This has to be the smallest HEB in Texas. I assume this location has been here for a long time. We do not live here and popped in for some holiday grocery shopping while in the area. This store is very hard to navigate because it's so small and a lot is crammed in a small space. There's just enough room for two carts in each isle. This is also laid out a bit different than your normal HEB. The butter, yogurt, etc Is actually down an isle and separate from the dairy section. It was a bit hard to find everything. I imagine this is a very convenient location for college students. The parking lot is also small and I imagine hard to find a spot when it's busy. In typical HEB fashion, the staff was kind. Just know when coming here it's going to be limited on selection and hard to navigate especially on busy days. read more

This mini-B borders the older historical streets in SM and the campus, so you'll likely be hanging with students or sr citizens while you are here. Everyone wants them to carry more stuff but I think they cram an incredible amount in here for the store size including pharmacy and deli. They save me a trip across town, and while parking is pinched at times this has FIVE entrances/exits for your commute compared to the carousel of traffic misery@ the big B. Having been here since the late nineties and therefore a few floods, I want to say HEB is also a great community member. I find their name on sponsorship lists for many local fundraisers year-round and they have always been generous in emergency and recovery efforts for our town. They're more locally invested than Target or WalMart (I *am* glad there are alternatives) and that means something to me. This satellite makes my life better so I am a fan. read more

Y'all. I love this H‑E‑B for so many reasons but there is one employee who just makes it a bad experience every single time. She usually does samples but when she's on check out I try to avoid her. She's slow. Throws my groceries and after saying I had stuff in the bottom said "my coupon didn't work with anything" until I reminded her they were on the bottom. She was rude and short with me. As far as HEB stores go, this one doesn't quite meet my expectations. It's tiny and cramped, and carries only the bare basics. Not even that, if you're looking for a good supply of organics or much at all from the Central Market line, or a Healthy Living aisle. Or doggie poop bags, which San Marcos is in dire need of, apparently. Watch where you step. It's more like a convenience store with reasonable prices and a basic produce section and bakery. It's within walking distance of campus, so it's heavily frequented by students and other locals. The bathrooms look rarely cleaned, if ever. The pharmacy is helpful and efficient, so that's a plus. It's HEB, so I'm happy it's there, but they could definitely step up their game a bit. FYI, the parking lot seems to have a resident tow truck driver installed, so don't even think of parking there if you're planning to head elsewhere. You will be towed instantly. read more

I went through their car wash, when I arrived home passer of my trim was missing, I honestly felt like it was super brutal and it was supposed to be a soft touch but I kind of just let it go and then when I get home like I said part of my trim was missing so I reached out to their customer service and all they did was say they looked for but didn't find it and didn't offer to help me out or nothing. I love my car and it's a 2006 Mini so it's challenging to find parts for. So now I'm super annoyed that they didn't even offer to assist me in to me in paying for a new trim piece. I always thought ATB was more customer service oriented maybe I need to rethink that. read more

L'il B, I've known you since you were a Safeway "Marina-Style" store and sat on the lot in a different orientation, fronting Hopkins rather than Comanche (as you do now). Your parking lot sucks. But you're a quick in-and-out with all of the familiar brands at great prices. And you're the only grocery left without having to cross the tracks. That alone is worth an extra star. My sisters car was blocked in by a semi doing deliveries for this HEB. The driver literally parked the semi in front of the entrance to get in completely blocking her car in. I went inside to get someone to help me find the driver so they could back the semi up just a little bit so we could get out. The lady that helped me I believe her name was Val was extremely unhelpful and rude. She just kept repeating well it looks to me like she can get out just fine but if you want to wait it'll be a while. Like what??? Just grab the driver so we can leave for the love of god. I have a love/hate relationship with the lil' B. I love it because it's close & convenient, the prices are fair and they do cash back. I hate it because it's small and cluttered. The selection is lacking and I feel like it's always pretty packed. Like all H-E-B's they have the freshness guarantee, which means if you find anything that's out of date you can bring that and the same fresh item and you get to keep it for free. This works out well at the little H-E-B because it is mostly frequented by college students with a limited budget. This translates into a surplus of higher priced items, that are outdated, that can be found if you look hard enough. I can usually find an item or two if I look hard enough... All and all, not a bad location. I wish they had more stuff but their space is limited. I'd head to big H-E-B if you have the time but if you don't, its little brother down the way will surely get you squared away! Corny but true! read more

