This HEB could just as well be the set for the real housewives of Westlake. The salad bar is great. The produce is good. All they need to get are organic Fuji apples. This HEB pretty much rules! Things I love: Made to order breakfast tacos in the morning. (Your daughter was right, Errol.) Nice selection of all natural beauty products (i.e. hair products, lotions, soaps) Amazing deli selection, almost as well stacked as CM. De.licious cooking demos during lunch time. This is my all-time favorite HEB. The customer service is outstanding. The cashiers are always friendly and there always seems to be an employee at my immediate disposal when I have trouble locating random items. They've got most of the exotic and high-end groceries I covet from Central Market, but they also have the cheap stuff and store brand items I need to finish off my shopping list. Their selection of wine, beer, and cigars is relatively uninspired but extensive nonetheless. They have a decent variety of organic produce. Their cheese section is the stuff of tawdry lactose daydreams, replete with accompanying fruit pastes and rich chocolates. The to-go food counter has a bunch of CM cafe favorites--a refuge of comfort-food sanity in this Gawd-forsaken outpost of yuppie hell. read more

This place went in where the Albertson's used to be. It's a good thing, because Albertson's obviously wasn't interested in continuing in the Austin market. H-E-B is a local chain and is very interested in being a good corporate neighbor/citizen. The new store is wonderful. It's got a prepared food bar, a sushi bar, a great produce section, and a better than average selection of other foods, standard mega-grocery store stock. The prices really are quite a bit lower than the Randall's down Bee Caves closer to town. There's a JPMorgan Chase bank branch in the lobby, a $1/day movie kiosk by the checkout, a pharmacy, etc. What a nice treat to have this cool new store open. read more

The HEB gods have come down from the heavens and replaced the craptastic Albertson's in Westlake. I shopped at the Albertson's out of convenience, but didn't have to like it. It's been gone for several months now and I have been waiting with baited breath for the HEB to open. "HEB with a Central Market flair" was what I was told when we said good-bye to Albertson's. It opened today. I went later in the day to avoid the masses. It. Was. Awwwesome. Walked in and was handed a pamphlet. No, wait...this is a map! No joke! I never looked at it, but did seem like it would come in handy. And I did see a few people using it. Made my way to the sushi bar--much like the sushi bars in other HEBs. Nice deli section, with a small eating area--about 4 tables. Produce is beautiful. Oh, and the cheese! There is cheese! And lots of cheese samples. Nothing wrong with that. Small flower section, but beautiful flowers, including fancy orchids. Good wine and beer selection. I didn't wander into the aisles too much, but I will say this. The signage is awesome. Instead of a large sign at the end of each aisle, along the rows of foods are specific labels. You can see how far down you need to go for each item. It makes sense (even if my writing of it does not). Nice pharmacy inside and also Chase bank. They have self check-out, which I LOVE, but am also a big fan of good customer service (who isn't, really?!). I went to a line and the girls were very friendly. Obviously new (they had some trouble with the customer in front of me), but very friendly and well-trained. It seems spacious enough--I never got the over-whelming crowded feeling of people about to run me over in their carts. Only downside that I saw was that each entrance only had one door. Welcome, HEB. Being located near Westlake, this HEB is nothing but old, rich, white people... The reason I mention this is that old white people don't grocery shopping at night, so after 10pm this place is a ghost town. I normally hit up HEB pretty late on weeknights and it's rare to see more than 3-4 other people in the entire place. Totally awesome for people with weird social anxiety issues or those who just want to avoid the bizarre slice of life that you tend to encounter at grocery stores... Pretty standard fare for an HEB. It's not one of those crazy super HEBs, but it has a good selection of just about everything. The coffee stand near the central market type prepared foods is surprisingly good (and cheap). The staff is really laid-back and cool at this HEB. They do some pretty cool samples too... Jester King Black Metal tastings? Why thank you sir, may I have another! read more

