his peanuts. I'm all about supporting such a good cause, but they seriously need to reevaluate their prices. They basically look at eBay and try to get the most they can get for an item - effectively ruining the true thrift store experience of finding something special at minimal cost. read more

I used to go to habitat very frequently and purchase many items but ever since they moved to the new restore the items have gotten extremely expensive, like a 500 dollar dishwasher.. and 40 dollars for a bent blade ceiling fan. What happened to the 50 dollar dishwashers and the 5 dollar fans and all the other decently priced items?Some things are priced more expensive than Walmart or Target!! I will now go about once a month and still am disappointed, i hope it will get better. read more

The people there are really nice and helpful. But yes, the store is huge and overwhelming. There are lots of things not found at other good wills, such as building supplies (doors, windows, wood) as well as the traditional furniture and household items. Having just moved to town, my boyfriend and I were on a search for vintage/antique furniture. We hit up multiple places and this was by far the biggest disappointment. The couches were so dirty and beat up, that you couldn't pay me to put one in my house! Other than that, they mostly stocked large appliances (lighting, sinks, etc). ReStore sells a lot of contractor stuff (cabinets, large appliances, counter tops, fixtures, etc.), but also has some home goods. They do not sell any clothing here. I really find it to be hit and miss. Their pricing is very inconsistent, and good stuff will disappear very quickly. So yes, that banged up, POS dining set that they've priced at $600 is going to sit there for ages, while the burled wood dining set they priced at $100 is going to be fought over and taken very quickly. The only way I've gotten good deals is either by pure accident, or because I was stopping by every day until I found what I wanted. If you need odds and ends for some kind of DIY project, this is a great place. read more

I am an avid thrifter and honestly this is as good as it gets for thrifting. It's huge. It's inexpensive. They have an INCREDIBLE variety of stuff. The staff is lovely. There is a convenient loading dock they roll out the stuff onto and into your car. And what stuff. We came down to move our daughter into grad school at UNC and over 3 days we bought: a couch, 3 armchairs, an office chair, an end table, 2 bookcases, a curtain rod, some great wooden vintage skirt hangers and book binders. I finally found the time to stop by today to pick up a used faucet for the play kitchen I've been building for my kids for Christmas. To my disappointment, they no longer are allowed to sell faucets because of the lead issue. As I continued to look around for something else to use, I came across a display of items that someone could purchase for $25 to build a play kitchen - including faucets! But upon asking if I could just purchase a faucet(its the only thing I needed), I was told that I had to buy everything or else pay $25 for just the faucet. I'm not sure about the true mission of this Habitat store, but guess what? I'm trying to 1. repurpose used items and 2. save money because we don't have much to spend this year. This was the most ridiculous encounter and I am now left with giving my kids a kitchen without a faucet. I am pregnant and actually left in tears. Highly disappointing, I think they need to re-evaluate their purpose and I would caution anyone looking to be eco-friendly and creative to be prepared for frustration. read more
