This H-E-B is certainly better than no H-E-B. I've only recently discovered the glory of this chain grocery store in the past year. This Odessa, TX, location is conveniently located on 42nd Street. It is always crowded. The usual cons were experienced on Good Friday 2024: - limited baskets (grabbed one from parking lot) - crowded aisles - boxes and crates in the middle of the produce section (with no employees in sight) which created several bottlenecks - checkout lines moved slow when I was there at around 5:15PM - people can't park between the parking lot lines - sloth-like pedestrians who refuse to look at drivers... why y'all do that? - I hate how absurdly fast most Texans drive, then how stupidly slow others drive especially when exiting on the Grandview Ave side. Our shopping prices: - Morton & Bassett dried sage ($6.58) - Salt lick chicken seasoning ($3.98) - HCF turkey stuffing mix ($.93) - Stovetop chicken stuffing mix ($2.48) - Krusteaz natural cornbread mix ($2.14) - HEB natural boneless chicken breasts ($10) - Reddy 7-lb bag of ice ($2) - yellow onion ($1.38 per pound) - celery ($1.28) - Swanson natural chicken broth ($2.52) Pros: + mostly friendly customers + fast cashier, but why two grocery baggers? I went to H-E-B today to pick up a curbside order and they were so crazy busy there were no open curbside spots so I parked on the side of the building. Xavier came over and got the name on my order so he could bring it out to me. Heaven help you if you go in here. It's an absolute zoo. They have a huge variety of items but there is no rhyme or reason as to where anything is. Example: The paper towels are nowhere near the aisle that has the toilet paper and the paper plates. The paper towels are in a different part of the store. It's planned that you have to walk all over the store to find what's on your shopping list. And good luck finding breakfast foods. The frozen Jimmy Dean breakfasts are there but we never found the HEB brand of frozen breakfast biscuit sandwiches. No telling where they kept them. AND this parking lot is designed with such narrow parking places that you can barely get in and out of your car, forget getting near the side door with your shopping cart. It's inconvenient beyond words. These aggravations along with the noise and the crowds makes it just not worth it. This is a hell hole of a grocery store. read more

Living in New Mexico, I miss H-E-B! These grocery stores always have something special in them and this trip was no exception. We found a really cool cutting board - ON SALE! - that fits over the entire sink and has a colander built in for washing the veggies or whatever else you might be cutting. It was a great deal for the apartment! I also found a great case for my daily pills that makes life both simple AND more fun! Plus the pharmacy was able to transfer my boyfriend's prescription that was backordered at CVS to their location and fill it within an hour. Fantastic service! read more

Night manager Mr Aron w wouldn't not give me his last name said he was the only manager there at 11 PM. I forgot three sacks of groceries there including some ribeye steaks. I called store he said the items were there. I described him. He told me he told me they were closing in 10 minutes. I told him I would try to make it, but I was more like 15 minutes away. He told me it was OK for me to park. Call him and he would send somebody out to the car I arrived right at 11 there was still people checking out people walking out but they were not allowing anybody in. I called him and he told me I could not have my grocery bags because he had to pull the camera footage to verify that it was me that left them behind. I told him I had a receipt. I told him he had verified him, and I had described the items he told me that was the policy making a senior citizen drive across town for his dinner groceries it's not good customer service. read more

I bought 2 Nestle Carnation Famous Fudge to make for Christmas 2022. Both kits were no good. Why? Because they expired June 2022. I don't go through the store and check expiration dates on everything I buy (usually eggs and milk is what I check) Otherwise I trust HEB that I am not buying something that has been expired for 6 months. HEB is my go-to grocery store here in Texas as I travel around the State for work so they are usually great! This one - well, we've been in the area for 3 weeks and I've bought groceries 3 times and each time I've had to throw something out because it's bad. This week I've thrown out grapes, cara cara oranges, zucchini and green onions so far. When something is bad or taste funny, it's just scary! I will not be going to this HEB ever again. read more

