its one of the best korean/japanese grocery stores. The fruits and veggies are pretty cheap.(cheaper than kingsoopers, safeway, albertsons) But do not buy the cooked items like the korean side dishes. I bought a couple and they had gone bad! Had to return it. Also do not buy the non food products you see when you walk in. The owner of those is very rude. My mom bought a water bowling electric thing there and she went to return it and the guy was rude and basically told my mom that she was just trying to return a perfectly fine item cuz she's cheap. My mom got sooo angry that she threw it in the trash in front of him and yelled at him in Korean. The other little stores inside the grocery stores are okay. The people there are nice. Nice big supermarket in Denver. Not quite the same as a full-service Korean supermarkets that I'm used to in the l.a. area, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some necessary items. We found some prepared kimbap and fried items, and water at decent prices. Nice bustling store, with a lot of non-Asians. Pricing seemed fairly reasonable, based on what little I saw. On the way out to the parking lot, an employee ran out and was looking for someone who didn't pay for some food or something at the mini-shop inside. So there are some dishonest patrons coming here, but other than that the store was a nice stop-over. read more

I went to H Mart approximately a week ago to purchase fish. I approached the fish counter and there were 3 individuals finishing up an order with their back to me. I asked for assistance and one of the individuals said "no", and the proceeded to laugh without even turning around to acknowledge me. I asked to speak to their manager and they indicated he was not around. I went to the front desk and informed the individual there what had transpired and she came back to the fish counter with me. There was an additional person there at the time. One of the 3 persons, who was originally there started to speak. He stated he informed me they were busy and I did not have a number. I informed the person who came back with me that I did not have to have a number because I was the only person there and I had no interaction with this person. He just flat-out lied. This is a prime example of poor customer service and should be corrected. read more

This is a great place to come with someone who knows what all the vegetables are and how to use them and I got to do just that which was so much fun... It is fun to explore the aisles and discover all the goodies this place has to offer... My next adventure will be with my husband to get some gen-maicha with macha powder in tea bag form..... just like they make at Sushi Den.... We did try some fresh shrimps here that were in a great big bin and I think we got some that were kind of old as our tummy's got upset... So be careful of how fresh it all is... But the canned goods and the other goods are top rate... We love all the different types of sauces here. read more

This place discriminates against you if you have a toddler or don't speak Korean. Here's what happened to me and my 3 year old daughter. We walked into this restaurant around 6:45pm, the lady owner at the front counter told me to take my food to go because she's closing. So I took my food to go. My daughter and I sat to the side of the restaurant inside of HMART to eat our food. At about 7:05pm, I noticed the lady owner seated 3 tables after telling me she was closing and that I had to order my food to go. I asked her why she seated others after telling me I couldn't sit in her restaurant to eat. She said she can close whenever she wants. I noticed the people who she seated did not have kids and maybe even spoke Korean. I will never eat at the restaurant. read more

This is a pretty large Asian grocery store. They have a large produce section that has Asian specific fresh veggies. Be careful when getting the fruit that is in a package, make sure there isn't moldy ones at the bottom. They have a huge fresh fish counter in the back, along with the kim-chee, the store takes on that smell. They have a whole aisle for noodles and a large section for seaweed. Really, anything that you need, you should be able to find it here. One gripe I have is that you can only buy bean sprouts in something like 2 lb packages. All I want is maybe 1/4 pound. I asked them if they could package up a smaller package and they said no. The store can be crowded. I've had my cart 'moved' twice as I walked away to look at something. I had a hard time looking for it the first time. I caught the guys the second time. People just don't pay attention that they are pushing someone else's cart and before you know it, your cart is in the next section. The restaurant/cafe inside is okay. They make sushi but the sushi chef comes in around lunch so you can't get special sushi plates after lunch time. They do make a good veggie type sushi roll that is available in the refrigerated counter. I got the kalbi plate. It came with a lot of ribs, good amount of steamed white rice, kim-chee and a soup. The kalbi tasted great, but the bone chips took away from enjoying the meal. Steamed rice was a little dry, not sure if it was microwaved. Kim-chee was good. So, having been disappointed by the Korean selection at other Asian markets in the area, I decided to give H Mart a shot. Let me tell you, if you're looking for Korean food, or any kind of product, this is the place. I have pretty high standards, too, just having moved back to the states from Korea. However, the moment I walked into H Mart I was taken back to Seoul. They have EVERYTHING you could ever want or need from Korea--and pretty much any part of Asia, really. I did notice, though, that the price was quite a bit higher than other places. I guess that's the trade off for being able to find whatever ingredient you need. Had the prices been slightly more reasonable I would have given this 5 stars. Regardless, it is an excellent place if you're needing anything related to Korea. read more