This is the smaller of two H-E-B stores in San Marcos. The much smaller. But unlike the larger store located near I-35, this one is central, and we live within walking distance, so we really don't want it going anywhere. Did I mention it's smaller? The aisles are kinda narrow, and so is the product selection. That's all cuz it's smaller, see? Even H-E-B, Texas grocery juggernaut that it is, can't defy the laws of physics. Still, the H-E-Buddies here are friendly and they sell some excellent store brand items, including Creamy Creations ice cream and some pretty fine frozen pizzas. There's a bakery, but no real deli to speak of. And a tiny little pharmacy in the far corner that you must negotiate with caution, lest you mow over a local senior waiting on her meds. This H-E-B does sell plenty o' beer thanks to its close proximity to the Texas State campus. On weekends, the store gets way too crowded and parking can be tight, particularly on Sundays when the next-door church's tiny lot overflows into H-E-B's tiny lot. We're starting to worry that this store is slowly turning into a glorified convenience store. That's probably unfair. Other than a deli, it's got everything a regular H-E-B has, just in a more pint-sized format. Depending on what you want from a grocery store, this place could fulfill all your needs. For more variety, the "Big H-E-B," which is what we cleverly call the big H-E-B, offers a whole lot more. read more

Close to campus, open late, and a substantial beer selection make this HEB a great place to stop in and grab supplies for dinner or a six pack before heading to the river. The "store" part of this HEB carries all sorts of medication, home products, and a ton of river rat supplies that include all the necessary equipment to brave the mighty waters of the San Marcos River. Though it is missing the grandiose charm that its big brother maintains with a larger bakery, floral selection, and in house sushi station this little "River Embassy" holds its own on. I like to stop in every so often just to see what new things appear on the shelfs, and being right down the street from TxState I can "check in" between classes. read more

DO NOT trust HEB gasoline pumps. I recently made the mistake of getting a few gallons just because I was in a hurry. The credit card processing failed the first time with a "bad card read". I reinserted the card, and it read correctly. I pumped exactly $15.39 in gas. The following day there were not one, but two, temporary authorizations for $100 each on my credit card. The bank (USAA) said accurately that the vendor (HEB) had levied the authorizations. Dealing with HEB was a long drawn out process of being transferred around repeatedly to end with a snarky mid-level acctg clerk who told me falsely that the bank had issued the authorizations. After hours attempts, I finally spoke to a HEB associate who confirmed my knowledge. This facts are supported by irrefutable evidence. HOWEVER, HEB is still holding a $100 authorization on my account for THEIR "bad card read" on THEIR equipment on THEIR pumps after several days of having been informed of the problem. Tomorrow I am reporting them to every relevant state and federal agency and several consumer watch groups. I have been skimmed in the past by other gas stations. This has lowered my opinion of HEB dramatically. read more

Li'l made me want to cry as I walked down the oppressively narrow aisles of the store for my very first grocery run after moving to San Marcos. I might have squeezed out a tear or two in on of the deserted aisles there. I'll never tell. Coming from Houston, where both Central Market and Whole Foods were less than fifteen minutes away (Trader Joe's hadn't opened there yet), it was a depressing sight to me. Gone was the thrill of adventure that rushed over me when I stepped foot in a grocery store. Gone were the days of ordering a whole fish at the seafood counter. Is there even a seafood counter here??? I wouldn't know. I got the bare essentials, and I mean BARE, and I fled the scene and didn't look back. Later on, I felt a bit silly when I discovered Big just down the street. Now, that's more to my liking. I can breathe again! I hear the only reason Li'l is still in business is because of the copious amounts of alcohol they sell, enabling youngsters at the university to get drunk. After all, it is walking distance to the dorms at Texas State. Just be ready to hike up that hill with your bags of food on your way back from Li'l. I do like to visit there if I need to make a quick run for a simple, I mean SIMPLE, item. Li'l is more like an overgrown convenience store. read more

This HEB is referred by many as the "small HEB" and it holds merit. Compared to the HEB that is closer to i35, this one is smaller in size. Items are limited and aisles within the store are very small. The parking lot is very small and is usually full most of the time. If you plan to stock on groceries for the week, I highly recommend going to the other HEB in town. This HEB is perfect for a quick grab of items. Staff throughout the store are quiet and at times this can be seen as unfriendly. I will continue to visit this location for quick grocery shopping but will visit the "Big HEB" for the weekly groceries. I would recommend you do the same! read more

Little HEB never fails to amaze me with their selection. It's small, but mighty. The shelves and aisles are crammed with the usual stuff, and there's a decent selection of organic and unusual food as well. Big HEB has pretty much everything, but Little isn't far behind, which is impressive considering how small it is. I've been to small town grocery stores that didn't have half of what Little carries, and there's the added bonus of possibly running into friends and neighbors and having a nice chat. Yeah, it'd be really nice to have a Central Market or a Trader Joe's, but until then Little more than suffices for day to day groceries and the odd specialty item. read more