this store sucks. the baggers tell customers to go F themselves and throw stuff into the bags and the vehicles. I had 2 dozen eggs broken because the bagger didn't care. when k went in to complain the so called STORE DIRECTOR or whatever her ego thinks she is was just as rude and uncaring. she just said oh well and walked away from my husband and I. I will be filing a complaint with their corporate offices about how sloppy this store is ran. the baggers and cashiers sneeze and cough all over your items. they have a woman who works doing the food demos that stinks like pee and poo poo and nothing is done about any of it. no matter how much you complain to the store managers. so I guess corporate needs to know the whole story and not just what the store wants them to know about things. I do not recommend this HEB due to the workers. Some of the workers are awesome, the food is great, everything is great. I had to bag my own groceries while other employees just stood there and laughed at my pants, pointing and giggling. I was bagging at the end then she put some stuff in the bag behind the register and she forgot to give me my bag and left it on the metal rack thing. I spent about $100 for "4" bags. Well now 3. I went back over there and she said she must've gave the bag to the girl behind me. And I wanted a refund and then I never got it and they kept arguing back and fourth with me. I'm gonna start to shop at Walmart instead. I haven't ever had a problem with United supermarket, market street, Walmart, Sam club, or any other stores. read more

The aura and ambience was absolutely delightful. When I walk in the store, I feel at peace with my inner being. Immediately I was greeted by an attractive young latina who said "hi, welcome to HEB!" She was well maintained and probably should've been working in the bakery section with that cake of hers. Way better than the associates at the local Walmart. Here everything truly is better. Although I couldn't get her snap, I do plan on returning and rizzing her up. I absolutely love H E B! They have the best meat and produce and seafood!! There is a ton of selections in each store. This one is always crazy busy, but all lanes were open while we were there. They sell a lot of local and Texas type ingredients. They also have very nice flowers, baked goods, books, and cards! read more

I always buy meat for the BBQ here for their quality steaks, sausage and chicken, freshest fruit and vegetables around and an array of HEB brand products to choose from, it makes H-E-B my go to place for all household and grocery needs. This store offers a deli, bakery, drive thru pharmacy, flora, sushi, tortilla and 1st Convenience Bank all in one building. Store Hours 6am-1am everyday except major during holidays. Heads up, weekends, weekdays after 4pm are very busy, hard to find quick parking, non peak hours are often after 9pm. Check out is usually fast even on busy days. read more

The stickers are always out in full force & never get out of the way when I am shopping. They always have boxes blocking the aisle. Why don't they hire overnight stockers so customers can get in & out without dodging stockers? At 9:00 AM 2 lanes open & all the way down the aisle. WORST H-E-B I've ever been to. Shelves were not well stocked. Most products were missing and there was possibly 1-2 staff on the floor. Floors were dirty. Staff was not readily available and the patrons were just.....not typical. From not wearing shoes to just plain rude. For being as busy as it was I was surprised. Having gone to HEB mostly in Midland, I decided to stop by here one day when I happened to be in Odessa. This place felt like I just entered a third world country. The floors and shelves were markedly dirtier than the HEBs in Midland and the entire section of health foods including Kombuchas was missing. This HEB has been remodeled but I really preferred it prior to the remodel. They have reduced the amount of products in certain departments like the deli and the salad dressings and it seems like the coffees too. Products which I had bought for years there are not carried any more. They did expand but I am not sure what really has been added. Also I preferred the look and organization of the store before the remodel. It is often very crowded...we are now preferring to go to the Midland HEB as the selection and layout of that store is so much better than the Odessa location. (although the Midland location can be very crowded too). It is certainly not a bad store though...prices are good and quality of products is good. As far as grocery stores go, this has been my best experience at HEB: employees are always courteous and attentive, the in-store coupons are fairly unique, and I have gotten some decent deals on them. Their prices are fairly competitive with Wal-Mart, so I try to come here as often as I can, if only to avoid going into Wal-Mart. Overall, I have had good experiences at this store and will definitely keep shopping here in the future. read more