i had a very bad experience with the fish department. waited in line for more than 30 min people jump the line and nobody cares. when i went to the supervisor he speaks a different language and he does not understand what you say. when i went to the store manager she says yes we know that issue and she does not care if i bought the fish or not so careless response. i doubt if there their product when their customer service is so bad. read more

If you love Ikura (Salmon roe/eggs) then this is the best place in Denver to buy them. Sure, they're expensive, about $18 to $20 per pound, but oh man they are so delicious. Be sure to check the "packed on" date to make sure you're getting eggs that are less than 2 days old. I love to eat a spoonful of them and then sip on some primo vodka, so delicious. Also, they have the Kupi Japanese mayonnaise which is very hard to find and only $5. If you like fermented soybeans (Natto), HMart is the best place to buy it....always fresh frozen and delicious.....a great way to stay healthy. read more

I was looking for lemongrass. I could have just gone to Soopers, but I didn't want to pay $3 for 1 sprig. So I drove down Havana. I hit up M Mart, but they didn't have lemongrass, the help was surly, and the place was dingy. Then I stumbled on H Mart, the clouds parted, and the angels sang. Not only did they have lemongrass for $1.30 a pound, they had banana leaves and an entire aisle of seaweed. And Comforter Town for all my bedding needs. Very upset as this is my favorite store to grocery shop... but a couple days ago we went to get some tuna for sushi and some other seafood (we live in Aspen) so we were excited to drive home for 3 hours and get our tuna only to find out that the Tuna was not put in the bag!! Along with other expansive seafood!! We cannot go to Denver in a couple months now and it was very upsetting to spend almost $100 for mostly ramen noodles. read more

This place is crazy. Walking in you feel like you're in a different country. They have great deals, especially on produce. I often see quality limes for 7-10 for $1! I'm not Asian, but my adoptive sister is, and occasionally we want to make homemade dumplings or soup, so we come here. First things first: it's really big, very easy to get lost in if you don't know your way around, but with a big store comes giant selections. There was plenty of things on what we needed and a couple samples of things like pears and melon. Overall, I think this H Mart had seafood, meats, produce, grains and grain products, dairy, snacks, basically everything from breakfast to dessert. The staff were all helpful when we asked for some directions. Includes a clean atmosphere and bathroom. This H Mart is like the less-bulk and Asian version of Costco. The checkout was slow but we got what we came for, and there's plenty of everything. My only problem was we watched as a kid cry as someone beat a lobster to death on the seafood counter, but besides the child sobbing, great place to go shopping. read more

I went wow walking into this place the first time. I knew enough for a foreigner to get everything my heart desired, save money, and explore what just isn't my everyday. Okay, twice they were out of my ginger candy- but what shopping center hasn't run out of something? I've not purchased the fresh fish here although I have been to a friend's table who had. Ihave no complaints as it tasted good and the department smelled fresh as it should have. I like sample days, much is offered and not just fancy products but produce freshly in. I've been able to buy more unique to my world produce....even a jack fruit if I was so inclined. candy prices as is meats are not as cheap at this store versus a walmart kingsoopers even type grocery- but such reflects dietary differences and highlights healthier eating anyway! puuffed rice cakes explode out of the side shops of independant vendors or get a new celluar phone- this place is its own little slice of Pan- Asian Community versus just a supermarket. take a cheaper vacation after visiting your local library for information and let H-Mart take you to the other side of the world for dinner tonight. read more

Used to come to the H all the time when I lived in Atlanta. Very happy to find one in CO. This is by far the best grocery store in the Denver area. Produce selection and prices simply cannot be matched. If you're sick of your typical carrots, lettuce and peppers at safeway, come down here to browse the enormous selection. On my last visit, they had 5 varieties of cucumbers. Also love the selection of asian staples and prepared foods. I live downtown but drive down here at least once a week. read more