Wow! My new favorite grocery destination! This store is almost like the Goldilocks of HEBs.... Just right. This HEB has a huge selection of high-end and unusual grocery prodcuts that a foodie would expect to find at Central Market or even Whole Foods. But it also has a full grocery selection like any HEB. In other words, it's as close to one stop shopping as you can get. I went in last night with a full grocery list and came out with almost the entire list checked off -- and even more stuff that I had no idea I wanted or needed. There's something to be said for a grocery store that carries imported British steak sauces AND cheap frozen Hungry-Man chicken sandwiches. read more

I had a hard time deciding between 3 and 4 stars here. The parking is terrible, terrible, terrible. Clearly, Westlake needed an HEB and bad! So here's this HEB with a little bitty parking lot, and obviously it's a mess. Thankfully everyone in Westlake is always happy, and therefore make very polite drivers. So it's not scary, just crowded. It's a much smaller HEB than some of the others; it's just what they had to work with. Because of this, their selection is not as good for lesser known products. The upside is, there are some things you can get here, but not at other HEBs - more organic, more Central Market brand selections, etc. The prices here are higher than other HEBs - for example, the one on Brodie. I asked a manager about this one time. I had a very specific example of an item that was 50 cents more at the Westlake location vs. the Brodie location. All he could tell me was the the prices are "regional." Mmmhmm. The extra super wonderful thing about this HEB is their produce! I haven't bought produce at Brodie HEB in two years. After a moldy bell pepper, never right bananas, soggy cucumbers, and slimy carrots just a few too many times, I gave up. However, this HEB in Westlake always has fresh produce. From time to time you'll find out of season things like strawberries that aren't the absolute best strawberries you'll ever have, but they'll be priced accordingly. The staff at the HEB, like most HEBs, is wonderful. Everyone is always super nice and super helpful! The 4th star is mostly because this is a great location for me :-) If that isn't reason enough for added stars, I don't know what is. read more

This is pretty much the best HEB I've ever been to. It's like it has different parents than your normal HEB, like the HEB mom married the Central Market Dad and that's how this HEB was born. Very clean, very neat store. Also more a selection of organic/produce (they have broccolini... I have never been to another HEB that sells broccolini). It's not too big like some of the newer HEBs, and it's not ghetto or small like some of the older ones. It does have kind of a different layout, which confuses me and sometimes it takes me like 30 minutes to find a taco kit or something else that should be easy to find. But it is definitely my favorite HEB, and is also conveniently the closest one to my job. PS: They have plastic bags. Which I am a fan of. read more

This is a review for the salad bar at this particular location. I have not been to another HEB that has a salad bar, and I LOVE that this one does! I probably eat here 3x per week on my lunch break because it is healthy, cheap, fresh, and quick! I tend to load up more on the fresh produce side (broccoli, mushrooms, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, etc) than the ready-made salad side (pasta salad, egg salad, etc) but I have managed to get my salad making down to a science (and only spend ~$4.25 for lunch!) Yahoo! I'm docking the salad bar down one star because it seems like it must have been designed by someone who is 7 feet tall. Anyone under 5'6" has to reach wayyyy under the glass to grab food in the back row and it kind of defeats the purpose of having the guard. Sanitation is key!! Other than that, the salad bar is great. read more

The Pharmacy waits at this HEB are atrocious. The store is nice and it is my local HEB, but man, fix the dammed pharmacy or hire more people. Several times the waits are 3-5 times what I am quoted. Most recently I went in there at 7:30p to pick up a perscription for my sick daughter, am told 15 minutes, and walk out of there at 9:15. bad bad bad bad bad bad bad They only get 2 stars because the rest of the store is acceptable. However, we are thinking of heading to another pharmacy. read more