ATTENTION all handicapped people . Do not go to this store thinking you can shop from an electric cart! I had an accident a couple of months ago and being unable to walk any distance I thought no problem I'll use a electric cart ! Out of 6 tries I have been successful only once to find a cart that had enough charge in it to be successful! Either none have a charge or it dies on me less than half way through the store ! Store employees try to turn and avoid you when they die ! I suspect the carts are deficient to the task or the batteries are worn out . Or maybe just not enough carts to get the job done ! The store is so old, they really need to close it down and build a new one. It's over stuffed with inventory stuff in the middle of the aisles. The ceiling ventilation is caked with dirt and dust. They offer over size large carts, but the exit door is so slim you can't even get 2 carts through them at the same time. The parking lot setup is a nightmare. How this store has any good reviews, is beyond me. This is truly a horrid place to shop. When we went, there were no carts, and when we finally got one, it was filthy, smashed (where you would put a kid in the seat) and had broken rungs that would cut you if not careful. Parking is terrible, produce was old, the lighting is poor-just gross. Walmart is a step up from this HEB, and I can't stand Walmart. So I just literally bought some ferrero rocher chocolates from here. I loveee these chocolates,but when I put one in my mouth it tasted funny. Then I realized they were expired. Went to the grocery store as usual today. Have never been more disappointed at HEB in my entire shopping history with this store. The store is extremely overcrowded which may or may not be the store's fault however they could speed things up with faster checkers and more lines open. The shelves were not stocked very well at all and pressing has gotten out of hand in this store. The meat department was disgusting not a single item was brought to take home today. Processing of their bacon and other breakfast items along with their meat department has gotten so out of hand you are cheaper and better off to go to a Quality Meat Market or to Albertsons Market store. read more

Comparing to Walmart, HEB does have better service, better produces and meats selection, but just as busy as Walmart. With that being said, it doesn't have very good practicing or ethical practice in pricing. BEWARE of their items price! It will display a price and when you ring up it another price. My friends and I personally had bad experiences with it. For instance, I like their jumbo shrimps there and often buy a couple bags a week. Last month I went to grab three bags where it's label for $16.99 etc and when I went to ring up it show $ 17.97. Ok I know it just a $1 to some of you, but to me it not about the money but it bad business practice and false advertising. So I told the girl that and she keeping on insisting that what the register say and I must be the one that mistaken. Being in a hurry and feeling frustrate I just told her I don't want it and put it back. I told my mom about it and the next day she went and bought the same shrimp. And the same things happen to her. Of course she complained and the lady at the register adjust the price for her. Forward to a month later today, she got the same shrimp again and the same thing happen again. She came home frustrate and angry that they didn't bother to fix this problem a month ago. So I call HEB manager, she toss me to their director Dave. I told him what happen and how upset I am with their pricing. I told him that it been a months and I am sure they had many complains regarding this, yet they fail to fix the problem. I also them them that not only is this false advertising, but unethical business practice! He then snap at me in an annoy tone "ok, you made your point! I will check on this." No apologies, no remorse, yet it seem that he was blaming me for their mistake! I am sure to him I am just another tiny customer that complaint doesn't matter. I too a business owner, all my friends and family shop there. I know that if you upset one customer, you're not upsetting just that one, but their friends, family and so on. I am surprise Dave didn't get this part in his training! I will personally boycott this place and go to Albertsons instead, where paying $1 more is not a problem, at least they're honest with it! It's a place for you to get what you need. You can get a good selection of stuff for you and the family. The fruit selection is really exotic, but their cuts of meat could be better. The sushi is alright ( San Antonio roll is pretty good). It is one of the better stores in Odessa, but going there is a nightmare sometimes. There are so many people and not enough checkers. HEB is great, especially their pharmacy. The techs and pharmacists are all quite nice and handle the busy pace quite well. I have never had an issue with my Rx or it being out of stock; unlike the Walgreens just across Grandview. Would definitely recommend! read more

While they are in the midst of a remodel/expansion, they are still the busiest grocery story in town . They are well stocked and have the best produce in town that I know of , and generally the staff is very courteous and helpful. read more

Way better than Wal-Mart! Cleaner and better stocked.The cashier are way more helpful and polite. There are always registers open and none of the self check out, which are a pain in the butt. There are some great sales but you need to look for them. Some items might be cheaper at other stores but overall I come here as much as I can. The store is clean and so are the restrooms. The lines are usually short and they go quickly. Parking and driving are constantly a hassle. read more