H Mart is our go-to place for all of our Asian staples. At first I was going to the ones off of Federal but I like H Mart better for the better quality produce, meats, and the fact it is clean! Sure, it's a Korean market, but they have what I need to cook most of the Filipino dishes I normally make. As far as prices, they are reasonable for living here in the Denver area. It is quite painful checking out at the register to almost dish out $100 (or more) when I'm used to paying *almost* half of that in the Bay Area. *sigh* read more

Fresh fish, samples everywhere, very inexpensive. Yes, I was the only white person there yesterday, but it was an exciting shopping experience for me. It's so great that Denver is so culturally diverse. The people there are friendly, too, and didn't scoff at me when I asked where I could find the Napa cabbage. Good selection of asian groceries and a small fresh fish market inside as well as a bakery, rice cake shop, and boba stall. Vegetables aren't always fresh and they are always changing the layout of them so it's hard to find what you're looking for at times. Wow, this place is a mecca in Aurora. If you are looking for real, authentic Asian food and food items, this is the place to go. I moved from the neighborhood but still go back to H Mart to get wonderful produce and fish. Ok, so take this review with a grain of salt since I just hoped into hmart to grab a couple of things. They have a great selection of fresh veggies, noodles, and fish. They even have some brands I can only find in Hawaii like Aloha shoyu (that's soy sauce). This place is pretty far from the burbs, but I would def come back, especially if I had an appetite and wanted to hit up the Korean restaurant inside the market and get me some Bulgogi after stocking up my pantry. read more

There's not much that I can add to the other 120 reviews except to say this place is worth the drive from Greeley on a monthly basis. You can find the oddest meats (duck bills), wonderfully fresh (live!) seafoods, exotic produce, an entire grocery aisle with nothing but seaweeds, and so, so, SO much more -- all at ridiculous prices. It's heaven for those who are into the green tea stuff. I was so happy when I knew there's a such nice Asian grocery store when I just moved to Colorado from Ohio. Up until my last trip to H Mart I would have given it really high ratings. But we bought some short ribs that had four more days according to the date. I opened one package two days later and the smell was nauseating. They were rancid and awful. I threw them away but kept the other pack in the fridge hoping I could return them the next day. It takes me a good hour+ round trip to get to H Mart so I could not go the next day and the remaining pack already smelled bad (through the plastic) so I took a photo of the labels and threw them all out. I have called and sent numerous emails to complain (I was out over $20). The person on the phone said dairy and meat had to be returned within a day and nobody has answered my emails. What good is an expiration date if the food does not come close to lasting that long and you can't return it anyway? I feel very sketched out about the meat now and if I ever return there, it will only be for pantry items. What a huge disappointment. read more

For my Hawaii and San Francisco friends, Costco doesn't carry the large bags of Japanese rice or California Short Grain Rice here in Denver. H Mart is the only place I can find them. Also, around 3 years ago my Fujitsu rice cooker stopped working, so I bought the new Induction Heating System Zojirushi rice cooker at H Mart because they recommended it as it could keep cooked rice hot for up to 3 days. 3 months ago it still kept the rice hot, but the rice would spoil after the first day. I brought it back to H Mart, and they said they would send it back to the factory. H Mart covered all the shipping costs - everything. They handed me back the unit 3 weeks later and apologized for not having a rice cooker for 3 weeks. It works like it is brand new. Suddenly, I didn't miss the convenience of buying Japanese rice at Costco quite so much. read more