One of THE best HEBs in Austin. They are located in an upscale area, so their offerings cater to that population, turning this HEB into something like a Whole Foods with HEB prices. They have a GREAT beer and wine selection, the location is always well-staffed, and they have lots of great organic/fresh produce and meats. I knocked off a star based mostly on the people who patron this location, and their behavior in the parking lots. Suffice to say, I've been in more near-accidents than any where else in Austin here. And when I watch in stunned silence as someone in an Escalade reverses and slams into the back of my (parked) car, I really have to question the driving habits of the upper echelons that frequent this grocery store. read more

There are many HEB fish in the sea, and perhaps this is just another- but let me point out that this is one of the prize swordfish in the sea of the Austin area. First off, the layout of the store looks wonky, but it is actually a perfect layout for "perimeter shoppers" like myself. The produce department is huge and I've yet to see ugly produce here. There is a great deli selection and meat department. Of course, currently Westlake allows for plastic bags- so if you want to get your cat-poop bags, you can get them here with your purchase. One thing I REALLY like is that they have the best kitchen-gadget aisle outside of an HEB Plus. I particularly like HEB's Cocinaware line- and they have just about everything in the collection. I also enjoy coming here because they have a better variety of products than my usual HEB. I purchased a delicious full turkey for a Thanksgiving in March here as well as authentic beef cheek meat. This location also has a boatload of demos set up on the weekends I go there- moreso and with cheerier folks than at our usual HEB. The only real thing that can be tricky is parking, but depending on the time, it might not be an issue. read more

I grew up in San Antonio so HEB is a safe place for me. I know that i can trust the brand and that they will have the thing that I need. This one has lots of extras, but the biggest thing for me is the consistency. The lines move quickly, things are easy to find and its just a comfortable setting. This review is for their wine section only. The manager of this area, Rick, is the MAIN reason their selection is sooo good. He is a truly knowledgeable wine fanatic, and has amazing customer service skills. He will tell you all kinds of interesting background info on each winery and selection, and it's clear this is his life's passion. That intensity of passion comes through on the fantastically broad and eclectic selection of wines offered, at the best prices I have seen in town. Rick is also skilled at educating novice wine drinkers like me without making feel like an ignorant fool. Even when I ask about the resurgence of Moscato(as referenced in rap songs), he doesn't turn up his nose at this varietal-instead he finds something nice to say, and always has a great recommendation for each type of wine-even the overdone Pinot Noir and the super sweet Moscato. Rick MAKES this "store" what it is and MY personal favorite place to buy wines. Be sure to ask to be put on his mailing list, as they will run occasional 20% off specials and try to stock customers' requests and give you a heads up as to when the sale starts and ends. Note: I agree with other posters that the patrons of this HEB are rude in the parking lot-seems the more expensive the SUV, the more likely they are to cut you off or steal the spot you were patiently waiting for. I am not going to knock a star off my rating for this problem, as this is the behavior of the people who live here, not the behavior of the HEB staff and no matter what grocery chain occupies this space, as long as these over privileged Westlake snobs come here, you are going to have to put up with their sense of entitlement behind the wheel. Tip: I try to come early in the morning. Come after 3pm during the week at your own risk. read more

I wish all the H-E-Bs were like this one. The produce is fresh, there's lots of great ready-made meals, a sushi bar, a good wine selection, a large bulk section of dried fruits, grains and spices, a custom cheese counter, a great bakery, cooking demonstrations. Oh, my favorite: a great seafood counter with helpful staff (recommended garlic Elgin sausage for my paella--so right on!) There is also a great floral section and curbside delivery. I always find everything I'm looking for, plus some. It feels so clean and upscale in here. Just pleasant overall. read more

Tried to duck into HEB in lakeway on Bee Cave at 4:30, before rush hour. I picked out a basket full of stuff and got in line. The line was long and extremely slow. After a significant wait, I asked the courtesy desk if they would call another cashier. She said they didn't have one. I got back in line. Everyone in the line was talking about walking out. The person in front of me left so I again asked if they could open another register and mentioned that people were leaving. I was told "go ahead and leave, we'll put your stuff back up." Needless to say, I will not be going back to HEB. read more