H Mart is a lot more than just a little slice of Asia. The old cliche so often applied to restaurants is that they are "a little slice of Marrakech" or "just like this place across from the hotel in Milan" or "if you were married to a Lichtensteinerin and your mother were Swahili and your daughter were engaged to a recent immigrant from Laos, this restaurant could cater their wedding," but here, it works for an entire supermarket. Don't be mistaken; this is an American-size supermarket, not a grocer. Those little places with waving cat figurines in 17 sizes that compete for how much flotsam they can cram into the aisles are abundant in this neighborhood, but in terms of scope, H Mart has them beaten by orders of magnitude. H Mart looks like it inhabits the reanimated corpse of a whitebread supermarket, though it has been remodeled enough that it now has a character all its own. Most of the remodeling consisted of the addition of more cold storage. There are freezers and freezers and freezers, full of frozen sea cucumbers, blocks of seaweed, ducks (whole or "with parts missing"), ice cream sweetened with bean curd, and durians, if you dare. There's a fish counter, staffed by several guys with heavy knives chopping off the nonessential parts of the whole fish available there. Occasionally, they even have a barrel of live snow crabs on ice. The produce section is nothing short of vast. I sometimes take notes as i walk through it, writing down the names of all those melons, and reminding myself to look up some recipes that involve banana flowers. I'm getting better acquainted with all of the melons--which ones are the sweet ones, which ones taste like gourds, which are good in salads, which in soups--but i'll always be lost on the greens. Most days, i can't even get close enough to that wall of leaves to read their names, because of the narrow pathways crowded with discerning cabbage shoppers. On the times when i have pushed my way through, i have found, among all the varieties of onions and cabbages, the only fresh galangal i've seen anywhere in town. Normally, i'm content just to wander among the fruit bins. I can't leave H Mart without getting at least one Korean pear, or a bag of Korean grapes, or two kinds of mangoes, a couple of star fruits, or a handful of kumquats. H Mart would not be the place to go if you needed a bottle of ketchup, though. The selection of domestic condiments is very small and overpriced; but you really have no business looking at anything non-imported with so many strange and wonderful products so close at hand. read more

I had such a great time wandering the isles of H Mart. Each nook & cranny held tons of familiar and unfamiliar food and cooking paraphernalia -- from fresh veggies to live fish to can goods, H Mart seemed to have it all. Another plus is H Mart's moderate prices -- much lower then any of the local supermarkets who charge exorbitant prices on "ethnic items". Where King Stupid charged me $3.99 lb. for baby bok choy, H Mart was a very reasonable $1.29lb. The only drawback, if you will, is that you're on your own here -- don't expect any help from the grocery's staff. For that reason alone, I'll stick to the tiny Asian store on the other side of town, where I'm warmly greeted by the Thai owner, who gives me cooking hints, and steers me towards the fresh veggies and best buys of the day -- read more

Love this store! Service lacks, especially at checkout, but the dirt cheap and ever abundant produce more than makes up for it. I came into the area from the Washington, DC area. As a half-Korean, I was a frequent visitor of H-Mart that was in the DC metro area. To my surprise, I saw they had one here. It's about 15 min drive, but I got tired of being let down at all the crappy Korean places here. So I decided to just get ingredients and make my own. I'm a bit surprised at the smaller selection of meats. The place was way bigger than the one I went to back in DC, but the meat selection was sparse. It was kind of dirty too. A lot of the stuff I'd pick up at my old H-Mart, was simply not sold at this one... big let down. read more

Always a good experience coming here. I always stop to the side and buy some boba and the chocolate taiyaki. They have a great 5 for $5 deal. They also have a bakery and a restaurant inside that I have yet to try. their selection is always great from the seafood, to the candies. Any Asian product you need, they have. This place is huge! I went for just a few things, but ended up walking the entire store to see everything. The produce section is large. As many people have stated, you will find varying degrees of freshness. I was able to find Rambutans (that were brown), but took a chance and they still tasted good. I got a bag with 5-6 bunches of garlic for $0.59, which is a steal. The fish counter was a zoo. I had intended on getting some fish for sushi, but didn't want to wait in the line. I was able to find some fresh sashimi Hamachi in the frozen section and got that instead (it was very good!). The rice cake counter was entertaining. I'm not a huge fan of rice cakes, but these are actually pretty yummy. I was able to find the sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) that I love - not all Asian markets in Denver carry it. read more

Obviously being Korean, I'm going to go to H mart no matter what. That being said, if you have no other reason to go here, it should be if you want to pretend your on the TV show "Chopped" and want all the odd ingredients that are on the show. There is a good chance it will be there. Today, they have some lychee and longan which I am going to make a nice cocktail with. Over in the fish department, there was a big basket of blue crab that were snapping at the customers for 4.59 a lb. I know it sounds like I work for H mart or something. I don't do seafood often, but if you like different kind of fish, this place looks good to go and cheap. I usually buy specific items here, but often times I kick myself when I find the produce is cheaper than Sprouts. But in the summer, it is awesome to get some of the more exotic asian fruits.