So impressed with all HEB is doing to keep us all fed and watered during the Covid crisis. I've loved HEB for years for their good prices and great store brand foods, and I really LOVE them for all the philanthropy and public assistance they provide, both during and after disasters. But they have my ever lasting loyalty with how hard they are working to take care of Austin during Covid. They are paying their employees even more and taking good care of them, including changing hours so they can clean the store thoroughly at night. Five stars. read more

Very clean, well stocked store with helpful employees. I could not find any Indian foods like curry sauces which are in good supply in my neighborhood HEB. My store is bigger but not much so. Not sure why they don't have any at all, but maybe it's just the store size. read more

This HEB seems to have caught on to us raw feeders for our dogs! They take special orders. But now I no longer have to place special orders a week before pick up. They now stock turkey necks (for the big dogs), chicken necks (for the Chihuahua), chicken backs at only .80 per LB, organs below 1.00, and whole fish heads! I'm a happy dog Mamma here! read more

This is what people might call a Gucci HEB. Or a fancy HEB. Okay, maybe I'm the only one that might call it that. But seriously, this is one of my favorite places to go for grocery shopping. It's like a mini-Walmart, but better. Plus, they usually have so many samples going on that you really could eat an entire meal here for free. Yes, I know I have a problem with samples. And spending an insane amount of my time at grocery stores. I'm seeking help for both issues. (Aside... as of this writing, I am the Duke of both WFMs in Austin and at other grocery stores, so I do have something to show for my grocery obsession... H O L L A H, bee-yotches !!!!) ANYWAY, what's really nice about this HEB is they have the "Cafe On The Run," which is the prepped-food-to-go-thingy at Central Market. Y'all DID know that Central Market is owned by HEB, right? (I mean, I'm not spending all my time at grocery stores for nothing! I am learning stuff!) So, yes, this is a really nice HEB. Now here's something to ponder: Why is it that these types of grocery stores only open in affluent areas? I've been to some of the "trashy" grocery stores on the east side of town, and the difference is just so stark, night and day. It just makes me think that we as a society are saying that poor neighborhoods can't have nice things. It really makes me sad. And mad. But more sad. I used to be a teacher in a low-income area. My former students might have a better shot in everything in life if they were exposed to nicer things. Not to say that a Gucci HEB would solve the plight of the poverty-stricken. But if you walked into a nice, clean, organized store that had neat rows of fruits and vegetables (and a gazillion samples), wouldn't that just brighten your day? Am I alone in thinking this? I think I'll go to Randall's down the street and spend my hundreds of dollars each week on groceries. Bought organic peaches Tuesday, started rotting Wednesday, took them back Thursday AM when the store was not busy and was treated like dirt by "Samantha" the cashier manager. She's rude. Some of their employees are very competent but management should rethink who they put on the floor interacting with customers who ultimately pay their salaries. Very nice, clean HEB. I stopped here around lunchtime to pick up some things for the office. It was super easy to get in and out of here in a short amount of time. They had a pretty good selection--but not a whole lot of decaf coffee. Less one star for being out of sugar shaker canisters. read more

The best HEB in town! Service is always friendly and super helpful. They have a good selection of organic fruits and fresh flowers. And yes, they have plastic bags - which is helpful as I frequently forget to bring my reusables. Right up front next to the deli, there are surprisingly inexpensive salads (grilled chicken, avocado, egg) ready for a quick meal or dinner side. Ack! The al pastor has been discontinued due to lack of sales. HEB still rocks though - when my husband asked just where in the Sam Hill the al pastor was, the guy at the meat counter said he would talk to his manager and see if they couldn't start stocking it again. Now that's servicio! read more

I like my food fresh and therefore I visit my local HEB every day, sometimes more, and I love it. My excitement is similar to other Yelpers - great food selection on par with Central Market, excellent booze, interesting cheese, samples as well. I sometimes go just to hang out. read more
